LEGACY (The Italian Mafia Boss's Forbidden Baby)
Chapter 1
Night draped the Italian coast in a golden, silent glow. The massive mansion glowing on the hilltops looked like something out of an old film. Marble fountains reflected the lights scattered across the immaculate gardens while classical music drifted softly through the open corridors of the estate.
Luxury cars climbed the main driveway in a slow procession. Black SUVs. Armored sedans. Expensive engines rumbled low before they parked in front of the grand staircase. Armed men stepped out first. Dark suits. Watchful eyes. Hands a little too close to their jackets.
Because this wasn’t merely an engagement dinner. It was a political arrangement dressed up as a celebration.
“Vincenzo.” An older man approached, smiling as he shook his hand. “You finally made it.”
“I was handling a personal matter,” he answered evenly, hiding the truth with ease.
Everyone there knew Vincenzo would never set foot at an event like this without checking every security route first.
He crossed the vast ballroom under discreet glances. Some respectful. Others openly wary. Women watched. Men stepped out of his path. His presence shifted the atmosphere without effort.
The engaged couple was greeting guests near the center of the main hall. The bride smiled when she saw him.
“You actually came!”
Vincenzo smiled. “Thank Francesca Salvatore. She practically forced me.”
She laughed before giving him a quick hug.
Vincenzo greeted the groom next, then moved away toward a quieter section of the room.
Part of the Salvatore family was already there.
His brothers stood around a table heavy with expensive drinks while their mother sat elegantly, observing everything in silence.
“We figured you’d only show up at the end of the party,” Mateo, the youngest brother, remarked.
Lorenzo, the middle brother, laughed. “What a shame, little brother.”
The two of them chuckled, ribbing the oldest.
“I seriously considered it.”
Their mother only smiled discreetly.
“Darling… You came. How wonderful. Who knows—maybe you’ll find your future wife tonight as well? There are many beautiful young women here.”
Elegant. Impeccable. Loving as always.
“Your niece looks happy,” Vincenzo commented, changing the subject as he watched the golden chandeliers. “It’s only an engagement dinner and it already looks like she’s married.”
“You know the women in our family, don’t you, little brother? They can’t see money without wanting to spend it,” Lorenzo answered, lifting a glass of whisky. “I feel sorry for that weird guy standing next to her. Look at his face… He’s already realizing his peace has an expiration date.”
All the brothers laughed under their breath.
“That’s enough, Lorenzo… Or I’ll make sure you get married before your brother does. Is that what you want?”
Vincenzo’s brother put on a mock expression of pure shock for their mother.
“You would do that…? Good Lord, so much cruelty in that heart. We’re your sons, woman—have a little mercy on our souls.”
Francesca turned her face for a moment, holding back a laugh, but kept her composure. Vincenzo smiled faintly and stayed silent.
Classical music. Outrageously expensive dresses. Jewels glittering under the lights. Fake laughter. Deals being struck behind polite smiles. The same theater as always.
Then his eyes stopped. Automatically.
Across the room, a woman had just walked in. She arrived alone. No security. No entourage. Without deliberately drawing attention. And precisely because of that, she did.
The light-colored dress slid smoothly over her body as she crossed the main entrance with a hint of hesitation.
Elegant, delicate, and sophisticated enough for the setting…
yet simple next to the exaggerated luxury surrounding her.
Her hair was swept into a soft updo, a few strands escaping around her face.
She took everything in with caution. Almost shy.
Like someone who clearly didn’t belong in this world.
A few guests exchanged discreet looks, trying to figure out who she was. Which family she came from. Why she was here.
Vincenzo kept staring. Without realizing it. Without even blinking.
His gaze traveled slowly along the line of her neck, the subtle neckline of the dress, the way the fabric moved with each hesitant step. Something inside him tightened—a sharp curiosity, almost painful.
“Wow. Who is she?” Lorenzo asked when he noticed his brother’s interest.
Vincenzo didn’t answer. For the first time that night, something finally felt real.

Sara tried to keep her nerves in check as she slowly climbed the steps of the main entrance. The dress had made her look stunning—her friend’s doing. The same friend who had insisted she borrow it.
“You’re not showing up at that place in just any dress.”
Now, staring at the enormous mansion lit up like a palace, Sara understood perfectly why. Her heels clicked softly against the marble as she entered the main hall and immediately felt dozens of discreet eyes turn toward her. She almost regretted coming.
Until she spotted her friend in the middle of the crowd.
“Sara!” The bride smiled as she hugged her quickly. “You made it…”
Sara smiled, and the smile only made her look more beautiful, more striking. Everyone who knew her always said her smile was incredible.
“I told you I’d come.”
“You look so gorgeous!! Oh my God!! It’s like that dress was made for you.”
Sara laughed self-consciously.
“I feel like an alien in here.”
Her friend laughed under her breath.
“Relax, girl. Just talk to people, enjoy the party… who knows, maybe someone important will take an interest in your work. Or even in you. That wouldn’t be hard.”
Her friend teased and Sara smiled fondly.
As a beginner model, she knew exactly what that meant: influence, sponsorship, connections.
She simply nodded as she took a glass of champagne offered by a waiter.
The two of them walked through the hall talking until her friend was pulled away by other guests.
And that was the moment Sara felt it again. The sensation of being watched.
She lifted her eyes.
And met Vincenzo’s gaze fixed directly on her from across the room.
He was incredibly attractive. But that wasn’t the only thing holding her attention. It was his presence. Cold. Controlled. Dangerous. And at the same time, something in her answered that darkness—as if her body recognized a threat her mind still didn’t understand.
Suddenly he began walking toward her. To Sara it felt like he was moving in slow motion. She couldn’t understand why she couldn’t look away from the man. Each of his steps seemed to shrink the space between them, and the air around her grew denser.
When he stopped in front of her, he stood silent for a few seconds before speaking. His dark eyes traveled slowly over her face, lingering on her parted lips, before finding hers again.
“Forgive me, miss… but I couldn’t help looking at you from across the room.” His deep, low, calm voice seemed to wrap around Sara like an invisible touch. “This place seems to fade in the presence of your beauty.”
Sara felt heat rise up her neck. She tried to hide her nervousness, but the way he looked at her—as if he were memorizing every detail—made it impossible.
“Thank you… I should say this is my first time somewhere like this, so…”
A discreet, almost dangerous smile appeared on his lips.
“Indeed… You seem to have come from somewhere far purer than this.”
Sara gave a shy smile, her gaze unable to hold his for long. Her heart was beating far too hard.
“What’s your name?” she asked, her voice quieter than she intended.
His eyes never left her for a second.
“I apologize. My name is Vincenzo. Vincenzo Salvatore.” He tilted his head slightly, as if offering her something more intimate than just a name. “May I know yours?”
“Your name sounds like that of a legendary prince,” she replied, trying to disguise the tremor in her voice.
He liked what he heard. She was enchanting. Far too pure for his world. And exactly because of that, he wanted to stain her a little with his presence.
“Perhaps I am…” he murmured, his voice carrying something that made Sara grip the glass tighter in her hand.
Vincenzo took in every detail: her shy manner, the way she held the glass, her attentive eyes studying everything around her as if trying to learn the rules of a game she had never been taught.
He stepped closer—just enough for her to feel the heat radiating from his body, the expensive woody cologne mixed with something more raw, more masculine.
She talked with him for a few minutes, trying to ignore the fact that the man intimidated her… and at the same time attracted her in a way that frightened her. Every word of his seemed to carry a different weight. Every pause, a silent invitation.
But before she could learn more about him, her friend appeared.
“Sara… come with me. I want to introduce you to a few people.”
Sara cast one last farewell glance at Vincenzo before following her friend again through the hall.
He kept watching. The entire time. Tracking every place she went.
Every person she spoke to. Every smile. And when she disappeared in the direction of the corridors, he felt something dangerous settle in his chest: Sara…
The name fixed itself in his mind and would not disappear anytime soon.

Minutes later, Sara left the restroom trying to find her friend again. But the hall seemed even fuller now. The music louder. The people more overwhelming. She sighed quietly before stepping away from the crowd in search of somewhere quieter to catch her breath.
Suddenly she found herself entering a dark, empty corridor. Far too silent.
She slowed her steps, thinking she was lost, when she heard voices at the end of the hallway that opened onto a garden.
A man was shoved violently against the wall a few meters ahead. The sound of the impact echoed down the corridor. Sara froze.
“I swear I’ll fix this…” the injured man tried to say.
Another punch slammed into his stomach with force. The man immediately spat blood. Sara clamped a hand over her mouth in shock. Another blow, and another. Violent. Brutal. Cruel.
She could hear the man’s breathing failing, and the sound was agonizing and desperate. He practically collapsed to the floor while the attacker held him by the shirt.
Panic shot through her entire body. She needed to get out of there. Now.
Sara spun around quickly to run… and crashed straight into someone.
A firm, strong body caught her and pulled her into a dark corner, wrapping her in a protective embrace. She choked back a scream as she looked up.
Her heart raced instantly.
“Easy,” he held her arms gently before she could stumble. “Breathe.”
She was pale. Frightened. Trembling.
But when she recognized the face, something inside her calmed and, at the same time, ignited.
“Vincenzo?”
His dark eyes flicked quickly down the corridor behind her before returning to her terrified face.
He kept her pressed against his body, one large, warm hand splayed across her back, fingers brushing lightly against the nape of her neck.
The other arm circled her waist, firm, protective… and possessive.
His scent enveloped her completely—wood, spices, and something darker that made her stomach flip. The heat of his body seared through the thin fabric of her dress, and Sara realized, with a mix of fear and excitement, that she was completely flush against his broad, solid chest.
“Breathe, amore,” he murmured near her ear, his voice low and rough, almost a soft growl. The warm breath touched her skin and she felt a shiver run down her spine. “You’re safe.”
Sara tried to obey, but her heart was pounding so hard she was certain he could feel it.
His eyes dropped to her mouth for a second—just one second—before finding hers again.
Even with danger only a few meters away, his gaze was intense, almost hungry.
As if, in that moment, the entire world had narrowed down to her.
“I… I saw… a man being beaten brutally,” she tried to speak, her voice faltering.
“I know,” he answered quietly, his thumb tracing a slow, accidental stroke along the curve of her waist. “Don’t look. Just stay here with me.”
Sara obeyed. Because despite everything, in that dangerous, warm embrace, she had never felt so protected… in the arms of a complete stranger.
