Liz

Six Months Later…

“Hi, Liz.”

I look up, surprised to see Misty Jacobs standing there.

“Hey, Misty.”

It’s the annual Fall Festival that Lilly Leaf Falls puts on every year. I wasn’t too keen on coming, but Jack suggested it may be a good idea to try to earn some good faith with people.

Turns out that most in town have gotten over their beef with me. Me buying the inn and keeping it ‘in-house’ seems to have garnered me a lot of favor with everyone. People are being—dare I say—nice to me.

Even Misty.

I didn’t think she would ever come around since she was trying to fuck Jack for so long.

“How are renovations at the inn coming along?” She asks.

“Pretty good,” I say. “A little slower than I’d like, but Jack and I have been doing some of the work ourselves whenever we can, which seems to help.”

“I can’t wait to see it when it’s done.”

“Yeah,” I smile. “I plan on having a grand re-opening and inviting everyone in town. Should be great when it’s finished.”

“I just wanted to come over and apologize,” she blurts. “I don’t think I’ve been exactly fair to you since you got back in town.”

“It’s okay,” I tell her. “I wasn’t exactly a peach to you either. It’s all behind us.”

She gives a small nod and looks over toward Jack, who is twirling around the makeshift dance floor with Tali.

“He’s something special,” she says.

“Yeah, he is,” I agree.

“I know Jack and I had a thing, but I see how much he’s in love with you. You two make a good couple.”

“Thanks,” I say before she hears someone else calling her name and excuses herself.

I take a moment to watch Jack. He is more than I ever could have dreamed of in a man. He holds Tali in his arms and whisks her around like they are performing for a crowd. The little girl throws her head back and giggles so loud I can hear it all the way over here.

How the hell did I get so lucky?

I’ve never believed much in fate or the whole one door closes so another one can open thing, but I don’t know how else to explain what has happened with me and Jack.

We’ve been living together for close to six months now, and it’s going better than I ever could have hoped. I spend all day at the inn while he works at the shop. Sometimes, we spend our evenings doing renovations at the inn, but most nights, we just end up naked and in each other’s arms.

I can’t seem to get enough of him.

Luckily, the feeling seems to be mutual.

When the song is over, he makes his way over to me and holds out his hand. “It’s your turn, princess.”

He pulls me onto the floor, and we start to sway.

I say. “That little girl is crazy about you.”

“Well, who wouldn’t be? I’m a delight.” He grins.

“She’s super cute. We should have one of those one day.”

He stops moving and looks at me. “You want to have a baby?”

“Well, not now. But yeah. At some point, I think I’d like to have a baby with you. Maybe we could just stop with the condoms, and see what happens.”

He leans down to kiss me. “Man, I hope they get your crazy curly hair.”

“That makes one of us,” I mumble.

He looks around to make sure no one is watching us before he sneaks in a quick grab of my ass. “You know, we may need to get in some practice if we are going to be trying for a baby soon.”

“Agreed.”

“In fact, maybe we should get out of here right now and get a jump on it.”

I nod. “I couldn’t agree more.”

He looks at me. “Really?”

“What the hell, Paul Bunyan. Let’s get out of here and go to pound town.”

The end…for now.
