Chapter 17 #2
He kissed my neck and continued. “I like the way we just fell into this family dynamic. It’s like Jayceon is biologically yours. That means so much to me, baby. Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me. I have to admit, though, had Jayceon been bad, it would have been a lot harder.”
He tickled me, and I screamed, causing Jayceon to pay attention to us.
When he saw Asad tickling me, he joined in.
Asad thought he was slick though. He was copping free feels as he did so, teasing my nipples and gripping my ass.
“Stoooop!” I yelled, then screamed with laughter. “Y’all gon’ make me pee on myself!”
They both stopped and laughed at me as I ran to the bathroom.
I smiled so big until I closed the door.
My smile faded somewhat as I thought about the phone call I got from SS today.
While he wasn’t as noticeably bothered as the twins and Uncle Storm were, he was trying his best to deal with Maui “throwing her life away” over some nigga.
He had me crying over the phone while he ranted about blowing shit up, and I was scared for him.
PJ had called him and let him know that Maui was at Mr. Legend’s house, because shit had gotten hot around Mythic.
From what he said, Mythic and the guy he was running drugs for got into it, because he didn’t get his normal re-up.
Plus, he hadn’t paid for the product the police confiscated when he got arrested.
Maui was right. He was trying to leave that life behind, but the process of that could very well have her in danger. I just wished Mythic could push her away until that shit was done. If she felt strongly enough to go through this with him, then she would have waited for him as well.
I knew if SS got involved in that shit, he was going to get hurt.
SS wasn’t a punk by far, but PJ didn’t want to be in the middle, and Ace was still on probation.
One mess up, and he would get locked up for the duration of it.
That would leave SS trying to fight them alone.
My brothers were contemplating helping him, he said, but there was no way I would allow that.
I would be sure to tell Daddy and Uncle Kenny, just in case King and Kane were contemplating joining him too.
Ryder J wanted no parts of it either, because that was his cousin on his dad’s side.
Uncle Ryder and Uncle Philly were first cousins to Mr. Legend.
So none of them wanted to be in the middle of that shit either.
Mr. Legend was like family too. If SS did that stupid shit, it would cause animosity to form between a super tight bond.
Bali and Carter legend would definitely have issues.
If they had issues, it would affect Noni and Red Squared.
It was just way too much chaos that would come from that shit.
My entire lunch break had involved me trying to talk SS off the ledge.
We were already struggling, trying to get used to Maui not being here.
If those niggas killed SS, there would be another war in Nome.
I hoped Uncle Storm could talk some sense into him.
I tried calling Maui to see what was going on and if she was okay, but she wouldn’t answer.
If she was staying with Mr. Legend and Mrs. Harper, then I knew things had gotten bad.
When I came out of the bathroom, Asad and Jayceon were waiting for me with huge smiles on their faces. Asad’s faded when he saw the playfulness I once had was long gone.
“Jay, why don’t you go play in your room. I’ll be up there in just a little bit. I need to talk to Mommy, okay?”
“Okay!”
He took off for the steps and Asad turned to me and pulled me to him. “What’s wrong, baby?”
“I had too much time to myself in the bathroom and got in my head about shit.”
“Maui? I heard she’s staying with Uncle Legend. Carter called me.”
“Yeah and no. SS called me. He’s a loose cannon, and I’m afraid he’s gonna get killed. He’s trying to go out there and confront Mythic again.”
Asad’s eyes widened. “Shit. That nigga keeps a razor blade in his mouth when he on the streets. SS killed someone, but Mythic has killed with his hands. That nigga is dangerous. While he tries to keep the peace in the family, he ain’t gon’ let nobody run up on him. Please try to talk him down, baby.”
“I talked to him. I’m gonna tell my daddy when he gets home. He said my brothers were considering helping him. Not on Jasper Henderson’s watch. Hendersons ain’t to be fucked with, but we ain’t no damn thugs. Ain’t none of us street niggas except Uncle Marcus. Maybe I should call him too.”
“This is fucked up. Why can’t they just let Maui do what she wants to do? They’ve tried to get her to come back and in so many words, she said fuck y’all. So let her do what she wants, even if that has her falling on her face.”
“Because none of us want to bury her, Asad.”
My tears unleashed, and he wrapped his arms around me tighter.
After kissing my head, he said, “She’s gonna be fine.
PJ ain’t gon’ let shit happen to her, neither will Uncle Legend and the family.
They love her too. Treasure, Uncle Legend’s oldest daughter, has been spending a lot of time with her. ”
“God, I hope you’re right.”
I hoped he was right, because all hell and damnation was going to break loose if something happened to Maui. I just wished she would come home.
