Amanda Parker adjusted her blazer, standing in front of the large glass doors of the building that housed the corporate headquarters of Matthews Couture.

She had never been in a space like this before—everything about it screamed power and sophistication.

The polished floors gleamed under the bright lights, and the air smelled like fresh-cut flowers, a subtle reminder that even in a world of numbers and deadlines, beauty still had a place.

Her palms were sweaty. She wiped them on her skirt as she tried to calm the butterflies in her stomach.

Today was her first day as Ericka Matthews' assistant, and she couldn't afford to mess this up.

Ericka was everything Amanda admired—driven, focused, and in control.

She had built Matthews Couture from the ground up and had turned it into a household name, known not only for its high-end fashion but also for its cutting-edge designs and fierce leadership.

"You're going to do great," Amanda muttered under her breath, trying to convince herself as much as anyone else.

With a deep breath, she stepped inside.

The receptionist greeted her with a warm smile, and before Amanda could even speak, the woman handed her a visitor badge. "Ms. Matthews is expecting you. Her office is on the top floor."

Amanda nodded, trying to steady her nerves as she took the elevator up. Each floor seemed more luxurious than the last, but nothing could have prepared her for what she was about to walk into.

When the elevator doors opened to the top floor, Amanda was greeted by a breathtaking view of the city skyline. But it wasn't the view that caught her attention—it was the woman standing near the window, her back to Amanda.

Ericka Matthews.

Tall, composed, and absolutely stunning, Ericka seemed to radiate power. Her black suit, tailored perfectly to her frame, hugged her body in a way that was both professional and graceful. The way she stood—so sure of herself—made Amanda's heart skip a beat.

Ericka turned toward Amanda, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. She was even more mesmerizing up close, her sharp blue eyes locking onto Amanda's. The intensity of her gaze made Amanda feel as though she were being seen in a way she wasn't used to—fully and completely.

Amanda felt her breath catch in her throat. "You... you're..." The words slipped out before she could stop them. "You're beautiful. Breathtaking."

The moment hung in the air like a silent accusation. Amanda's eyes went wide in realization, her face flushing with embarrassment. She quickly cleared her throat. "I mean, I'm sorry! That was completely unprofessional. I didn't mean—"

Ericka's expression softened for just a split second, though she quickly masked it with her usual calm demeanor. "It's alright, Amanda," she said, her voice smooth and reassuring. "No harm done."

Amanda's heart was racing. She had already made a fool of herself on her first day. Great. Just great.

But Ericka's cool composure had a way of making Amanda feel like she wasn't being judged. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something about the way Ericka carried herself made Amanda want to be better—want to prove she belonged here.

"Let's get to work," Ericka said, breaking the silence. Her voice was as sharp and precise as ever. "You'll handle my schedule, emails, and manage the day-to-day operations that I don't have time for. But I need you to anticipate my needs before I ask. Understood?"

Amanda nodded quickly, grateful for the shift back to business. "Understood."

They spent the next hour going over the basics—how to organize the chaotic schedule, where to find important documents, who to call for what—and as the minutes passed, Amanda realized something.

Ericka Matthews didn't just run a company. She ran a world. A world where precision, perfection, and control were non-negotiable. She was the sun, and everything else revolved around her.

But then, just as Amanda was beginning to feel like she had a grip on the job, something shifted.

Ericka paused, her fingers briefly resting on the edge of the desk, her gaze distant.

For a split second, the walls seemed to drop, and Amanda caught a glimpse of something unexpected—something fragile beneath the cool exterior.

Ericka cleared her throat and straightened up, as if shaking off a thought she'd rather not have shared. "We'll go over more tomorrow. You've got the basics today, but expect more work soon. A lot more."

Amanda nodded, her curiosity piqued. There was something hidden behind Ericka's polished professionalism. It was as if the CEO, for all her strength and control, was carrying a weight that only she knew about—and Amanda, for reasons she couldn't explain, felt an undeniable urge to learn more.

As she packed up her things and prepared to leave, Amanda stole one last glance at Ericka.

The woman was already back to her usual commanding self, her attention focused on the screen in front of her.

But Amanda couldn't shake the feeling that she had just witnessed something important, something that, if she was careful, might reveal the real Ericka Matthews.

The ride down in the elevator felt different now. Amanda had never been one to get emotionally involved in her work, but there was something about Ericka that drew her in—a magnetism that went beyond the professional realm.

Amanda tried to focus on the job at hand, but as she left the building and walked out into the bustling city, she couldn't help but wonder: What was it that made Ericka so distant? What was she hiding?

And why did Amanda feel so determined to find out?
