Chapter Thirty-Six
Noah
Smitty and I get back to the compound with some of the officers. We were allowed to head out to the range to do more target practice for myself. Smitty is happy with my skills.
“If things are on lockdown, how were we able to leave?” I ask Smitty as I hold the door open for him.
“Because I allowed it.” Amelia smiles at me. I pull her into a kiss.
“I love when you give me orders.” I growl into her ear making her blush. She pushes on my chest and I hiss out in pain. She freezes. “It’s okay. I’m a little sore today. I’ve been moving around a lot these last two days. I had been laying around in a hospital bed. It’s going to hurt as it heals.” Amelia steps back away from me. The sadness on her face breaks my heart. “Amelia, please.” I hold out my hand to her and she shakes her head. She turns to walk away from me and I follow after her. “You can’t run from me.” The women watch us as they’re going over the loads of guns on different tables. I want to stop to check them out but keep moving to talk to Amelia. She goes into her office and before she can slam the door in my face, my boot stops it. I push through the door. I slam the door, making her jump.
“Get out.” She whispers.
“No. We need to talk about this and do it now.” I stand in front of her as she was trying to keep her back to me. “I don’t blame you or TJ for these injuries.” I lift her chin with my pointer finger so she’s looking right into my eyes so she knows I’m telling the truth. “Look at my eyes, Amelia. I’m glad it was me and not TJ or Derby. TJ was in the bay earlier that day. He’d be dead. Derby was with him too. I was working on my law degree transfer when they were there and I made the decision to stay in case someone stopped by for something. I’d do it again. I hate that you’re carrying this guilt around. Tommy, Luka, and Richie Jr. are to blame for these injuries. Do you not want me anymore? Do my burns and scars disgust you?”
“You know I want you and find you attractive. I’ve never wanted someone more than I want you. Every time you groan or hiss in pain, the guilt keeps coming back.” Amelia’s voice breaks. I pull her into my arms holding her tight ignoring the pain of my skin stretching.
“It’s going to hurt for a while and there’s nothing I can do about it. Putting on my shirt, showering, stretching, and even moving my arms up above my head makes my body hurt, but I’m not going to stop living until I’m one hundred percent healed. I need to live and you need to let go of the guilt.” She nods in my chest. Amelia lifts her head off my chest and I see the tears falling from her eyes. I unwrap my arms from around her waist to wipe the tears. “I’m all in baby.” Amelia nods as I lean down and kiss her. Her arms around my neck as she pulls me closer to her like she can’t get enough of me has my dick hardening. I lift her up by her thighs to place her on the desk to take her, but her phone interrupts us. I groan out loud with frustration.
“This better be good.” Amelia snaps into the phone not knowing who is on the other end of the phone.
“Luka’s on the move.” Joker tells me. “Michelle’s phone is on, too. They’re together. They were at Tommy’s place.”
“Keep following them and let me know where they end up. We might need to leave before midnight.” Amelia hangs up the phone. “Come on. We need to get the guns ready. I also need to get in touch with Tripline to see how she’s doing.” I pout. “I promise after we get Tommy, I’ll make it to you.”
“We will be fine. I can wait. I’m not going anywhere and neither are you. Let’s go make a game plan. Smitty says I’m pretty good with the sniper rifle.” I wink at her, making her smile. I don’t want to be sitting here waiting for her to come home to me. I want to be there on the front line protecting all these women who have accepted me. We walk out of the office.
“All better now?” Derby teases us.
“No. Someone interrupted us.” TJ gags again. I knew he was sitting there, which makes it even funnier. Amelia hits him on the back of the head, reminding him of how many times she’s seen his ass in the air during his high school days. Smitty calls me over to check out the long guns for me to pick up and get a feel for them. We spend the next two hours going over the guns.
“All right you hooligans, clean off the tables. I have my lasagna down and ready for you. You need to eat something before wreaking havoc.” He laughs. The women pick up guns and put them in Church and lock the door. Since there are kids around they try to keep things cleaned up. I offer to help bring out the food and we all work together.
