Chapter 10

Hunter

My fucking dick has been hard for the past twenty minutes. The stupid vibration is not helping it at all, either. The way that woman looked on her knees did something to me. I couldn’t look away. I imagined her naked and raking her nails down my thighs.

I groan and shift my junk to get in a more comfortable position. Jesus Christ, Hunter. Get it to-fucking-gether, man. The poor girl was just beaten by her husband and is on the run, and I’m over here thinking about shoving my cock down her throat. I am so fucked up.

We pulled into the driveway of my house, and I notice another car parked in my driveway. It must be the prospect that is picking up Viper. I turn off the bike and pull my right leg over the side and almost fall on my ass because my stupid knee gave out on me. I hold on to the handlebar to right myself and wait for Blake to get out of her car.

Looking up at the sky, I see the dark clouds rolling in and push the bike under the overhang.

Viper comes through the front door and leans against the door jamb. “Did you bring a snack?” he nods toward the car.

“Shut the fuck up.” I wave my hand over my shoulder at him and then hobble over to Blake's car to help her grab her stuff.

I reach into the car and grab her two backpacks, shutting the door behind me. “You don’t have to do that. I can grab them,” she says, coming around the side of her vehicle with a sleeping child in her arms.

I chuckle and nod toward her arms. “You have your hands full. It is no big deal.”

She follows me up the stairs, and I groan with each one. My knee is being a real bitch today. “Getting too old to ride, huh?” Viper quips as I walk past him into the house.

“I’m not too old to beat your ass. Keep your mouth shut, and you owe me for gas,” I point at him. “You are going to ruin that bike of yours if you keep it too low.” I let out a harsh breath. “Not to mention what a piece of shit your bike has become, Viper. How do you expect to do long haul rides with that thing? You need to do maintenance and replace the shit you broke on it.”

He stares at me with his mouth open. “Why are you giving me so much shit for my bike, man?”

I scoff. “Because, dude, you need to have respect. Your ride reflects the club and when you go around on a dingy bike like yours, it makes the club look dingy.

I place Blake’s bags beside the couch and turn to see where she is, but she isn’t in the house with me. Huh? “Where you at, Crash?” I holler, walking back toward the front door.

I find her standing at the bottom of the stairs, just rocking her child in her arms back and forth. It looks like she is crying. “What did you say to her?” I punch Viper in the arm, and he whines like a baby.

“Ow! Man. I didn’t say anything to her. She is just standing there silently.”

I let out a breath and walk down the stairs toward her. “Hey.” She doesn’t respond, so I lift her chin. “What is wrong?”

She shakes her head. “I should go. I don’t know you. What if you hurt us? What if Craig finds me and hurts you guys ‘cause you helped me?” I can feel the panic rushing off of her in waves.

I cup her cheek. “First of all, you are safe here. No one here will ever fucking touch you. Secondly, if your husband shows up on my property, he won’t be leaving.” I growl. I wish he would come here. I have some choice words with him for being so much of a pussy he had to lay his hands on a woman.

Her daughter jolts in her arms in her sleep as thunder crashes above us. A raindrop lands on my cheek. Placing my hand on her lower back, I push her gently toward the house. “Come on. Let’s get you guys inside.”

With the impending chance of rain, she no longer fights going inside my house, and soon, we are all awkwardly standing in my living room. I glance over at Viper and raise my brow. “Go find something to do, man.”

He rolls his eyes but walks down the hall to the other end of the house.

Once Viper is out of the room, I give Blake all of my attention. “I know you are scared, Crash. But follow me for a second.”

She nods, and we walk to the back of the house where my room is. “This is my room. It has a large bathroom attached to it.” I grab the door handle. “And the room locks. You guys can sleep in here tonight, and I will sleep on the couch.”

She gasps. “I could never. This is your house. You should have your own bed. I can sleep on the floor in the living room, and Charlie can have the couch.”

I don’t know why this statement angers me so much, but it does. “Where in your right mind do you think I would sleep in my fucking bed and let you sleep on the floor?”

Her eyes widen. “I just mean—”

I wave my hand in front of her. “It doesn’t matter what you meant because that shit is not happening. You and your daughter will sleep in here tonight.”

“Charlie,” she whispers.

“What?”

She looks down at her daughter. “Her name is Charlie.”

I admire the fair skin of her daughter and the way her nose scrunches when she is thinking seriously in her sleep. “That is a beautiful name for a beautiful girl.”

“Thank you.”

I step out of the way and let her walk past me. “I’ll grab your bags,” I say before limping back out into the living room.

I’m just about back to the room when my knee completely gives out on me, and I tumble to the floor. The bags hit the ground with a loud bang, and Blake rushes out of the room to investigate. When she sees me on the floor, her eyes widen, and she lets out a small gasp. “Are you okay?”

I let out a breath. “I’m fine. This stupid fucking knee is being a pussy today.” I push myself up from the ground and grab her bags. “Here.” I hold them out to her. I notice her child is no longer in her arms, and I raise my brow. “Where is the kid?”

She tilts her head. “I laid her in the bed to rest.” She grabs her bags from me and sits them on the floor just inside the room. “Since she is sleeping right now, let me help you with your knee.”

I shake my head. “There’s no need. I just need to rest for a while, and I’ll be fine.”

She walks past me and into the kitchen, making herself at home. When she finds the ice tray in the freezer, she searches for something to put them in. I point toward the top cabinet, where I know the bags are. “Top left is what you are looking for.”

She blushes and gets to work, making me an ice pack. When she turns to me, ready to go, she smiles.

“Are you a nurse or something?”

She laughs. “In another life.” She points toward the couch, and I follow her lead in my own damn house.

I sit down and pull my leg onto the couch. She immediately sinks to both knees beside me and lays the ice pack on my knee. She is basically kneeling between my legs right now, and I’m trying to look anywhere but at her cleavage that is staring me in the fucking face.

“So.” I clear my throat and shift my position. “How long have you been married?”

She looks up from my knee with a sad expression. “Nine years.”

My mouth falls open. “Nine? You don’t look a day over twenty.”

“I am twenty-five, actually. I’ve been with my husband since I was sixteen years old.”

“Why so young?”

She looks away, and this time, I know she doesn’t want to talk about it, so I don’t try to pry it out of her. “Listen, you can go be with your daughter. I can hold an ice pack on my knee.”

Her cheeks blush. “Oh, right. Sorry.”

She stumbles backward, awkwardly missing the end of the couch by a few centimeters, before walking down the hall toward my room. Just before she walks through the door, she turns around to me and says, “Will you tell me your name now?”

I chuckle and nod. “It’s Hunter.”

She smiles at me.

“I will let you know when dinner gets here. I am going to order pizza. If that is okay?” I raise my brow.

She nods and turns toward my room.
