Chapter 21
Blake
We are getting dressed for the day, when a soft knock comes from the door. I yell, “Come in.”
Hunter opens the door a small amount, and when he sees it is safe to come inside, he does. “Can I have a word with you for a moment?”
I look over at Charlie, who is beaming at Hunter and smiles. “Charlie, why don’t you go out to the living room for just a second?”
She nods and rushes out the door.
I turn my attention to Hunter. “What’s up? Is something wrong?”
He shakes his head. “No, nothing is wrong. I have to leave tonight for a couple of days, though.”
Shit. I thought we had more time. “Okay, I’ll pack our things and be out of your hair within the hour.” I turn to start gathering our clothes and placing them in the bag.
“Hang on a second. That’s not what I was going to say,” he blurts out. “I was going to ask if you would come with me.” He continues before I have a chance to respond. “I don’t feel comfortable leaving you two here alone in case something were to happen. I would feel better if you were close, so I figured you guys could tag along.”
My heart skips a beat, He wants us close?
“Where exactly are you going?”
He smirks at me and sits down on the bed. “Sorry, only people who let me kiss them get to ask questions.”
I toss the pillow I have near me at his head, and he dodges it without hesitation. “I’m just asking because you want us to come along, but I don’t even know where you are going.”
He starts to laugh. “I’m just kidding, Crash. No need to get violent on me.”
I sigh and take a seat at the head of the bed, resting my back against the wall. “So, are you going to tell me?”
“Fine. It’s my club's clubhouse.” He holds his hand out for me to stay quiet. “Before you jump down my throat about Charlie—I have already thought about it. There will be other kids there, and yes, bikers, but we are a friendly bunch… mostly.”
I raise my brow. “Mostly?” I mock.
He shrugs. “I mean, most of us are a part of the one-percenters. I’m not saying we are saints or anything. But everyone has a belief system, and everyone tends to ignore that belief system when it gets in the way of what they want.” he gives me a small smile. “We are loyal, though.”
“One percenters? What does that mean?”
He chuckles. “Let’s just say we do things a little outside the law on most occasions.” He shrugs. “Nothing you need to worry your pretty little head about.”
I roll my eyes. “Are we just going to follow behind you? Will they care that you are bringing me? Should I be worried about anything?”
“Crash.” He sighs. “First of all, you are panicking for no reason right now. I promise, I will keep you safe. You have nothing to worry about as far as safety goes. Of course, they won’t care if I bring you. I’m the vice president of the club. It's hard to argue with me. And yes, you’ll follow behind me, or I can have Viper drive your car, and you can just be along for a ride if you wish.”
“Okay. Are you sure this is what you want? I mean, I can easily just keep driving and staying at a motel or something. I can figure it out.” I bite my lip. I only have three hundred dollars in my wallet right now, so if I had to do that, it would have to be a cheap motel.
I don’t want to be a burden or obligation.
Hunter stands and closes the distance between us, grasping my chin in his hand. “I’ve already told you that I want you to come with me, Crash. Don’t make me repeat myself again.”
I should smack him for talking to me like that. Who does he think he is? I defiantly pull my face from his grasp and turn my head to the side. “Fine.”
“Good girl,” he chuckles and heads for the door.
I don’t want to like how those words make me squeeze my legs together, but God, I do.
