Chapter 39

Hunter

After torturing Blake for another hour with my tongue, I finally allowed her to put her pants back on and we reluctantly drove back to the clubhouse. She is exhausted. I can feel it in the way her body rests against mine as we pull down the gravel driveway toward the house.

We are just getting off the bike when Viper walks out the front door. “Me and some of the guys were going to play a game of pool. You wanna join?”

I raise my hand. “I’ll be right in.”

After getting Blake settled on the ground and putting up her helmet, I cup her cheek. “Are you okay, sweetheart?”

She gives me a blissful smile and nods. “Very much so.”

We make our way inside for a game of pool, and Viper and Xavier are already playing. I raise my brow. “Are we not playing teams?”

Xavier shakes his head. “Not for this round. I owe him an ass whooping.” He points at Viper, who rolls his eyes and smirks at me.

Charlie runs into the room and wraps her arms around Blake who happily pulls her into a hug. “Did you have fun?” she asks Charlie. Charlie bounces in her arms and shows her, her newly painted nails before wiggling out of her arms.

“We are going to have tea time now!” Charlie rushes out of the room toward the kids area, leaving Blake speechless beside me.

Xavier beats Viper with five of his balls still on the table. Blake cheers for Xavier, and Viper grumbles something under his breath. I kick his shin. “Don’t be a sore sport. You’re gonna be getting an ass whoopin’ from me in a minute.”

He scoffs and leans on his cue. “We’ll see about that. Who’s going to be your partner?”

Before I can answer, Candace pipes in. “I will be.” I look over at Blake, who seems a little disappointed.

I would fight it, but I decide to use this as an opportunity for me to tease her instead. “Okay.” I point toward Viper. “That means Crash is your partner.”

Blake looks at me with wide eyes, but gets up from her chair and grabs a pool cue from the wall.

After putting the chalk on the tip, she narrows her eyes at me and says, “I will have you know, I was the pool champion back in high school.” She laughs.

Candace grabs her cue and scoffs. “Hunter wins every time he plays. You’ll be no exception.” Her tone is snooty, but before I can defend Blake, she has a comeback of her own.

“Well, he has never played me before.” She gives her a broad smile.

For the next twenty minutes, to my surprise, Blake matches me ball for ball. Candace has missed most of her shots, and Viper has landed his fair share. But Blake is who I am the most surprised about. I thought she was just bluffing.

We are down to the last three balls. One on my side, one on her side and the eight-ball. If she makes this last ball and then gets her shot at the eight-ball, they win, and I will never hear the end of it. But a part of me wants her to win.

Just before she shoots her shot, I lean in close to her ear and whisper, “Don’t miss.” She hits the ball, and it goes perfectly into the hole she was aiming for. So much for my attempt to distract her.

She makes no move to step back; instead she steps into me. “Your little games won’t work. I have dealt with worse.” She chuckles and pushes past me, getting ready for the next shot.

“It’s all down to this last ball. You really better not miss this time.” Viper says from behind her.

She waves him off. “I have basically carried this game; just let me work.”

She grunts and sets up her shot. When she hits the cue ball, everyone around the table holds their breath, waiting to see if she will land her shot. When the eight-ball drops into the pocket she called, the people standing around the table roar with excitement.

Even I have a smile plastered on my face. Candace however, stomps off in the opposite direction with a pout.

I roll my eyes and give my attention back to Blake and the crowd that starts to surround her. She looks at each one of them in awe as they congratulate her on what seems like such a small victory.

What can I say? It’s the small things in life that make us happy most days.

“Thank fuck!” Viper yells on the other side of the crowd. “I finally beat you!”

I laugh. “Technically, Crash beat me. Did you even help her win at all?”

He squints his eyes. “I don’t care. I’m taking this win no matter what. You are officially defeated, Mr. Undefeated Champion.”

I smile at Blake, who looks over her shoulder at me, and then clap Xavier’s back. “I’ll accept defeat.” I point to Blake. “If she is the one giving it to me.”
