Chapter 1

"What is this?" Harper looked up at her father and gave a weak smile. "It's Mom's hospital bill"

"$50,000?!"

"I-I know it's much but I really need your help dad. If I'm not able to pay this soon,mom won't get her surgery and... she may die!"

"Is that so? Why should we care about that?" Harper turned to look at the stairs and she saw Catherine and Chloe; her stepmom and stepsister walking down the stairs.

She had always lived a happy life with her parents until two years ago when her father; William suddenly brought his mistress and daughter into the family. Harper and her mother were kicked out of the house almost instantly. To make matters worse, Chloe turned out to be only a few months younger than Harper which meant that her father had been cheating on her mother for a very long time. The family affection she had received all those years turned out to be fake and Harper was beyond disappointed. She and her mother left resolutely without turning back.

Unfortunately, Bethany fell ill a few months ago and she needed surgery. Harper couldn't afford it so she had to come back to the one place she swore to never go back to,the Carson family. She thought that William would still have a bit of affection for her mother but judging by his actions just now, it turns out she was wrong.

"I'm sorry to have bothered you" Harper picked up her bag and was just about to leave when Catherine suddenly spoke. "You need $50,000? I'll give it to you"

"Mom!" Catherine simply raised her palm to stop Chloe from talking and she smirked at Harper when their eyes met. "I'll give you the money but on one condition"

"What condition?"

"You have to marry Harrison Whitney"

"What?!"

A few minutes later, Harper was standing in front of the Carson family company. She clutched her bag to her chest and took in a deep breath "Come on Harper, remember you're doing this for your mom!"

She walked into the company and went towards the front desk "Excuse me, I'm looking for Harrison Whitney"

"Miss? Why are you-"

"Please! Just tell me where he is!" The lady pointed in one direction. Harper followed her finger and when she saw Harrison,she knelt right in front of him stunning all the employees who were passing by "Harrison Whitney, please marry me!"
