Two Months Later

“How did you know?” Eloise asked.

“I, ugh, I’m not sure—”

“And that’s a problem?”

“I … uh, I don’t want them to know.”

“I … don’t know.”

“I’m not using him,” Eloise said.

“But you have him sneaking around.”

“It’s complicated.”

“You know what he did,” Eloise said.

“I’m not.”

Wendy frowned at her. “Why would I think you’re weak?”

“I love him.”

She nodded.

“You’re not mad?”

“No, I’m not mad. Why would I be mad?”

“Because I’m going to forgive him.”

“You knew?” Eloise asked.

“Yes, I am being serious.”

“Marry me,” Eloise said.

“What?”

“Marry me,” he said.

“I asked you first.”

“That’s good enough for me,” he said.
