Hazel
I love my boss.
That’s why I’ve been neglecting you, my dear diary. But fear not. I’m back and will still add entries as life goes on.
Two months have gone by since we had one of the most amazing nights ever, and Archer declared his love for me. Since then,we’ve been looking for a new home with a guest house so my dad can live with us and still feel like he has his own space. We found a lovely property courtesy of Malcolm, who told us about it before it hit the market. We’re signing the papers and closing today.
That’s not the only change. A month ago, Archer asked me to marry him.
I know.
Marriage!
So now I have this huge sparkling rock. We’ll get married soon, but not right away because a lot is going on. We’ve worked nonstop on the Sugar Silk collaboration project, and I’m enjoying it more than expected. I finally have a bigger role, am learning a lot of new skills, and am putting some I already have to good use.
It’s exciting.
A nip on my bare shoulder distracts me from my journal.
A sizzle goes up and down my body, and I close the journal, pushing it away on the bed.
Archer kisses my cheek. “Am I interrupting?”
My stomach flutters. I put my arms around his neck, smiling. He’s on top of me in his large bed, and nothing else has ever felt so right. “Never.”
He nuzzles my nose with his. “Good. Because we have an hour before meeting with the realtor again.”
“Are you sure about this? My dad is a lot less endearing when he’s that close twenty-four-seven,” I say, even though I understand why Archer doesn’t see a problem in having Dad in a guest house big enough for a family. Next door to us. They’ve spent more time together, too, and thankfully, they’ve bonded. Dad is doing well health-wise, and the more he gets to know Archer, the more he trusts him.
“Yes.”
I kiss him. “I love you.”
He gives me a long glance with his dreamy eyes, and my toes curl instantly. “You better.”
I run my finger down his nose. “Do you think you’ll enjoy having Malcolm as a neighbor?”
“I have to say that’s not my favorite part of this deal,” he jokes.
Smiling, I play with his hair. “You know, I was in his guest room once… wore his bathrobe.”
His expression grows serious, and it takes him a second or two to read the cues on my face. “What?”
“When we went over to his house, remember? And Sarah spilled wine on me.”
Sarah is a sweet soul, and we’ve become good friends. She attended our engagement party, and we talk on the phone all the time. As my role in Archer’s life becomes more personal, I’ve noticed that not everyone who crosses my path is genuine. I’m happy to say that Sarah is a breath of fresh air, and the organic way our friendship started has made a difference.
“That’s right.”
“Joke aside, I think Emma is into Malcolm,” I say.
“How do you know?”
“Ugh, she mentioned it at our engagement party last week.”
Emma became speechless when she saw Malcolm, but he seemed aloof and kept the conversation superficial.
“Maybe after we move into our new house, I should ask her to house-sit when we go out of town. She could keep an eye on Dad and Moonshine and be close to the hot neighbor,” I suggest.
Emma deserves happiness, too. And why not get it from a sexy, wealthy man like Malcolm? Rumor has it he hasn’t dated since his breakup, so he’s still available.
Archer lifts an eyebrow. “Hot neighbor? Maybe I shouldn’t close today.”
“Hot for her. I’m so happy and want her to be happy, too.”
He captures my lips with his, and I’m lightheaded by the time he drags his mouth down my neck and lower on my body. “She will be. But we have fifty minutes until we close on the house. Just enough time to make you very, very happy…”
