Chapter 53
Raine
Isobel looks at me as I sit back down, “you are meant for each other.”
Dasher is mine.
“I want to introduce you to him,” I tell her as we watch Dasher launch a perfect spiral to Dane who scores.
It seems like we’re finally getting our shit together. Soon the score is tied and a few seconds on the clock to kick a twenty-yard field goal.
Time seems to stop when Roden, the kicker lines up for his kick. The ball is snapped, he runs toward it, kicking it high and SCORE!
Fortune win. I hug Isobel, we high five others around us. We head toward his parents, who greet me warmly, “we knew you two were meant for each other.” Susan pats my arm, and I introduce Isobel.
She’s warm and friendly to Dasher’s parents which means a lot.
“Shall we go wait for your son? We can go to a celebration dinner,” I suggest. I’ll even have Dasher’s friends come, they deserve recognition as well.
The reporters have mics out, ready to get a statement from the players as they walk out.
Dasher emerges, gives his statement and then bear hugs his mom who laughs. I let him have his moment with his parents, he cares for them deeply. He then turns to me, “I’m sure we have a lot to talk about, but I’m really hungry.”
I laugh, “I’m sure we can find you something to eat. How about I order a bunch of food, enough for the whole team?”
His eyes widen, “the whole team? They won’t fit in the penthouse.” Isobel giggles, “he moved.”
Dasher looks at me and blinks, “you moved?”
I jerk my head toward the door, “text this address to the team, tell them to bring suits.” He does as I say, and I drive all of us to my new place. He walks into the huge home in awe.
Isobel shows him everything and he lets her explain all of it, though I know he’s wanting to know what she means to me. His parents follow her as I start ordering enough food for an army.
By the time I’m done ordering from about twenty-five different places, the tour is done. The doorbell rings and Tyler is waiting on the other side along with a few more teammates, including Hart.
“Food is on its way. There is an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. Make yourselves at home.”
Hart sidles up to me, “you know we have another couple of games.”
I snort, “I do, but this is still cause for celebration.”
He shrugs, “no alcohol.” I know the rules, I’m dating a football player.
Dasher finds me and I hand him a glass of iced tea I just poured from the fridge, “Dasher meet Isobel. Isobel, Dasher. No, I’m not sleeping with her, she’s been a great companion as I’ve been lonely, missing you.”
He hugs her and then turns back to me, “I was stupid, wrong, horrible.”
I wave him off, “you felt a lot of things in that moment. I wanted to give you space.”
He shakes his head, “I don’t need space anymore. I miss you.”
I pull him closer, kissing his forehead, “I’m here, you aren’t going anywhere ever again.”
He grins and goes to mingle with everyone. Isobel just watches, unsure of what her place is now. I have an idea, but it will have to wait until later. It will mean corrupting a quiet, elementary teacher, but I’m okay with that.
I watch the man I’m falling in love with, smile, relax, and have fun. That’s all that matters for now.
