You don’t get to be famous without breaking a few legs. That’s what Zee says. Although... he may have meant breaking a few eggs? But that doesn’t make much sense either.

Whether it’s eggs or legs, I never wanted to be famous. All I wanted was to live happily ever after in our tired hotel with the two people who matter the most. The two halves of my heart—Zee and Victor.

Sure, I’d done some bad things. Like eating a vampire duke... and maybe that one time, when I’d been having a real bad night and lured three demons into following me down a dark alley so I could eat them too.

Oh, and killing my entire family. But that was from before the veil sealed itself, locking a bunch of Lost Ones on the human side where we didn’t have much choice but to somehow get along.

I’d also killed a vampire queen... twice. Although technically, that had been an accident... twice. But who was counting?

We’d also saved lots of people from the dark sorcerer Gideon Cain’s wicked ways, preventing him from taking over the world, or just San Francisco. Not bad for a dragon hiding out as a human, an ex-adult movie star, and an out-of-work ex-billionaire vampire daddy.

The prophecy was fulfilled. My heart saved the world. It was over.

But I guess even after you turn the last page and close the book, the story never really ends. The heroes go home and live their lives.

And that’s where we begin—at the end, during our happily ever after . We didn’t know it yet, but our story was far from over. In fact, it had only just begun. And what happened next made Gideon Cain’s attempted reign look like the warm-up act to the real showdown.
