Chapter 4

RORI

T his dog runs off and makes me cry, ruining my makeup, and brings back one of the hottest guys I have ever seen. I try and wipe away some of the mascara running down my cheeks, but also don't want to wipe too much and smudge everything more.

"I'm Eli." He says as he kneels and starts scratching behind Rocky's ears. "And this is Rocky? Nice to meet you bud."

I look at how easily these two are getting along. Wrangler was never aggressive, but he was always a bit standoffish with my ex. I always assumed he just didn't like men, but the way he is interacting with Eli makes me think he just didn't like Jacob.

"Where did you find him?" I ask finally catching my breath.

"He jumped on me, while I was waiting for the elevator on the eleventh floor." He laughs.

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! He hasn't had any issues with jumping since he was a puppy!" I look to Rocky with disapproval. Like, bud, you're supposed to be making me look good, not like I raised a heathen.

"It's fine, I actually enjoyed it. I haven't had any real dog snuggles since I was a kid. It was nice." Eli smiles causing butterflies to flutter around my stomach.

"Well, we are here all week. If you want to spend some time with him, you are more than welcome. He seems to really like you." I offer. Am I pimping out my dog? Is this legal?

"I may take you up on that. I am actually heading to grab some lunch. Would the two of you like to join me?" Wrangler immediately sits at his feet looking up at him expectantly.

"Well, he sure would like to. Uhmm, can you give me just a minute to take my stuff up to my room?"

"Your room isn't ready yet." The young lady from before pipes in." You can leave it behind the desk and retrieve it when your room is available." I look over my shoulder at her, confused, until I see the smile on her face. She looks at Eli and then back at me, giving me a look every girl knows, "Go get it!" I smile and nod.

"Ok, thank you." I slide my suitcase around the desk. I attach the leash to itself and use it like a slip leash on Rocky; I don't need him running off and bringing home any more hot men.

"Let's go." Eli smiles as he places his hand on the small of my back, leading Rocky and me to the hotel restaurant.

for now

Katie Perez lives with her husband and 2 young children.

She is known for her dark and angsty romances, filled with strong women, powerful men, and the spice that carries them into their happily ever after.

When she is not setting unrealistic goals of how many books she thinks she can publish in a single year, she is probably drinking diet coke, eating salt and vinegar chips, and binge-watching reality TV.
