Princess Escapes Brother’s Deadly Trap

Chapter 1 The Familiar Face

I stared at the dim bed curtains, still dazed.

Xie Ning and I had already been shot dead by arrows.

The pain in my chest and waist remained sharp and real.

I forced myself upright.

Someone carefully drew the curtain aside.

A round face with a bright smile appeared.

"Imperial Princess, are you awake?"

I looked at A Li and felt a moment of disorientation.

"A Li, why are you here too..."

When Rong Che sent troops to wipe out Lan Shan, A Li had led the pursuers away for us.

Her body was never found.

"Imperial Princess, what are you saying? How could I leave your side for someone else to serve you?"

She pushed the window open, took a deep breath, and said with satisfaction,

"Finally, the day to return to Yu Jing. I was sick of staying at Cang Wu Mountain."

Cang Wu Mountain.

I froze.

Cang Wu Mountain was where I had gone to recover three years ago.

The furnishings around me matched the palace exactly.

Yet after my recovery, when I was brought back to Yu Jing, I discovered the demon realm had already fallen under Rong Che.

He was Father's adopted son.

After Father went into seclusion, he rebelled.

While Father was weak, he slaughtered everyone in Yun Tai Palace.

All of Father's old subordinates had been eliminated.

He had not even planned to spare me, his sister.

I looked down at my body.

I had returned to three years ago.

Did that mean Xie Ning and I could change our tragic end?

Wait.

I suddenly paused.

When Xie Ning and I married, the Gu Poison had already spread through his body.

Later, when Rong Che hunted us, Xie Ning had mocked himself as my burden.

That meant the poisoning happened right now, three years ago.

Three years ago, Xie Ning was still in Lan Shan and I could still save him.

"How far is this place from Lan Shan?"

I asked A Li in a rush.

She thought for a moment and smiled. "Quite close. About two days' journey."

"Why ask about Lan Shan all of a sudden? Planning a trip?"

A Li tried to persuade me. "But the people Young Lord sent to fetch you will arrive today. We have to wait..."

I cut her off.

"A Li," I said, meeting her eyes. "We're going to Lan Shan."

"Right now."
