Chapter 6

Shea

The day had started so perfect, and now as she watched everyone in the room, talking and shouting over each other, it had gone to shit.

Emiyah had moved by her side as Mack had made an appearance, bringing with him the special guest he mentioned earlier.

They must not have been far, for he got here quickly.

She noticed for the first time that Emiyah was not instantly fawning over Mack; she could feel a cold rage coming off her and that she made a point to speak to everyone except him.

She would not even look in his direction, and for the first time, she saw him sneak looks at her and wondered what the hell had happened.

Shea knew they needed to wrap this up quickly now because Roland had destroyed the only serum she’d made.

The only other solution was to rush them back to her place to get them locked into the secret room she’d had created for just this type of emergency; the same one she locked herself in the first time she’d tried the serum.

When the air had crackled between them, she knew she didn’t have much time before she went into full-blown heat. Shea had been fighting her body’s natural response all day and was getting tired of listing different types of herbs in her head to keep herself from reacting to Roland’s presence.

Shea found it was getting harder to control the natural instincts of her body wanting to mate, and Roland was a fine specimen of a man that her inner wolf wanted to ride till the cows came home.

She hoped that was all it was and not something else.

She didn’t even want to think about it because that possibility could never happen, and she’d needed the serum to make sure of that.

Now all three of them were about to be in deep shit. Wait?

She glanced around the room; something was missing. “Emiyah, where is Adanya?”

The room suddenly quieted.

“Oh my God, that is why I came here. Roland, Adanya was supposed to come back to the house after she found my ribbon, and I suddenly got a feeling of fear and dread. I think she is in trouble.”

There were many qualities she liked about Roland, and the fact that he took what his people said to him seriously and without question warmed her heart.

As he did right now, Roland didn’t bother questioning her; he went over to his phone. “Hersh, take some of our men and go and find Adanya. She is missing. Report back to me before you act. She has more than likely been taken captive by the mystery pack waiting on the outskirts.”

She wrapped her arms around Emiyah as a new fear for her friend rose up inside of her.

“We should go and help search for her.”

“No!” Three male voices spoke up in unison.

She took a step back as Roland glared angrily at them. “You are going to stay here and explain what the hell you three were trying to do with those vials.”

Her hand went to her neck where he had squeezed it; the fear of her life draining from her made her heart race, and she was now being tightly hugged by Emiyah.

The memory and the dull throb in her neck now kept her silent in fear; she didn’t want to have that reaction from him again or his father.

She glanced at the king and saw anger simmering in his gaze, but his face was patient as he took in the scene before him.

“Well, if you hadn’t tried to murder my best friend, she would have told you.” Emiyah glanced at her, making sure she was all right.

Roland’s glance shifted away from Shea, and now his attention was focused solely on Emiyah, but then Fantasy spoke up. “It was to stop our heat from happening. Not to kill the king as you thought. Shea would never harm anyone.” Fantasy said coldly, eyeing him up and down.

She didn’t think Roland could get any angrier, but he did, and she found herself facing him as he shook her.

First, he tried to take her breath from her, and now he was trying to shake her to death.

Her ire was now rising of its own accord, and she slapped at his hands, and he glared down at her instead in response.

“Are you crazy?" He stared at her as if she were nuts. "You knew what that serum could do, and you still decided to experiment with it on yourself and your friends because of the damn heat cycle?!” He wasn’t yelling, but his voice was tight with his anger.

“It’s our bodies, and we should be able to decide if we want to be mated to someone as brood mares or have it at all. Not be at the whimsy of our own traitorous bodies and Mother Nature.” "Fantasy," he said in disdain.

Emiyah lifted her chin. “The humans have birth control, and Shea was helping us with our own. She tested it first on herself several times, and nothing happened.”

“Now you are certifiable too.” Mack muttered under his breath.

“You shut up—you walking block of ice. You perfected the art of being quiet; please continue to do that.” Emiyah hissed.

Both she and Roland were distracted for a second.

He opened his mouth, then shook his head.

“What is—you know what? Never mind… This will have to wait. We have other matters to deal with right now.” And they turned when they heard another commotion coming down the hall, and one of Roland’s men had detained one of the maids that worked in the house, dragging her inside the room with the rest of them.

He looked down at her to say this wasn’t over, and she touched her throat to remind him she knew and lifted her chin.

Roland for the first time looked contrite, his gaze taking in the bruises she knew were beginning to appear, and his eyes flashed to hers for a second, and he touched it delicately, a stark contrast to what he’d done before.

She shivered because sparks had followed his finger as it traced her skin.

“Sir, you should hear this.”

The room erupted again when the maid told them what the pack had planned, and their guest begrudgingly confirmed what she was saying.

Both were ushered out and imprisoned when the line of questioning had come to an end.

Roland then ordered his men to begin to gather every available person to protect the village and send word to the other Lycan clans around the area of what was happening and to get their help.

He then ordered some of his men to protect the house at the protest of the King, who voiced that he wanted to be out there helping to protect the women.

While this was happening, Shea, Emiyah, and Fantasy were silently communicating to each other when the men were preoccupied with interrogating the maid and the spy and began to move slowly toward different exits in the room. They needed to get out of here now.

“What do you think you are doing?” Roland turned to them, and the men that were in a circle discussing strategy began to watch them as well.

“Well.”

“We.”

“Ah, shit!”

Shea had run out of time; heat ran up and down her spine, and her vulva pulsed painfully, letting out a strong scent and spurt of wetness that coated her thighs.

Hers triggered Emiyah, and she saw her best friends’ eyes widen in dismay as she clutched her belly and dropped to her knees, both staring at each other in surprise.

The heat began to consume her, and she began to squirm and pressed her hand between her legs to try and assuage the rising need to get on all fours and let the men in the room rut her.

She heard rumbling growls and saw Mack and Roland facing them, their canines dropping and their eyes going amber.

Oh no, fated mates.

She heard Fantasy scream. “Run.”

And she bent and snatched Emiyah off the floor, running out of the door and quickly down the hall.

She knew that running now would make them more excited and give chase, but they had no choice now.

She veered down a narrow corridor toward the servant’s area and knew that there was an exit that they could get through and hopefully would buy them some time to get outside and to her place.

Shea could hear crashing going on in the room and, from Fantasy’s loud squeak of outrage, knew that Fantasy had tried to block the men in some way, but from the sounds of her cursing, that it hadn’t worked, and they were on their way.

“We need to shift now. We can move faster this way. I know it will make it even worse for us, but I see no other way.”

Emiyah nodded, and they were now running the rest of the way in wolf form, fighting their natural instincts to stay and be mated.

She flew into the kitchen, and the staff let out surprised gasps, and they ran around the island as they heard the heavy footfalls of Roland and Mack.

Shea turned her head and saw them; she quickly bolted through the small door that was made for the servants if they had the urge to go for a run and didn’t want to go to the front of the house to do it.

Her wolf let out a howl of fear as she felt air pass over her back leg as Roland tried to grab her; she made it through and turned to see him eyeing her through the small door.

A predatory smile spread his lips and showed his teeth to her, his now gold-colored gaze holding so much promise of what he wanted to do to her.

“Where do you think you are going with my pussy?” He tilted his head, curious now, his gold eyes hypnotizing.

His voice sounded deep and guttural, and the traitorous part of her responded, her inner walls thickening, pulsing, and stretching, getting ready to accommodate his massively hard dick that was going to take her to places she’d never been in all her adult years.

Her head lowered to the ground, rubbing against the earth, and she slid closer to the opening for the kitchen but then felt a sharp nip to her rump and saw Emiyah looking at her and panting hard. She had almost gone back to him.

She turned and ran hard and fast along with Emiyah, knowing that time was running out for them.
