Chapter 17 #2

“Scythe is in the parking lot, keeping an eye on the front and side entrances. Menace is stationed at the back monitoring the other two sides of the building. And Pirate is tracking her electronically. She’s well protected.”

“See. I should be able to leave too.”

“Three people aren’t able to search for Razor because some or all their time is involved in keeping Winnie safe.

She doesn’t have a choice but to be at school.

Her mother’s death wiped out her sick leave,” Vex shared.

“Do you want Lucien to remove three more Devil Daddies out of the groups tracking Razor?”

That took the wind out of her sails. “No, of course not,” Honey admitted, slumping on the couch. She buried her head in Beatrice’s soft fuzz.

Vex stood quietly watching for a minute. She glanced up at him, meeting his sympathetic gaze. “I understand, Vex. Thank you for stopping to update me. I appreciate it.”

“You’re breaking my heart, Little girl. I’m not supposed to tell you this, but there is a secret passage from the cabins to Inferno.

I could escort you through that connection.

You could use your scooter for most of the way.

There’s one tricky part. I could carry you there, or you could walk if your ankle is up to it. ”

“I can walk!” She straightened her spine with determination.

“Only on that one section,” Vex reminded her before adding, “And only if you can manage it without pain.”

Honey lifted her foot from the floor and rotated her ankle to prove to him she was fine. It twinged a bit, but she wouldn’t miss this opportunity.

“Carry you, it is,” Vex told her firmly.

Honey rolled her eyes and gave in. “If you’re sure I’m not too heavy. Wait! Aren’t you wounded?”

Vex shook his head and flexed one massive arm. “Don’t ask me to risk Razor killing me and call me weak. I’ll be careful, Honey.”

“Sorry, Vex. Thank you!”

“Let’s go. It will take us a bit to get there,” he answered good-naturedly.

A few minutes later, Vex removed a brick from what Honey thought was an ordinary wall next to the clubhouse.

He inserted his hand into the empty space, and a person-size section opened.

Honey didn’t ask any questions. She wheeled her scooter down the path he’d revealed, feeling invigorated.

Finally, she might have a small part in bringing Razor home.

When they reached a small creek, Vex scooped her up over his shoulder and carried her scooter in his free hand. Honey couldn’t even be nervous with Vex talking to her the whole time. Her excitement grew when she spotted the first warehouse.

“Razor’s going to flay you alive,” Menace suggested when he saw them. “I’ll go get a cart.”

He’d jogged away before Honey could argue with that statement. Everyone they ran into had the same reaction, including Lucien, as Vex led her into the office through the concealed rear elevator.

A push of a button darkened the windows that looked over the public area of Inferno. “Don’t ask me for help when Razor hands you your ass,” Lucien growled.

“Stop it,” Honey demanded, shaking nervously as she stood up to the intimidating, tattooed biker who led the motorcycle club. “Vex didn’t want to bring me. He couldn’t stop me. I was coming if I had to wheel my knee scooter out the front gate!”

Vex shrugged and nodded.

Honey drew herself as tall as possible under Lucien’s perceptive gaze. After a few long seconds, Lucien turned his attention to Vex and ordered, “Take care of her.”

Vex ushered Honey forward and made sure Honey had a front-row seat before retreating to lurk at the back.

“Okay, settle down, everyone. Reports,” Lucien spoke in a normal volume that somehow cut through all the conversations following that confrontation.

“We can’t find any sign of him, Lucien,” Wraith told Lucien. “We’ve got eyes on several Ravager locations, and nothing seems out of the ordinary.”

“We’ll have to count on Razor safeguarding himself as we figure out where he is. Everyone keep your eyes and ears open. They’re going to make a mistake sometime,” Lucien ordered the group.

“I don’t like waiting around. How about if we pick up some of their guys?” Vex shouted from the back.

“I don’t think the Ravagers have any loyalty to anyone in their group. Even if we grabbed the president, I bet someone else would celebrate and fight to claim that position,” Scythe said.

Everyone paused and considered these words before nodding. No one doubted Scythe’s statement. The Ravagers would turn on each other like starving cannibals.

“You have to do something!” Honey pointed out.

Lucien froze and reached for his back pocket to pull out his phone. Silence fell over the group. “Pirate, we’re in a meeting.” He listened for a minute before saying, “Send that address to me.”

Honey’s heart lurched into her throat. Did they have a lead on Razor’s whereabouts?

Without saying goodbye, Lucien disconnected the call and watched his screen. A few seconds later, he glanced up at Wraith. “Road Captain. I need you to choose five guys, including yourself. You’ll need firepower. Razor signaled us.”

“Are you sure it’s not the Ravagers sending us into a trap?” Hellcat asked.

Honey shrank back from the look that Lucien stabbed him with, and she was ten feet away from Hellcat.

Hellcat held his hands up to ward off the MC president’s wrath and backtracked quickly. “Sorry, boss.”

Wraith stepped forward and called out names. “Hellcat, Scythe, Menace, Fury, Street, you’re with me. Go grab weaponry and meet at the bikes in ten minutes.”

“Don’t forget me,” Vex spoke up.

“You’re still healing, Vex. I need everyone at full strength. Besides, you have someone special to return to Razor’s. He’ll want to see her when we roll back into the compound.”

Vex opened his mouth to argue but turned to look for Honey. She stood up immediately and grabbed the nearest arm to stabilize herself on the scooter. Honey hoped he’d volunteer to stay with her. Vex was a joker and always in trouble, but he’d listen to her. She rolled closer to him.

“Please, Vex. I can count on you to tell me what’s really going on. Others might sugarcoat it for me,” she pleaded.

“I’ll get her back home, Wraith,” Vex promised the large man before walking to Honey’s side. “Come on. Let’s head to Razor’s cabin. I’ll even let you feed the chickens today.”

“Thanks, Vex.” Honey knew he was distracting her. A vertical, stress line she hadn’t noticed before divided his brows. Vex was worried as well. “I’ll be right back.”

She wheeled over to Wraith and blocked his path. “I need you to bring him home.”

Wraith glanced past her, silently communicating with someone behind her. Honey didn’t break her focus on the large biker. When Wraith met her gaze again, he assured her, “We’ll bring him home, Honey.”

A word in his promise scared her. Bring him home.

Did Wraith suspect he was severely wounded?

Razor had to be alive, or he wouldn’t have managed to signal Pirate.

Whatever had happened to him wouldn’t affect how much her Daddy meant to her.

Honey blinked as she suddenly understood how Razor felt about her.

Her disease didn’t matter to him. He loved her.

Honey glided closer and grabbed his cut, stopping him from shifting around her.

“He’s my Daddy, Wraith. I love him. He has to be safe,” she confessed, stressing to the large man how important Razor was to her.

“I made a mistake in running away. It was stupid to question his motivation for pursuing me. I have to make this right.”

Wraith’s face softened, and he focused on her fully for the first time. “I’ll bring your Daddy back, Little girl.”

“Do you promise?”

“I do.”

Honey released his cut and pushed her knee scooter back a bit, wobbling as she blindly reversed. Holding on to the handlebar with one hand, she flailed the other arm, trying to regain her balance. Strong hands gripped her waist from behind as Wraith stepped forward in concern.

Glancing over her shoulder, she spotted Vex who steadied her. “I’m ready to go to Daddy’s cabin now.”
