CHAPTER 18

Robyn

It was after midnight by the time he pulled his truck into her driveway. When he closed the truck door with his hip, the sound had her wincing.

“Shhhh!” she hissed.

“You own the place, babe. You don’t need to whisper.”

“But I don’t want to wake anyone up,” she said quietly as he climbed the steps of her porch. “Rooster? How do I know there is even anyone here? I mean, what if they are all still out? We can’t lock the door or anything.”

“Robyn, they’ve all got the keycode if they aren’t already sound asleep. And you aren’t running a daycare, you’re running a bed-and-breakfast.”

“Oh, right, but still, let’s be as quiet as possible, okay?”

“Okay,” he whispered back which caused her to giggle.

“I feel like I did when I was a teenager and broke curfew,” she admitted as he entered the keycode to unlock the door and pushed it open, closing it softly behind him.

“Role play. You in a short little skirt and a crop top, frilly little socks and a pair of pink and black sneakers. I like it.”

“Me too.”

If anyone was going to wake up, it would have been at Robyn’s shriek as the voice came out of the darkness.

“Shhhh!” Rooster hissed.

“I’m not the one screaming like a banshee.”

A light flipped on to illuminate a dark head sticking out of a throw that belonged on the back of the couch instead of covering someone sitting in the easy chair by the window.

“Hayleigh, what are you doing here? You scared me half to death.”

“I should be asking you where you’ve been, but since Sadie already informed me, I’d rather ask—did you have fun? I mean, I feel you owe me an answer since you disappeared on me after I told you I’d be coming over.”

“Oh, Hayleigh, I’m so sorry. I totally forgot and?—”

“I don’t care about any of that, I just want to know if you’re as good as I think you are.”

“I’m even better,” Robyn said, then lowered her voice to whisper again, “Rooster is my Daddy now, but we can’t talk about that here.”

Hayleigh nodded, her smile huge. “How about the kitchen? Can we talk there?”

Robyn was about to say no, but Rooster beat her to it.

“You girls can talk and I’ll stand watch. Just know this won’t be an all-night gabfest because you both need to get some sleep.”

“Oh, I’m good. I took a nap and I’ve already checked myself in. Daddy said I could spend the night since Robyn needs help and all.”

“That’s nice. I’ve been telling Rooster he needs a break,” Robyn said.

“Clock’s ticking, girls. You’ve got twenty-nine minutes now before it’s lights out.”

“Yep, he’s definitely Daddy material.” Hayleigh dropped her voice for the Daddy part of her sentence.

“Kitchen please.” Robyn pointed as if Rooster needed directions. He carried her into the room.

“Island or chair?”

“Chair, please. That way I can put the scones together for tomorrow.”

Rooster left them to it and the two girls squealed in unison as Hayleigh bent to give Robyn a hug. “I’m so happy you came to your senses. Oh, and Sadie and Wren said they are going to want the juicy details as well, so I can’t make you spill all the tea tonight.”

“Is there anything secret on this Ranch?”

“Nope, not much” Hayleigh shrugged and smiled. “That’s what friends are for. Caring.”

“And sharing?”

“Oh, there is definitely sharing.”

As Robyn told her about Rooster showing up in her bedroom and scaring her half to death, Hayleigh gathered the ingredients Robyn called for. The two sat and mixed orange zest and cranberries into the mixture, and after slicing the scones, set them on parchment-covered trays ready to be slid into the oven in the morning.

Robyn told her how they’d had lunch at Moira’s and how cute the twins had been and told her that she needed to go see the mustangs. She was telling her about her visit to Rooster’s ranch when Rooster called out a two-minute warning.

Hayleigh waved her hand in a circle as she finished cleaning up the mess they’d made. “Okay, that’s all great but get to the good stuff. I want to know when you decided Rooster wasn’t an ornery bird you wanted nothing to do with but was the man you want to be your forever Daddy. I mean, that is what you want, right? A forever Daddy?”

“I do and he is,” Robyn confirmed. I knew before we checked into Rawhide, but you already know about that, but I didn’t call him Daddy until?—”

“Time’s up,” Rooster said and when both girls protested, he held up his hands to form the letter “T” used to signify calling a timeout in football games. “You can pick it up again tomorrow.”

“Tea party?” Hayleigh suggested and Robyn looked to Rooster.

“Is that okay? The girls can help me so you won’t be bored.”

Rooster chuckled. “I rather doubt I’d be bored, but I get it. Girls only. That’s fine, if Hayleigh gets her butt to bed and you don’t fuss when I put you in yours.”

“Consider me asleep,” Hayleigh said, giving Robyn a hug and then hugging Rooster as well. “Night!”

“Night,” Robyn called out and smiled as her friend disappeared. She lifted her arms and settled her head against his shoulder after he picked her up. “Thank you, it was nice of you to keep watch.”

“You’re welcome and I can attest to the fact that Ms. Ethel is snug as a bug in a rug.”

“Oh, did she come home and I missed it?”

“Nope, for such a tiny lady, she snores like a congested lumberjack.”

Robyn buried her head in his neck to stifle her giggles as he carried her up the stairs. “I won’t fuss if you join me in bed,” she said softly, pressing little kisses to his skin.

“I thought this was a strict no playing zone.”

“It’s a no kink-zone, but the people coming here to visit had to have had sex at some point in their lives or there would be no one to visit.”

“Remember, you can wear his hat,” Hayleigh said as she popped her head out of a doorway on the second floor.

“Hayleigh Anne!”

“Wow, look at that. I must have been sleepwalking,” Hayleigh sing-songed as she shut the door to the Chickadee room .

“Your friends like walking on the edge, don’t they?” Rooster asked, giving her a look that she was pretty sure was meant to be stern but failed miserably due to his grin.

“Maybe, but life is never boring.”

While he’d been a gentleman the evening before and put her to bed in her clothing, tonight he didn’t only remove her dress, he removed every stitch she had on except for the ankle brace. She wasn’t complaining, not when he stripped as well until he stood in his birthday suit.

“You are one fine-looking cowboy,” she said softly.

“Hold that thought,” he said and then disappeared.

“Rooster, you’re naked!” she hissed before remembering they were alone on the third floor.

His reappearance had her giggling as he strutted in wearing his hat and not on his head. “I believe this belongs to you, little bird,” he said, swaying his hips which caused his hat to dance.

“What, the hat or its hook?” she managed between giggles.

“Both.” He moved his hat from his cock to her head and then slipped into bed beside her.

Her bed was nowhere near as large as the one in the suite at the Ranch, but when he pulled her close, she realized it didn’t need to be.

“Now, I seem to remember some little bird giving me sass about riding. I know you like to ride horses. Tell me, do you also like to ride cowboys?

“I do.” Robyn pushed the hat back off her face so she could see his smile as she moved to straddle his hips and then slowly, oh so very slowly, lowered herself onto his shaft.

“Giddy up,” he growled and his entry was made much easier as her sex flooded with arousal.
