Epilogue

N ine weeks later.. .
I was giggling as I pulled Alessandro through the front door of our favorite pizzeria, the one and same my gran used to take me. It felt like déjà vu bringing him here again, even as it felt like a hundred years had flown passed since we’d been here the first time.
“Pepperoni?” Alessandro asked me with a low chuckle.
“Is there any other pizza?”
“Not for us,” he confirmed.
We ordered our pizza and cokes and took a seat at a small table, the interior lights turning the windows into hazy mirrors. I blinked at my reflection. My hair had already grown out enough for me to have it cut and styled, and dyed back to its original mousy brown color, though somehow my gold chain highlighted it into a glossy sheen.
Aside from a pinkish-white scar peeking out from one side of my brow, I looked pretty much the same. Though my hair was worn shorter, I was back to the old me.
“There isn’t anyone more beautiful,” Alessandro reassured me huskily.
The pizzeria’s front door opened. A gorgeous woman in pink heels and a short pink dress that might have been glued to her fabulous body stepped inside. She glanced at Alessandro and flicked back her long blonde hair.
“You were saying?” I asked drily, wishing now I’d worn something a little sexier than my black-and-white striped skirt with a matching black stretch top. Though I had to admit my thigh-high black boots were killer.
He snorted. “She’s got nothing on you.”
I leaned across the table, his hands enclosing mine as I said, “That’s why I love you so much. You’re still wearing your rose-colored glasses.”
His smile was sexy and more than a little dangerous when he said,
“And I always will.”

I never got over losing Gemma. I'm still putting together the shattered pieces of my heart after she walked away from me, as though I meant nothing to her, as though I'd never even existed. It didn't stop me from searching for her, and now I've finally found her I don't intend to ever let her go again. She is mine. A shame a war breaking out between rival mafia families threatens to take her away from me yet again.

He doesn't try to pretend I didn't hurt him when I left without even saying goodbye. Perhaps that is why he doesn't care if he hurts me in return by taking away my freedom. He's keeping me hostage in his cabin by a lake in what looks like the middle of nowhere. But if it almost killed me being with him the first time, how can I survive a second time?
