Chapter 2

Giselle
“Okay, I admit that he’s acting butt-hurt longer than he should be. But I hate seeing him so sad,” Eve added to the discussion that she and I brought up to Nick and Carlo.
“My dear, I know you love Stefan,” Nick said to his wife. “We all love Stefan. But this is not our place to step in. The three of them need to work it out themselves.”
Eve shook her head and sipped on the tea I’d made for her. “I don’t agree. I think we can help. And if you’d let me try—” she raised her eyebrows and fluttered her eyelashes, “maybe I can talk him around.”
Nick gave his wife a half-smirk. “And by ‘talk him around,’ you mean sit on his face.”
She shrugged and smiled. “I do some of my best talking when I’m on your face.”
Nick chuckled and nodded as he sat back in his chair. “I can’t disagree with that.”
Carlo looked at me and then at Eve. “I’ve tried to talk to him. It goes nowhere. He’s determined to be mad. So, let him. Eventually, he’ll have to accept the fact that Giselle and I are trying for a baby.”
I sat down beside Carlo at the table. Stefan had gone upstairs to work in the library a while ago. Eve had proactively asked Sophia to take the kids next door for their naptimes.
“Evie and I could make him feel better. And maybe bring him out of his funk.”
Carlo picked up his coffee cup. “No fuckin’ way.”
I set my hand on his arm. “Carlo, come on. Please? It’ll make him feel better.”
He tipped his cup back and looked at me. “Not gonna happen, Giselle.”
I rolled my eyes and then Eve and I kept on trying to convince these two bullheaded men that our idea might work.
Ten or twenty minutes later, Nick weaved his fingers together and leaned forward with his elbows on the kitchen table. He stared at Carlo for a moment. “You know, we could use this to our advantage.”
Carlo’s eyebrows nearly met as he frowned. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
Nick’s head tilted and he shrugged. “Well, if Stefan has the women to himself—you and I could do the same thing.”
My eyes shot over to Eve’s—but she was already looking straight at me with her mouth open. I couldn’t help but giggle at the shocked look on her face.
“I mean, that would make it even for everyone.” I rubbed Carlo’s arm and gave him a side hug.
He peered at me. “Except you and Eve get laid three times to our once.”
An honest laugh flew out of my mouth. “Umm, that usually happens anyway, honey.”
Nick cleared his throat. “But we’ll have our own time with both women. And they’ll have time with each other.”
Carlo sighed but he didn’t say no. “I don’t like it. It’s risky. Giselle and I are trying to make a baby. I don’t need you coming inside of her, complicating things.”
Eve’s eyes got all teary. “Aww, remember when you got all alpha on me? When you decided it was time to try for a baby?” Eve’s voice was high, and she sounded genuinely reminiscent.
Nick nodded and laid his hands on the table. “Yeah, I got a little possessive.”
Both Carlo and Eve laughed right out loud. “A little? You had a complete shit fit,” Carlo outed his best friend and laughed even louder. “I thought you were going to shoot me right after I came down your wife’s throat.”
Nick threw him a glare. “I still might.” Then he took a deep breath. “My point is,” he narrowed his gaze at Carlo, “I turned a bit overprotective once Eve and I decided to have a baby. So, you might want to think about that now.”
There was a minute of silence before Carlo opened his mouth to talk again. “You’d have to use protection when you’re inside of Giselle.”
Nick gave him a look. “You remember my trip to Paris? When I got Eve’s best friend pregnant? I’m well aware of what can happen when a woman isn’t on birth control.”
Eve sighed and said, “Well, Louise wasn’t honest with us. That was a whole other ball of wax.” She leaned her head on Nick’s shoulder. “And it all worked out in the end.”
He slid his arm around Eve and kissed the top of her head. “It did.”
Gosh.
They were so cute.
I touched Carlo’s thigh and squeezed it. “Everyone will be protected. And you’ll get Evie and me at the same time, too. We make a pretty good team. Just think about how much fun we’ll have. You,” I slid my hand up his thigh, “me,” I moved my hand up so my pinkie grazed his groin, “and Evie. I’m sure you can think of a bunch of different things for us to do.”
He sighed deeply and used his index finger to lift my chin. “You promise you’ll be safe?”
I grinned so big my face hurt. “I promise.”
