Chapter 43
CHAPTER 43
E veryone at the hospital was glad to see Fran back, and he got more than a few hugs from fellow staff members. He accompanied Robbie on his rounds so he could see who was in the hospital and why. A couple were still there from the coach accident.
He smiled at and talked to the patients and did nurse things when needed.
“Glad to be back?” Emory asked Fran as they bumped into him in the corridor.
“I am, but I miss Jacob,” he replied.
“That’s understandable, I miss my Ezzy.”
“And I miss my Finn,” Robbie added.
“Yeah, but you guys are mated. Jacob and I aren’t mated yet,” Fran pointed out.
“In your heart you are. It doesn’t matter that you’ve not bitten each other yet,” Emory replied.
“That’s true. I hope he’s taking things easy,” Fran said, sighing.
“He will be. Everyone has strict instructions to make sure he does,” Robbie reminded him. “Now Emory, how is Mr Fitzpatrick doing?”
Fran was rushed off his feet for the rest of his shift and was secretly glad when it was time to leave. He updated a couple of nurses, waved bye to Robbie and Emory and walked to his car, impatient to get home and see Jacob.
Jacob was sitting on the sofa in his and Fran’s room, Joe next to him, with Finn and Ezzy sitting in the chairs, all on their laptops.
They had been outside and shifted. Jacob felt better after his shift, so at least shifting was helping to fix some of his issues.
Now they were all looking to see if they could uncover what a silver wolf meant. Well, the others were, Jacob was still going through his father’s accounts.
“Here’s something,” Finn suddenly said. “I clicked on a random page, on the wolf shifter council website, about wolf shifters history. It says that silver wolves were really rare, like one born every five thousand years and they’re known as ghost wolves.”
“But I wasn’t born with a silver wolf. I only became silver after I was poisoned,” Jacob pointed out.
“Maybe they mean born through trauma and not born born,” Ezzy suggested.
“Maybe. Does it say why?”
Finn shook his head. “No, it looks like the rest of the page has been cut off or deleted. I’ll keep looking to see what I can find.”
“Well, I’ve found something. It looks like my dad was paying Nidal two thousand pounds a month for the past seven years.”
“He was paying Nidal to be your friend?” Joe asked in shock.
“Either paying him to be my friend or bribing him to rat me out.”
“Well, we knew Nidal told your dad everything you did. That’s why he’d get pissed with me when he found out you’d spent time at my house,” Joe said.
“I always wondered why you never told him when I was coming round,” Jacob said.
“My house was your safe place. I knew if Nidal came round, you wouldn’t relax. Besides, my parents didn’t like him.”
“Still doesn’t explain why he was happy I’d been kicked out of the pack though. I’ve cancelled the direct debit that was set up. I should probably email Cresswell and tell him.”
“Tell Dad, he can then let Cresswell know,” Ezzy said.
Just then there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Jacob called out.
The door opened and Clairmont walked in carrying a tray, James following.
“Evening, gentlemen. Jacob, James and I have come to set up your table,” the butler said.
“Thanks, Clairmont. I hope I didn’t cause any extra work for you all,” Jacob said.
“More work for what?” Finn asked.
“A special dinner tonight for Fran, with his favourite foods,” Jacob replied. He looked at Clairmont and James. “Can I do anything?” he asked.
Clairmont shook his head. “No, thank you, Jacob, we have our orders from Laura.”
“If you guys are getting ready for dinner, then we three will leave you to it and see you tomorrow,” Joe said, closing his laptop and standing up.
“Thanks, friends,” Jacob said, and just that quickly, Joe, Finn, and Ezzy left the room.
Jacob stood up and walked to the table. The setting was stunning, a deep red tablecloth, shiny cutlery, crystal glasses, and white roses filling a crystal glass vase.
“This looks amazing, thank you both. You don’t think this is silly, do you?” he asked, suddenly unsure.
“Are you kidding? Fran will love this, and the fact that you thought about doing something nice for him will make him happy,” James told him.
“James is right, Francis will love this. Once Francis is home, we’ll bring your dinner up.”
“Thank you, both of you,” Jacob said.
“You’re welcome. Oh, before I forget,” Clairmont put his hand in his pocket and put something on the table, then ushered James out.
Jacob looked to see what that something was. He laughed and blushed when he saw it was a new tube of lube. He picked it up and took it over to the bedside table and put it in the top draw. He had no idea how Clairmont knew what he was planning tonight, well that wasn’t true, they were all wolf shifters, so knew he and Fran would want to mate as soon as possible. Jacob just hoped he had the energy to make it happen.
