Romeo (Satan’s Warriors MC, NorCal Chapter #2)

Prologue

Romeo

Seven years old.

I walk home from school with my best friends ever, Ash, Ace, Thor, Beau, and Josh. We’re the Satan’s Warriors MC spawns; that’s what the Brothers say.

We’re the MC’s brats; that’s what Dad says we are.

I don’t think that we’re brats; we only like to have fun.

I don’t get it.

I follow my friends, who are almost like my brothers. I know that we will always be brothers because I’m going to Prospect as soon as possible. First, I have to finish high school, Dad said. Dad is the Enforcer, and I’m so proud that he’s such a badass.

I follow my brothers up the gravel road to the clubhouse. I live there with Dad, and I don’t have a mommy. Emma left me behind and broke my heart, and I’ll never forget what she said.

Kevin, shut the fuck up! I’m not taking you with me! I don’t want you in my life; I don’t love you or your bastard dad!

I shake my head, trying to clear my mind; her words hurt. It’s been two years, and it still hurts. I don’t know if I’ll ever forget what she said. And I don’t understand why she hates me. I tried to be a good boy. I always did as she said. I never asked her for much, not even a hug. But Dad gives me great big hugs and even gives me kisses all over my face. That has to stop because I’m getting too old for kisses all over my face. It’s embarrassing; the brothers always laugh.

We get closer to the clubhouse, and I can smell the chocolate chip cookies I know Mama Bear made.

Ah, hell yes!

Okay, now I’m really happy. She always makes them at least once a week, and I’m always the first one to get a cookie.

“Hell yes, Mama Bear made some cookies,” I say, walking across the gravel at high speed, taking big, long strides to quickly get to the clubhouse.

“Fuck, I’m getting me some after I put my stuff away,” Josh says, walking behind me.

Josh is my best friend; we’re the same age and always together.

“Okay, I’ll wait for you in the kitchen,” I say, lifting my chin.

I run into the clubhouse, waving at the boys, stopping before I get to the kitchen door. I run my fingers through my collar-length hair and pull on my hoodie. I have to be on my best behavior so that I can get my cookies.

I open the kitchen door, and I walk over to Mama Bear, tucking my hands in my hoodie and inhaling deeply.

Oh yes, I smell cookies.

“Mama Bear, could I have a cookie,” I ask, walking into the kitchen.

I love Mama Bear because she’s like a real mommy. Mom took off with another man, leaving me with Dad when I was five. I can barely remember what she looked like, but what I do remember is that she was mean and didn’t like to talk to me. Dad is okay, but Mama Bear is nice.

Mama Bear turns to look at me; her lips turn up into a huge smile.

“Of course, Kevin, you’re such a good boy that you deserve all of the cookies in the world,” Mama Bear says, nodding.

“Thank you, Mama Bear,” I say, smiling.

Mama Bear walks over to the huge glass jar where she keeps all of the cookies. She grabs two and hands them to me with a napkin.

“Kevin, would you like some milk with your cookies,” Mama Bear asks, running her hand through my thick, long, shoulder-length blonde hair.

“Yes, please,” I say, nodding.

I take a bite of the chocolate chip cookie, my favorite.

“Awesome, I love that you like to drink your milk because it will help you grow tall and strong like your Dad,” Mama Bear says, smiling.

She grabs a glass from the cabinet, walks over to get the milk from the refrigerator, and pours the milk into the glass.

“Here you go, Kevin, have a seat at the table,” Mama Bear says, walking over with the glass to the table. She places the glass on the table, sitting across from me.

“Kevin, I’m going to ask you to keep an eye on Cherry and Candy because they’re the youngest of all of you, and I know that I can count on you,” Mama Bear says, smiling.

“Mama Bear, I always take care of Cherry and Candy,” I say, nodding and taking a drink of my milk.

“You’re such a good boy, Kevin. I need to get started on fixing dinner,” Mama Bear says, walking to the kitchen.

“Okay,” I say, nodding.

I eat my cookies and drink my milk. I take my glass to the sink and walk out of the kitchen, across the clubhouse, looking at the club whores dancing. Geeze, those girls are almost naked. I walk down the hallway to the room. Dad and I have a room that we share.

I unlock the lock with the code and enter the room. Dad is not home yet; he’s always on runs. I walk over to my bed and set my backpack on the bed. I take off my hoodie and pull on my t-shirt, the MC black t-shirt with the white letters and MC colors.

Satan’s Warriors MC Spawn!

I pull out my homework folder from my bag and start on it. I want to finish it so I don’t have to worry about it, which is what Dad says I need to do every day. I get busy on my homework and finish it. I slide my homework into my folder and close my backpack. I push off my bed and walk to the bathroom.

“Kevin.”

Oh yeah, Dad’s home.

I walk out of the small bathroom, lifting my chin.

“Dad. You’re home early.”

“Buddy, I have some free time. Let’s go get something to eat.”

Dad smiles, takes a few steps, and runs his hand through my hair.

“Awesome! Dad, could you take me to Red Robin?”

“Yeah, we can do that. Did you have a good day in school?”

“Yeah, Dad. And I’m done with my homework,” I say, moving my head up and down.

“Fantastic! Good job! Son, I want you to always do your homework. It’s important to me for you to work hard and focus in school. I don’t want you to be an illiterate MC brat.”

“Dad, but I want to be just like you.”

“Buddy, I want you to be someone. You don’t have to be a fucking Satan Warrior. I have money for your college.”

“Dad, you’re someone. You’re the Enforcer.”

“Son, you still can be like me, but smart badass. Come on, let’s go get some grub.”

Cherry

Six years old.

“Come on, Cherry, let’s hide from the boys,” Candy says, pulling my hand.

Candy is like a big sister; she’s older, the same age as my sister Halo.

“Oh my god, where are we going to hide,” I say, looking around the yard.

It’s so dark because the moon is hiding behind the clouds. We got to play because the club was having a party, and Dad said to go and play outside.

I like it when we get to play outside in the dark, but sometimes I don’t like it when the party goes on forever, because I get tired.

“Come on, Cherry, Sissy ran out to the fruit trees, so let’s follow her,” Candy says, pulling me along.

Sissy is Candy’s nickname for her sister Pandora; we call her Dora. My two older sisters, Halo and Pixie, always hide really well.

“Oh, this is so much fun,” I say, breathlessly looking for the boys wide-eyed.

“Yeah, it is. I love it when the boys want to play with us,” Candy says, nodding.

“Come on, Sissy, Cherry, hide before they find you,” Dora says, falling behind the large apple tree.

I run as fast as I can; I need to hide behind the huge bin where my brothers put the apples. I want to grab one because I’m so hungry. I run around the big bin and lean against the cold metal with my heart pounding fast in my chest. I’m so excited; it’s a little scary waiting for them.

I cross my arms, wrapping them around me and closing my eyes. I don’t want to be the first to get caught because I hate being the one looking for the boys. They hide where I can’t find them, so we girls end up always looking for them.

The boys don’t play fair, they all work together to find us but only let one of us girls look for them when it’s their turn to hide.

“I can smell you,” Ash says, laughing.

My heart pounds faster; I bit my lip to stop from yelling. Ash, Beau, and Josh are Candy’s and Pandora’s brothers, and Ash is the eldest of all of us.

“Yeah, I can smell their fear,” Thor says, clapping his hands.

Thor is my oldest brother, and then there’s Ace, and they’re just as bad as Ash, Beau, and Josh. My two older brothers always take care of us. All of the boys are so bossy, but they protect all of us at school, especially here at the clubhouse.

“Guys, I think that they went into the warehouse,” Ace says.

“I don’t think so because it’s always locked,” Beau shouts.

Beau always likes to scare me, I hug myself tighter, looking around the dark orchard.

“Josh and Kevin, you look for the girls behind those fruit trees,” Ash says.

“Okay,” Josh says.

“Let’s go look for them,” Kevin yells.

Josh and Kevin are the youngest of the boys. Josh is Candy’s brother, and Kevin doesn’t have any brothers. That makes me sad because his mommy left him. Mommy always says that she likes to give Kevin some Mommy love and that we all should think of him as another brother. I don’t know about that because I think he’s so cute.

Oh my god, I can’t see them, but I can hear them. My heart pounds really fast, and I look around, but I can’t see the girls.

“I caught you,” Josh yells.

“Ohhh, run, Cherry,” I hear Candy shriek.

My heart starts pounding; it’s so dark, but I start to run. I run as fast as I can, but I can hear footsteps.

“I’m going to get you,” Kevin says, laughing.

I can feel him behind me; I look over my shoulder and trip over the fallen tree branch.

“Aaaug, ohhh,” I yell, falling onto my chest. I break the fall, extending my hands in front of me, but I hit my knees on the ground.

I start to cry; my knee hurts.

“Cherry, are you okay,” Kevin says, helping me to sit up.

“I don’t know, it hurts,” I say, gasping for air.

“Cherry, you’re okay. Look, it’s just a scrape,” Kevin says, brushing off the twigs and dirt off my legs.

“Okay, I want to go see my Mommy,” I say, looking at his green eyes. They look so pretty, like shining rocks.

“Okay, I’ll take you to Mama Bear, but don’t cry,” Kevin says, wiping my tears.

“Thank you,” I whisper, taking his hand.

We walk to the clubhouse, holding hands. Kevin walks me to the kitchen to search for Mommy.
