Roxy
“I can’t believe we have to go back home already. The weekend flew by,” I whine. While I’m not complaining too much, I want more time with just the two of us before the rest of the people in our lives intrude on our loved-up bubble. Still, the sooner we’re home, it’ll mean that we can settle into our new family. I’m excited about that, even though I know it’s not going to be a bed of roses. Between Canyon learning to harness his gift, and both kids still grieving, there are bound to be days when I’ll wanna pull out my hair.
“Back to reality,” Weston teases me. “Got a report from Mrs. Tremain in my email while you were in the bathroom cleaning up,” he tells me as he wiggles his eyebrows recalling the reason behind why I had to refresh myself in the first place. “We’ll have more than Independence Day to celebrate in July.”
“Our court date has been set?” I ask, excitement thrumming through me.
“Yes, it is. July third, Egypt and Canyon will officially be ours,” he says, tugging me into his arms. “Then, we’ll be official.”
“The club’s going to throw a blowout party to beat our wedding, won’t they?” I ask for clarification. “I want to do something special for them, just the four of us. Do you think they’ll be offended if we go someplace without them? We owe RiffRaff and Jillian so much for sticking their necks out for us like they have.”
“Let’s celebrate with the club on the third, then the four of us will head to Pigeon Forge and go to Dollywood,” he proposes. “We’ve both got vacation time coming, so when we go back to work, we’ll put in for it. If necessary, I’ll pull whatever strings necessary to make it happen, too.”
Knowing how much respect he has at the hospital, I’m positive getting the time off won’t be an issue. But the biggest thing, to me, is he remembered that was someplace I always wanted to go.
“You didn’t forget,” I murmur.
“I’ve never forgotten anything where it pertains to you.” At my look, he raises his hands and continues. “Okay, some of it was muted by my anger, but once Wrecker helped us realize what had truly happened, all of it came rushing back, Foxy.”
“There’s so much to do there, too!” I exclaim, finally letting it settle in my soul that all of this is actually happening. “I mean, we’re definitely going to hit up Dollywood more than once, of course, but Gatlinburg is close as well, and they’ve got several candy stores on the main strip where homemade salt water taffy is made right in the window?”
“How do you know that?” he asks.
“I took one of my vacations to Gatlinburg and found all sorts of neat things to see. I couldn’t go to Pigeon Forge, though, because that was something we were going to do together. I just wasn’t able to force myself to do it by myself, because I felt like the experience wouldn’t be the same because you wouldn’t be by my side.”
“I’m glad you decided to wait on me to go because I still haven’t been,” he confirms. “I couldn’t bear to go without you and watch you experience everything for the first time.”
“Then it’s settled,” I say, bobbing my head. “I can’t wait to tell the kids.”
“Well, we won’t wait any longer. Let’s go home, Foxy Roxy and tell them the good news.”
“Thank you.”
“For what, Roxy?”
“For anticipating what I need without me having to tell you I need it,” I surmise.
“That’s because I know everything about you, baby girl.”
“Baby girl?” I squeak out. “That sounds like a name one of the guys in my MC romance books would call a club girl.” I scrunch up my nose because I don’t like it. “Let’s nix that nickname, I’m not sure I want to be referred to as something someone uses when they can’t remember their bed partner's name.”
He laughs and pats my ass. “Whatever my Foxy Roxy wants.”
“Good. See, you can teach an old dog new tricks. I’ll have to tell Wrecker he was wrong about that.”
“Woman?”
“What?” I innocently ask as he chases me out of the hotel room.
Our life may not have been full of sunshine and roses the last couple of years, but it’s bright now and smells amazing.
“Race you to the car,” I call out over my shoulder. “The loser has to rub the other one's feet!”
“I’m not sure I want to lose,” he grumbles. “Massages lead to sexy time.”
“We’ll see,” I sass, giggling.
The End
Next up for the Cedar Creek branch will be Saber and Roxy’s follow up holiday novella. Anticipated release will be late June or early July where we’ll finalize Canyon and Egypt’s adoption and see what other mischief the Imperial Knights are up to.
