Some people have a favorite time of year — spring, summer, or fall.
Daniel was the opposite. He hates Christmas.
All that fake cheer. It makes him want to gag.
Not just the sickly sweet, Hallmark toxic perfection that’s rammed down his throat as soon as the weather turns cold.
No, it’s all the festive music, the tinsel and especially greeting cards.
Every damn year he gets asked why he hates it so much, and he has to get creative with his reasoning.
It’s not just the way the holidays have been turned into a huge sales gimmick, although that is part of it.
Mostly it’s because of Matthew, not that Daniel would ever admit that out loud.
He’d try not to think of Matthew at all.
Only that is next to impossible when the greetings cards arrive.
That Grady, his brother, insists on sending a card to him each year just rubs Daniel up the wrong way.
Especially seeing as Grady makes him write it.
Along with all the others. Obviously, Daniel hasn’t told him why he hates greeting cards so much.
That would mean telling Grady why, and he has no desire to dredge up one of the most emotionally painful, not to mention humiliating moments of his life.
Which is why he’s considered a grumpy, grinch-like S.O.B.
Well, that’s according to Grady, and his assistant, and pretty much the entire company.
Not that they would say that to his face, apart from his brother, seeing as Daniel is the senior partner in the law firm and an alpha.
