“What are we doing?” I ask as he leads me upstairs. He slows his naturally longer gait to my shorter one, not tugging ahead.

“A shower, then sleep,” he replies, tone full of amusement. “It’s been a long day.”

I don’t know whether I’m disappointed or relieved that we won’t be doing any of the tummy-fluttering things he suggested tonight. But my shoulders relax for a different reason that is more difficult to admit.

I won’t have to leave if I give in to the sparks between Zane and me. There are many more firsts.

Trusting him feels good. Being near him is like home. I shouldn’t give in to this, but I’m not sure I can stop myself. Zane says I’ll be addicted to him by the time he’s done everything he wants to me, but that’s not what I’m worried about.

Nope.

My fear is, if I’m this in love with him after half a day, what will happen after a week? Or a month? Or however long it takes for Zane’s imagination or interest in me to wane?

With every touch I fall for him more.
