I’m rubbing sleep from my eyes when I reach for my locker.
“Balloons!” Charlotte squeals.
My hand pauses mid-air as I stare at the blown-up condoms that are stuck all over my locker. I grab Charlotte’s hand and hurry down the hall.
“I’m not feeling well, Charlotte. Go on to your room.” I point down the hall and then rush to the bathroom. I wait for the last student to filter out when the bell rings, and then I slide to the ground.
The door opens, and a tiny head peaks in. “Kelsie,” Charlotte says my name quietly, lowering to the ground beside me.
I smile at her. “I’m okay, sweetie. I think I’m going to go home today. I must have the flu or something.”
“Okay.”
She hops up and offers me her tiny little hand. I let her pull me to my feet. Charlotte is the sweetest little girl I’ve ever met. As I’m splashing water on my face, hoping it will ease the puffiness of my swollen, red eyes, I see her set something on the sink beside me.
“Wear this and make a wish,” she says quickly. “I’ve got to go. I hope you feel better soon.”
“Wait!” I holler after her, not wanting to take the special trinket from her. She rushes out before I can stop her.
I shake water from my hands, grabbing a handful of paper towels to dry my face.
Quickly, I brush the chain into my palm, securing it around my neck as I rush out of the bathroom. I slide around the corner to grab something out of my locker before I can get out of the building.
“You can’t be in here!” Principal Fowley yells.
I skid to a stop, my gaze crashing with green eyes that are ablaze with fury. He doesn’t look away from me as he calmly pulls his knife from his pocket and flips it open.
“Oh my god!” the principal screams.
The pop of the first condom echoes through the hall.
“Holy shit,” I breathe out.
I don’t know why, but with the next pop, I run.
When I get to my car, I notice several bikers surrounding Jason’s vehicle. One of them dumps out a trash bag over the hood. What the hell are those?
I should go, but I want to see what they’re doing. I don’t recognize any of the men, but they all have Skull jackets on. Within minutes they’ve covered Jason’s shiny black car with dildos in every color of the rainbow, all standing proudly at attention.
My hand flies to my mouth to stifle my laughter.
The passenger door of my ride opens, and in slides a fuming beast of a man. Instantly, the air leaves my lungs. Being in his presence again makes my pulse quicken. His gaze tracks my tongue as I run it over my top lip.
“Drive.”
Blinking slowly at him, I begin to shake my head. He reaches over, wrapping his big hand over mine as it rests on the gear shift. Not breaking eye contact, he shifts the car into reverse.
“Drive,” he says again.
Oh, oh maybe he’s in trouble for having a knife in the school!
I gun out of the parking spot, speeding past the men who are now getting on their bikes. They salute my passenger as we fly by.
“Slow down.”
I instantly take my foot off the gas at his command. “But … do you think Principal Fowley called the police?”
He chuckles, resting back into his seat. “Not a chance. Did you know that she used to be a stripper?”
My mouth falls open.
“Yep. I mean, I don’t blame the lady. It put her through college.”
“Do you know her?”
“No.”
“Then how do you know that?”
“If I told you, I’d have to kill you.”
I swallow hard. “I … I like what your friends did to Jason’s car,” I stutter, not sure if I should be thanking him or not.
“Like that, huh?” He shrugs. “When I heard what the fuck was on your locker, I sent my guys to the sex shop. We cleared them out.”
This makes me giggle. “I didn’t even know we had a sex shop in town.”
“You mean to tell me you’ve never been in there?” he asks, tipping his head to the side.
“No. God, I don’t even know …” My thoughts drift in a different direction. Maybe that’s what I need to make …
He smirks. “If you’re too embarrassed to check it out, I’ll run in and get what you need.”
Did I fucking say that out loud?
He laughs at the way my eyes widen. He motions for me to turn into the parking lot of the ice cream shop.
“Your usual?” he asks after I park.
Nodding, I bite my tongue. My usual? How does he know mint chip is my usual? I swallow hard at the warning look he gives me before he gets out. He’s worried I’ll leave him again.
The second he’s in the building, that’s exactly what I do.
