51. Chapter Fifty-One

My hands shake, and I squeeze my eyes closed when the door clicks shut. It’s not him. It’s not him.

I feel the cool air brush over my skin as he lifts the comforter. The bed dips as he slides in next to me. So familiar, so fresh in my mind. It takes everything in me not to reach for my gun as his face drops close to mine, his breath hot on my cheek. As soon as his warm body wraps around me, and his scent wafts over my face, I sink into him.

Ah, that’s better.

I release the breath I was holding. “Is JD okay?”

“He’s fine,” he murmurs, snuggling his face into the crook of my neck. “You saw me coming. I must be losing my touch.” Suddenly, his head lifts from the pillow. “You painted the ceiling?”

I open my eyes and watch the stars flicker over the darkly painted dome above us.

“But I thought it was your safe place?”

My chest squeezes at the hint of worry in his tone. “It was … is,” I say quietly.

He rubs his hand over my stomach. “Maybe you can take me there someday. Was it a real place?”

“I don’t know.” I turn in his arms, and I’m met with the calm green of his stare. “Have you ever had that feeling of longing for a place you’ve never been? You can almost see it in your mind, but it’s fuzzy and just out of reach. All you really know is that your heart aches for it. It’s like being homesick.”

“Yeah, I know exactly what you’re talking about.” He wraps his leg over mine, pulling me closer.

“That’s where I go.” I debate whether I should elaborate.

His thumb rubs over my cheek as he waits for me to continue. It’s one of the things I love about him. He never pushes me.

He listens, even in my silence.

“The first time I went there,” I pause, swallowing, “it wasn’t foggy. It was real. The sky was so blue, and the breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass. It was such a contrast to where I’d just been that I fell to my knees. It was quiet there; the only sound was the flutter of a turtledove’s wings. It was like the universe opened the door to paradise and let me step through.”

I lean forward and press my forehead against his chest. “I’m sorry. It sounds silly.”

He hugs me tight. “I don’t think it’s silly at all, but it doesn’t explain why you painted over it.”

“Because it’s still there, underneath the dark pigment of the paint.” I lean back to look at him.

Tank tips his head, staring at the dome above us as the stars he cut into the lantern flicker over it. His hand lightly rubs over my back. “Faith.”

“Faith,” I agree quietly.

His mouth slowly pulls up on one side as he rolls over the top of me. “If you wanted to see stars, all you had to do is ask.”

“Is that so?”

My gaze follows him as he slowly slides down my body. His big, tattooed hands wrap around my knees, pushing them apart. He looks at me unashamed, his palms slowly trailing down my thighs. My heart rate picks up as I anticipate his touch. Desire pools low in my belly, and my face flushes. His tongue peeks out between his teeth, teasing his bottom lip.

When my hips lift from the bed, his eyes are back on mine. “I want to taste you.” His deep voice vibrates my soul to the very core.

“Okay.”

The way his tongue spears into me makes me cry out. “Oh!”

“So good. So fucking good,” he mumbles gruffly against my sensitive skin.

My fingers dig into the bed sheets when he slides one and then two fingers into me. “I’m going to come,” I rush out in my struggle to hold back.

Instantly, his mouth and fingers are gone. “Not yet, little shadow.”

“I … I’m trying.” My breath comes out in little pants. “It feels too good. I won’t be able to stop if you touch me again.”

He chuckles darkly, sitting back on his haunches. His big, tattooed hand runs through my wetness before wrapping around his cock. My mouth waters as I watch him slide it up and down.

“That’s not helping.” But I can’t help myself and sit up for a closer look.

His head falls back, his gaze resting on the ceiling as he continues to stroke himself.

Jesus.

Hesitantly, I reach out and trail my fingers over the tip of him. His cock jerks in his hand, and a deep groan rumbles from the back of his throat.

“Sometimes I don’t think you’re real,” I whisper before lowering my face and taking him in my mouth.

His fingers thread through my hair, his other hand holding the base of his cock. I’ve never liked doing this, but with Tank it’s different. Everything is different with him. It feels safe and good.

When his grip tightens in my hair, I breathe deeply through my nose. I want to make him come. I need it more than air right now.

“You’re going to make me come down your throat.” His voice is strained as he holds me back from taking him as deep as I can.

My eyes lift, meeting his green ones, silently granting him permission.

He rolls his head on his shoulders, and then before I know what’s happening, his hand is pressing on the back of my head and his cock is buried deep in my throat. I gag, tears running out the corner of my eyes. My hands fly to his thighs, steadying myself as stars break out across my vision.

Just as quickly, he pulls my head back, and he’s staring down at me. His gaze bounces over my face as he gages my reaction, making certain this is what I want, what I need. And then he’s back, deep in my throat.

“You’re fucking perfect,” he grits out between clenched teeth.

He uses my mouth relentlessly, and soon his warm cum is filling it. My eyes roll back at the salty taste of him and the deep sound coming from his chest. His hand brushes down my hair, like I’m the most precious thing in his world, and it makes me feel so good that I decide I’m never letting him leave my bed.

Once he’s caught his breath, his big hand lands in the center of my chest and I’m pushed back against the mattress. His other hand is busy guiding himself between my legs. He trails his cock over me, and I hiss. We both tilt our heads to watch as he enters me.

When I whimper, his eyes meet mine. He holds me there, his hips slowly rolling against me. Strong, sure, determined. But he doesn’t pick up the pace. No, he continues the same consistent rhythm, which is slow as fuck, and it drives me wild. His green gaze refuses to let me go; it taunts me into begging him to go faster.

His hand slides up my chest, his fingers gently wrapping around my throat. The way his pupils grow, overtaking the moss color of his eyes, makes me shiver in anticipation. This is a real man. He’s safe. He’s confident, and he’s going to help me grow into my sexuality. It’s exciting and …

My mouth falls open as his fingers tighten around my neck, and then every muscle in my body tenses.

Oh … oh… all at once the damn breaks, and my soul flies free.

It floats back to reality … a dust mote dancing in a single stream of sunlight.

Slowly, it settles back into the shadows. I open my eyes, knowing that’s okay, because Tank can see me here. It’s where he found me, after all.

He stares at me for a long moment before pressing his lips to mine.

I’ve never felt more seen.

“I love you,” I whisper against his lips.

His kiss deepens in response.
