Chapter 2
CHAPTER TWO
FLORA
“There she is, my little princess,” Edward calls down the hallway and I hear the sound of her squeal as he picks her up.
“Daddy,” she giggles as he places a kiss on her cheek, and that’s when her eyes land on me.
White blonde hair that sits in curls past her shoulders, matching eyes with her daddy and a cute button nose with freckles.
She buries her face between Edward’s neck and shoulder.
“Delilah,” his voice is so soft as he coaxes her out of her hiding place. My eyes drift to a younger man, similar to Edward and I assume it’s his brother.
“This is Flora, I would really like it if you could come and say hello,” he places her down and tucks her hand in his as he walks her down the hallway to where I am standing, and when they approach, I kneel down so I am more on her level.
She eyes me, hand still firmly tucked inside Edward’s.
“Hi Delilah, I’m Flora,” I smile, and wait with bated breath to see if she makes a move. Turning her head, she looks up at her dad and he gives a soft nod.
I watch as her hand slips from his and she steps a little closer before her hand reaches forward and rests on my cheek.
I don’t move.
Scared to ruin the moment, but I let my eyes lift to look at Edward.
His brows are furrowed, a hint of a smile tugs at the corners of his lips but I can’t read him.
“Hi Flora,” her sweet voice pulls me back, “I’m Delilah.”
“Well, it’s very nice to meet you,” I smile, baring my teeth as she drops her hand from mine.
“Daddy?” she turns and looks at him, “Can we show Flora the garden?” and I see the sadness flash across his eyes.
“I would love to, but I have to go to work,” he sighs and my chest aches. “But maybe Uncle George can go with you? How about that?”
“Yay, Uncle George,” she runs towards the man that is still standing in the doorway.
“Make sure you show her your special princess tree house,” Edward hums as Delilah drags uncle George down towards the hallway then takes my hand too.
“I trust all is okay, I’ll be home for eight. Then you can leave.” Edward calls out and I manage a quick no problem , before we’re out into the garden.
EDWARD
To say Flora was more than I expected was an understatement.
Blonde, petite, curvy, beautiful.
Having her here is going to be a temptation, but she is with Travis.
I feel anger bubbling towards the surface at what she said about him working late.
Twice I’ve asked him.
Twice.
So either he is working somewhere else of an evening or he is up to no good.
Kind of hoping it’s the latter because I won’t have to be cautious around her.
She even smells good.
Groaning, I grab my keys from the side table and look towards the back garden.
Hate that I have to leave, but kind of happy that Delilah took so well to her.
I never expected it. I expected her to be hesitant, to take a week like she normally does with new people, but not with Flora.
She was straight up to her, and that made the nerves in my stomach witter away to nothing.
I stand for a moment longer, and reluctantly, I leave.
What scared me the most, is from that small amount of time with Flora, I knew I couldn’t let her go, even if I had to.
Now it was time to work.
Travis wants to work late.
Then he works late.
Game. On.
