C HAPTER 33
MADDOX
I drove my fists into the bloodied face of the bastard in front of me, again and again, until his face was unrecognizable.
Hit after hit after hit, the pitiful shell of a man nearly unconscious before me. His face was swollen, blood pooling everywhere. He was fighting, choking for every breath. That only fueled my hunger for more violence. I didn’t see him—I didn’t see anything but fucking black before my eyes.
His agonized sounds filled the room. He begged me to stop, cried and prayed. I’m no god, and his prayers won’t be heard here. One last hit to his face, and his cry stopped.
His body fell to the ground with a sickening thud.
The blood in my veins ran at full speed. I looked down at my hands, coated in his blood. There was no sign the fucker was still breathing.
I kicked him a few more times. No reaction. He was dead.
If he had been smart enough to set aside his pride and loyalty, I would have granted him a quicker, less painful death. But he chose to be a little bitch, and now he paid for it.
Angelo handed me a small towel. I wiped the blood off my hands, then tossed it onto the man’s lifeless body.
I still couldn’t wrap my mind around how he managed to find us. This house is hidden in the mountains, far away from everything and everyone. These motherfuckers really have people everywhere.
When I find out who’s been snitching to them, I’ll bury them alive and let them rot in agony.
“You didn’t have to kill him in the middle of the living room,” Angelo muttered, clearly disgusted, staring at the man’s crushed face.
Well, it’s a pretty ugly picture.
Thank fuck Lydia decided to take Allyn out on a hike.
“If he was a little less of a dick, I wouldn’t have killed him,” Angelo shot me a look, his brows raised. I glanced down at my blood-stained white shirt. “Well, at least not like this.”
“I’ve always loved how callous you are,” he laughed, but I didn’t find it funny. There’s nothing funny about not feeling at all. It’s a curse. Angelo turned to his guards, snapping his fingers.
“Get rid of his body.’’ I looked down one last time. This fucker didn’t value his life if he thought sneaking into the house was a good idea.
And his audacity to carry a fucking gun just feet away from Allyn—that’s what really put him in his grave.
“It’s not safe here,” I ran a hand through my hair. “They know our every move.”
“What do you suggest we do?”
Angelo stared at me, as if he expected me to have the magic solution. There’s no right answer when you’re teetering on the edge of a fucking mob war.
“We’re going to arrange a meeting with The Romano’s.”
“Are you fucking crazy?” Angelo raised his voice, knowing damn well the answer to that question. “Absolutely not.”
“I didn’t ask for your fucking permission,” I spat back. “It’s not up to you anymore.”
Not after he fucked up in Italy.
“Think smart, Maddox.”
“Oh, I’m thinking smart,” I muttered. “That’s exactly why I’m going to kill them one by one.” I hissed in his face before walking past him, slamming my shoulder into his.
If this pathetic loser could sneak through our people and walk around the house with a fucking gun, then he sure as hell wouldn’t be the last one to try.
The next one might find Allyn first, and I won’t fucking forgive myself if that happens. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil, and my need to kill someone with my bare hands intensifies.
I spent an whole hour trying to calm down, pushing the violent thoughts out of my mind. At least for now.
After that, it was time to clean myself up. I was still wearing the blood of the man on my clothes and skin.
I walked into the nearby bathroom. The first thing I did was wash my hands, watching the blood slowly fade into the sink.
What if next time it’s too late? What if next time they actually get her?
They’re after her, and I don’t understand why. No one’s giving me a straight answer. I’m kept in the dark.
“Maddox?”
Her voice rang out, and I’m painfully familiar with it—the sound of her laughter, her anger, the way she comes apart. It’s both a blessing and a curse.
It’s painful even to look at her. I’m pissed off by how fucking stunning and infuriating her beauty is. She’s not wearing any makeup, just simple gray sweatpants and a white sweatshirt. She took me in fully, her eyes widening.
‘‘What happened? Why are you covered in blood?’’ Her gaze stared in horror at my shirt.
“Leave, Allyn.” I hissed the words through my teeth. But the truth is, the last thing I want is for her to leave.
“No.”
She walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Her gaze lingered on my blood-soaked shirt before stopping in front of me. Her hands shook as she touched my chest. I groaned.
Her touch was so gentle, and it felt like healing my scarred skin.
“What happened to you?”
“Nothing happened to me,” I clenched my jaw. “That’s not my blood.”
The realization hit her, her eyes widening in shock. Her face changed.
“Did you hurt someone?”
Oh, princess, if only you knew.
My gaze drifted to her full lips, and for a fleeting moment, I wanted to kiss her—consume her. But it was a stupid thought, so I pushed it away.
Her hands gripped my blood-soaked shirt, clutching it desperately.
There was no anger, no rage or hatred. She silenced them all.
Her eyes welled with tears, and without warning, she broke down. Her hands slid up, cupping my face gently, her touch tender as she gazed at me with tear-filled eyes.
And just like that, she made my demons kneel before her.
“I thought something happened to you,” she whispered, her voice trembling as she rested her forehead against mine. “I thought you were hurt, that something bad happened, and I- ”
I silenced her with a kiss.
I kissed her like I was drowning, and she was the only air keeping me alive. It was rough yet gentle, desperate yet filled with yearning. And she kissed me back as though I was something she needed to breathe, something worth saving.
I pulled her closer, even as my mind screamed at me to push her away. Each kiss felt like a failure to do so—a failed attempt to escape her, and the addiction to every inch of her that was growing stronger.
Allyn tasted like heaven, a sweet paradise meant only to ruin me. And when she slid her tongue into my mouth, I was lost. We both moaned as our lips moved in sync, her hands quickly working to unbutton my shirt, and I let her take control.
I lifted her small body, placing her on the sink and spreading her legs so I could fit between them. My hard cock pressed against her, and I could feel how wet and ready she was.
Her body called my name as she purred in my arms like a kitten, pulling me closer without breaking the kiss.
I forgot about everything else—nothing else mattered.
Not Angelo. Not Lydia. No one but us.
Allyn managed to get rid of my shirt, tossing it to the floor.
She was wild, so perfect.
The way she let me take control, let me have her exactly how and where I wanted, was enough to make me lose my mind. I couldn’t help but wonder—was I the one in control, or was it her?
Her legs spread open for me, and I knew the answer to my previous question.
She is in control, always her .
She let me in, moaning my name as my fingers worked against her pussy through her clothes.
‘’I need you, Maddox’’ she pleaded.
‘‘Fuck,’’ I cursed.
And just as my fingers worked her clit and she was on the edge of falling apart for me, melting under my touch and purr in our kiss, my phone rang screwing everything up.
I groaned.
Whoever is on the other side of the phone has a fucking dead wish.
“Pick up the phone,” she said breathlessly in our kisses. Her hand found its way down, squeezing my cock through my shorts. “Put it on speaker”
My dirty, dirty girl.
I did as she said.
Fuck this is going to be hard. I cleared my throat.
‘’Yes?”
I tried to act as normal as possible but it was impossible when Allyn is working my cock with her hand like that, making me hold back another groan.
“Sir, we have a problem.” Christopher, one of my most loyal men spoke through the phone. He sounded worried and deadly serious. “Men with guns broke into the mansion in Scarlet Vale”
His words made us both freeze in place.
I no longer felt the heat I felt second ago. My pulse quickened.
‘‘What are the damages?’’
“Everyone in the mansion is dead, sir. Everyone.”
My body went numb. Allyn dug her nails into my chest, so hard I’m sure blood followed.
So many emotions flashed through her eyes before she passed out in my arms.
