C HAPTER 49
MADDOX
I hit my head back against the bed frame again, stretching the chains around my wrist only to feel the sharp pain.
My skin was turning purple and I’ve been doing this for the past few hours, staring at the same white dot on the dull wall.
The powerlessness was driving me fucking nuts.
Little by little, I’m regaining my strength, and it has everything to do with Allyn. She takes care of me, washing my wounds, bringing me medicine. I didn’t feel as much pain anymore when I try to move my leg or any part of my body. She was here every day, taking care of me behind her father’s back when she should’ve left me to rot in Hell.
And it’s fucking pathetic that after everything she did to make me her enemy, I can’t force myself to do it.
Anyone else who dares to cross me like this would end up tortured to death, in a coffin five feet under.
But her? No, I couldn’t fucking hurt her. Even though I said I would.
But deep down, I’m sure we both knew I would never fucking hurt her. And that is the fucking weakness I never needed in my life.
I never believed I would experience it. I’ve laughed so many times in the faces of people, because weakness is what gets them killed.
Karma is a bitch. A fucking bitch.
I was deep in my thoughts when the door opened. I expected Allyn to come in for her usual check-up, but I was confused to find the redhead instead.
I think Allyn called her Daphne? Not that it mattered.
My eyes were drawn to her hands, carrying food.
She placed the food on the table next to me, her hands trembling in the process, making me laugh.
Call me an arrogant prick—I don’t fucking care—but I’ve learned to read women’s bodies. I know when a woman wants me or when she’s nervous around me. This Daphne girl is both.
“I brought you food,” she said, wobbling awkwardly on her feet. Her face was as red as her hair.
“I thought I was only allowed food once a day,” I arched an eyebrow. “That’s the second, if I’m not mistaken.” I kept the information to myself that Allyn sneaks me food at least twice a day. I was more interested in getting to the real reason the redhead was here.
“I managed to steal more food for you,” she offered a shy smile. “I thought you might be hungry.”
My grin grew bigger.
“I thought you called me a dick?” I repeated her words from a few days earlier, amused by the situation. “But yet here you are.”
She played with her hands—another sign she was nervous, keeping a distance from the bed. She was like an open book to me, and she didn’t even realize it.
“And you’re still proving you’re a dick.”
“And you’re still right about that.”
She took a deep breath, visibly irritated. It’s so easy to get under these women’s skin—it’s killing the thrill.
“I thought you might need some company,” she mumbled finally, looking around. “You’re locked in this room— you must be lonely.”
“And I need your company?” I asked, raising my eyebrows. She gave a faint smile, blushing.
“Why not?” She sat down on the bed close to my legs. “I can make your stay here more pleasant.”
Bingo. We got to the point.
“How? By letting me fuck your cunt?”
I wasn’t about to spare her my sharp tongue. Her eyes widened— like she didn’t expect it, and she turned her head to the side. It’s weird how eager she was to offer herself, especially to a man like me—someone who would kill her without a second thought if she dared touch me without my permission.
“You’re so vulgar.”
“You come in here, offering yourself to me, but call me vulgar?” I laughed. “Not quite right, redhead.”
Does this chick even understands who I am and which side she’s supposed to be on? She works for Mikael, which means I should be her enemy—the last person she’d be offering herself to.
Even with my hands chained to the bed, I bet I could still have her however I wanted. If I gave her the green light, she’d ride me without a second thought, without me even lifting a finger. I wouldn’t have turned down such an offer months ago, but now? Now it’s different.
“You work for Allyn Romano, right redhead?” I asked, giving her a good look.
She nodded almost imperceptibly.
“You know, she won’t be happy if she finds you here.”
“She won’t mind,” she whispered, blushing even more.
“Oh, she would mind, alright.” I smiled wickedly at her. I wasn’t going to spare her any details just because I’m the dick she accused me of being. I leaned in as if I was going to tell her a secret.
“She rides the same cock you beg for, little redhead.” Her reaction was priceless.
Horror, disgust, shock, seeing that face made it all worth it. She jumped up from the bed as if I’d burned her, disgust written all over her face while my smile grew wider and wider.
That’s right—I want her the fuck away from me.
“You’re a fucking pervert,” she almost screamed in my face, her voice filled with anger and disgust. “When Mikael finds out about the lies you’re spreading about his daughter, he will kill you.”
“I’m already dead, redhead. I don’t really fucking care,” I replied evenly, wanting her to get the hell out of my face.
“Either Mikael will finish you off, or Theo Stone will, for daring to tell such lies about his future wife.”
I needed a moment to process what this chick had just said, but when it hit me, something inside of me completely flipped.
I made an attempt to get up, causing the chains around my wrists to stretch, making a ringing sound, and digging into my skin. The only thing saving the little bitch in front of me is that I’m chained to this bed.
She jumped back like a frightened dog.
“Repeat what you just said,” I said through gritted teeth. If looks could kill, this bitch would already be six feet under.
“Theo Stone will come for your head once he hears about the lies you’re spreading about his future wife,” she said, her voice rising, cutting deeper into me with every word.
“About Allyn.”
