Chapter Fifteen

It’s half past ten when I walk back through the door, coffee and pastries in hand just in case anyone questions my absence. Serena and Grayson sit at the kitchen island talking like they have known one another since childhood. It’s as if he’s always been a part of her life the way Wyhtt and I have been. Watching from the doorway, Grayson throws his head back in laughter while she shakes her head.

“What’s so funny?” I ask, placing the food on the counter. “Already have inside jokes with each other? It hasn’t even been twenty-four hours.” I tease before sweeping Serena into a hug from behind. “Good morning, Serenity.” I say into her hair, taking a deep breath of her sea salt and sage scent. She tenses for a moment, but soon relaxes and allows my hug to last longer than I expected.

“Coffee?” Serena asks, pulling out of my grasp.

“French vanilla, iced, whole milk, and sugar.” I reply, trying not to sound too smug.

“You remember my coffee order?” She questions, raising an eyebrow.

“Well, I think that order is engraved into Wyhtt and I’s skulls. It was the only way to keep you happy on early mornings.” I grin as she sticks out her tongue, remembering the feeling of her tongue on me years ago . . . remembering everything she made me feel. I shift on my feet, trying not to get hard.

Wyhtt bounds down the hallway. The man has the nose of a blood hound, he always knows when the food arrives.

“Who’s ready for a beach day, my sluts?” He asks loudly before grabbing a cheese Danish and shoving most of it into his mouth.

“Good morning, Wyhtt. Coffee?” I offer.

“Don’t give it caffeine!” Grayson complains, snagging his cup of black coffee. No cream, no sugar, just simple black coffee. Jokingly, Wyhtt—mouth full of Danish—kisses Grayson’s cheek, which starts an all-out wrestling match.

“Is this pretty common between them?” Serena inquires, sipping at her iced coffee and swinging her feet from the chair.

“Yep.” I answer, biting into a blueberry muffin. Serena and I watch in amusement until she gets bored. She rolls her eyes before yelling for Wyhtt like a goddamn dog in her most commanding voice. Not twenty seconds later, he’s by her side.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Grayson spits.

“Oh, is someone jealous?” Serena playfully sticks her lower lip out in a pout before bursting into laughter.

I announce my leave in order to get changed, which gets ignored by their bickering. When I reappear, everyone seems to have calmed down and looks ready for our day on the beach.
