Chapter Twenty-Two

Jensen had been at my door, the loud creaking from the old wooden floors told me as much. In the moment, I had expected him to knock or sneak in for maybe one more kiss or a stolen second, but instead he had chosen to return to his room.

I’m restless.

His touch had been like fire, the flames licking up my entire body under the pier as something within me reawakened. Knowing I won’t be sleeping anytime soon—and not ready for my night to end completely—I opt to leave Jensen alone. I shoot off a text in hopes maybe Wyhtt is awake in his room.

You up?

Who isn’t up after one of you was loud as fuck when you got home…

I am going to blame Jensen

What a shock, now go to bed.

Nooooo… Come watch a movie with me.

Absolutely not. I’m already taking you into town in the morning to go shopping. I am going back to bed.

PLEEAASSSEE

No

Go harass Jensen, isn’t that the whole point of him bringing your ass down here?

He is showering, I don’t want to bother him.

If he is showering that means he is still awake, unlike me who is currently attempting to go back to sleep.

What if he gets annoyed? We spent the whole evening together. He might want some space, which is why I am texting you, lol.

First of all, it feels great to be your second choice of friends to hang out with currently…

Second of all, since when the fuck have you cared if you annoy him, me, or literally anyone else around you?

……

What happened?

We may have kissed.

Well, I may have kissed him.

Nope, I don’t want to hear this tonight. I am going to bed.

Wyhtttttttt

No. Don’t make it weird though. Just go watch a fucking movie with him and leave me alone, it’s almost three in the morning. Goodnight

Fine, goodnight. I am pouting though

What’s new?

Rolling my eyes, I decide to wait a few more minutes before rolling out of bed and crossing the hall to Jensen’s room. I knock, doubting he can hear me while in the shower. When no answer comes, I peek my head through the door before fully stepping in.

The room is almost as I remember, almost entirely unchanged from the last time I was here ten years ago. Along with a fresh coat of paint, only a few slight changes have been made. His punching bag still hangs torn to shreds in the back corner, and his bed sits across from his TV stand. I walk the length of his room, snooping as I go. Making my way to his bed, I trace the edge of the wooden nightstand with my fingertips, finding the remote.

For a brief second, I consider turning the TV on while I wait, but instead I simply plop onto his bed and prop my feet up. Making myself comfortable, I start to wonder what’s taking him so long in the shower when I hear a grunt, followed by a low moan, thus answering my curiosity in full.

Before I can make my getaway, the shower stops. No escaping now, I think. I brace myself for the funny and somewhat awkward encounter that’s about to occur. Footsteps grow closer before the door opens and steam rolls through the door in waves as soaked, naked Jensen walks out with a towel slung low on his hips.

“Hi.” I say, despite my efforts to keep my voice level, the words come out unsteady. Shocked eyes meet mine before I grin, taking in the view standing in front of me.
