Chapter 11

Fun At Mine

Reminisce

I sendoff an email while I wait for Sunny to arrive. She called my office to ask if I was up for lunch and some shopping. I wrapped up a few cases early, so I had some time and figured, why not.

I take a sip of my water, then place my glass down and start to absentmindedly rub my fingertip over the rim of my glass. I get lost in thought about Knight. It’s weird how I’ve gotten so used to him being in my space.

This morning when I woke in his arms, it felt like exactly where I belonged. I felt safe. I had to tell myself it was all an illusion.

One I’m allowing myself to believe for now. It will come back to bite me later. I know it will, but for now as always, I’m too far under his spell to walk away just yet. It’s like taking a hit of a drug you know isn’t good for you but needing to have just one taste to hold you over.

“Good morning,” Knight breathed as I opened my eyes and looked up at him.

I snuggled closer to his warmth and placed a kiss on his chest. My way of saying good morning without blowing my morning breath on him. He leaned in to kiss my forehead and tugged me in closer, holding me securely in his warm embrace as if not wanting to let me go.

I closed my eyes and basked in the moment. Being pressed against his naked body felt right. If I didn’t have to go to work, I would have remained there all day.

“Girl, I’m so sorry. I got caught in traffic,” Sunny says, grabbing my attention and pulling me from my thoughts of this morning.

I look up to find her moving toward me in a cute sundress. She looks great as usual. Sunny is Black girl magic on any day of the week. Her brown skin always has a glow, and her smile is infectious.

We became fast friends because of that welcoming smile. Her parents gave her the perfect name. She brings the sun with her.

I stand and pull her into a hug. Some girls’ time will do me good this week. Spending time with Sunny will keep me from thinking about Knight.

“Oh my God, you’re glowing. I can’t ignore this all day. No wonder you were willing to have lunch with me and go shopping. Your ass has fallen back into Knight’s bed. I know that look when I see it,” Sunny says blowing up my last thought.

“Oh, hush up and mind your business,” I hiss, keeping a smile on my face to take out the sting of my words as I release her. “I had an opening in my schedule. Your timing was perfect. That’s why I’m here.”

“Mm-hmm. Sure. So you haven’t hooked up with Knight after that blind date?”

“This place has some great chicken salad. I’ll probably get the wrap,” I say as I return to my seat.

Sunny puts her purse down and takes her seat across from me. I pick up my menu and start to browse it. I hope she’ll take the hint. I don’t want to talk about Knight.

“So that’s how we’re going to play it?” she says crossing her arms over her chest.

“Oh, I love their gyros too.”

“Be like that if you want. I’m still team Knight anyway. You’re always happier when you two are messing around. I love him for you.”

I sigh. “Sunny, the purpose of a redirect is to change the topic. Not begin a one-sided conversation about it. Knight and I are family. We shouldn’t get involved.”

“Yet, you’re fucking him again. Honey, I’m here to tell you that excuse is lame. I saw the chemistry between the two of you. Maybe this time you can let yourself go and be happy.

“Stop fighting what your heart wants. He’s good for you. Be good to yourself.”

Thank God our waitress comes over, so I don’t have to reply. Sunny is the only person who knows about me and Knight. She’s always questioned why we aren’t more.

However, this is the first time she’s called bullshit on the in-law excuse. I guess watching me trudge around lonely for the last year has placed some truth serum into her water.

“I’ll have the lamb and chicken gyro. Thank you,” I say to the waitress.

“Can I have the same and a mimosa. As a matter of fact. Make that two, I’m not drinking by myself,” Sunny says and hands over her menu.

“I’ll get that order in, and I’ll bring your drinks right out,” the waitress says before she takes off.

Before Sunny can start to grill me again, I get a text from Knight. I look down at my phone with a grin on my lips. He went home yesterday and returned with a bigger bag to stay over.

A few of my things were missing from my closet this morning. I get the feeling he took them to his place for me to stay at his. I haven’t asked because I don’t want to dig into what that all means.

Knight:I’m making fajitas and margaritas tonight. I got board games and Netflix is waiting at mine. It will be fun.

Me: I have court tomorrow afternoon.

Knight: Which is why we’re staying the night at my place. I’ll pick you up later.

I don’t miss that he’s not asking. He’s telling me what’s going to happen. It’s sort of a turn on if I’m honest. He’s been doing that more lately.

“See, that smile is only getting wider. I got my money on Knight. Boy has game.

“We should totally double date soon. I’ll see when Jamel is free. You’re not allowed to back out either.”

“Whatever. What are you shopping for again?”

She rolls her eyes at me. I shrug and place my napkin in my lap. Looking at my nails, I try to figure out if I have time to get a mani-pedi before I need to be back in the office.

I might have some time. My mind goes to how Knight had my toes in his mouth last night as he plowed into me. My eyes nearly cross from the memory.

That man makes everything sexy. The way he connected eyes with me while giving me that intense look. I bite my lip. Yup, I’m going to make time to get my nails and toes done.

“Jamel is taking me on a trip to Venice for a week. I’m trying to find a few cute outfits,” she says, pulling me from my nasty thoughts.

“This should be fun.”

Knight

I haven’t beenable to stop smiling since we left Reminisce’s office this evening. I wanted to spend the night at my place. I brought some of her things here, so she doesn’t have an excuse for needing to leave. I thought she would put up a fight, but she was ready to head to my place when I arrived.

Her words brought a smile to my face. “I’m ready for those margaritas,” she purred as she grabbed her purse, ready to leave.

As soon as we got in, I went to work on dinner. She went to my room to shower and change. I was happy to see her in the satin shorts and tank top I brought over from her place.

Her cute little toes got my attention right away. They were pink when she left this morning, now they’re light blue. I plan to have them in my mouth before the night is over.

Now she’s sitting on my couch with a smile on her lips and a drink in her hand. I think we’re both too full to move. The most I can manage is to lie on my back and stare up at the ceiling.

I groan and pat my belly. Fajita and margarita night turned out to be a hit. I’ll have to remember that for the future.

I bend my leg and begin to rock it back and forth as if that will digest my food faster. Rem moves her foot to place her toes on my knee and starts to move the leg for me. My smile grows as her ankle bracelet comes into view.

A bracelet I remember giving her some years back. That was a good night. She had no clue I’d even put it there until after the third orgasm.

I chuckle at the memory of her eyes going wide as I sucked on her toes as the diamonds twinkled back at her. It always brings me such pleasure to shower her with gifts. I’ll have to get her something soon.

“Have you been to see the boys yet?” she asks bringing me from my musing.

“No, I was waiting to make sure whatever that bug was is completely out of my system. I plan to head over next week. When I talked to Bishop, he said it’s been busy over there this week,” I reply.

“Sounds about right. Saga said the same.”

“I thought things would die down after the last tour. However, they both seem to have more on their plates, but they make it work,” I say.

“I love how they complement each other. You would never know they’re always so busy, they balance each other and having the boys so well,” she says.

“Yeah, they really do. The last two years has brought on a lot for them. I wouldn’t have thought they’ve only been together for two years.”

“You’re telling me. I’m still in awe of Saga. I would never have thought she’d jump on a bus and marry some guy she just met.”

“Why not?”

“She’s the cautious one. Saga has always played by the rules. Daddy always got what he wanted when it came to Saga.”

“And you? What do you think your father would say if you brought me home?”

“First of all, that’s not going to happen,” she snorts.

“Why?”

“Your brother is married to my sister. That’s why.”

I roll my eyes and place my arms beneath my head. I’m getting tired of hearing that one. She’s making it seem like we weren’t a thing before Saga and Bishop.

Four years ago, my brother didn’t know Saga existed. That shouldn’t be a reason for us not to be together. We’re in-laws, not real siblings. Heck, I’d be more willing to go with her reasoning if we were stepsiblings. My brother and her sister being married shouldn’t get in the way of what I want us to have.

“Be honest. If you took me home, do you think that would be a problem?”

“Knight, haven’t we done this before,” she huffs.

“Things have changed. I want your honest answer now.”

She sighs heavily. “Like I said before, Daddy has a certain type he wanted me and Saga to marry. No, I don’t think you’re that type.”

“Because I’m white?”

“You’re putting words in my mouth. Let’s find something to watch. I was getting into a vibe,” she says changing the subject.

I let it slide because I don’t want to fight with her. We were having a nice time before that question. I reach for the remote and turn the TV on.

“Would you want to have kids as soon as Saga and Bishop did? Or are you thinking about waiting?” I blurt the words out before I can think better of them.

“I’d have to find someone to have kids with, but I don’t want to wait too long. I think I’m ready to be a mom. I wouldn’t mind starting right away,” she says.

My heart and my cock swell. I want to be the one to give her those babies. I should be the one to give her that.

I stop asking questions because I’m getting upset that she’s placing that wall between us. I know it will take time to make it crumble, so I call on my patience. All she needs is to see I can be everything she wants.

I think of our past and why she’s like this. I regret the way we came together, but I will never regret coming together. If I could erase her fears, I would.

“Oh, that looks good, let’s watch that,” she calls breaking into my thoughts as I flip through titles.

I nod and click on the show she’s talking about. Then, I move to sit on the couch beside her. All my frustration fades away as she leans her head on my chest and snuggles in closer to me.

I’ve been patient all these years. I can do it for a little longer. Rem has no idea how long I’ve been crazy about her. I’m in this for the long game.
