Calming Drinks
Reminisce
“Unbelievable… Right here, you admit to your wrong,” I say to myself as I circle the statement in red.
I rub the back of my neck as I read over the documents in front of me. There’s always something. It’s like people make up their own rules and then get mad when they get caught violating someone else’s IP.
So many times, I’ve had clients watch and wait for the stolen work to make money before they have me swoop in. After all, who wants to pay me to go after nothing. I sigh and squeeze at the building tension in my neck.
A knock sounds on my office door, causing me to look up. I find my sister standing in the doorway. I’m not expecting her, so I’m a bit confused to see her here.
I’ve been trying to get through these documents before Knight shows up to take me home. I place my pen down and look at the clock. I’ve missed lunch.
I kept telling myself one more page. My stomach rumbles in protest, demanding I get my butt up and find something to eat.
“I hate to bother you, I just needed to get out of the house and clear my head. You have a minute?” Saga says as she steps inside.
“For my big sister, of course. You want to join me for lunch?”
“Sure, my treat.”
“Cool, let me close things up here, and I’ll be right with you. Was Mike at his desk?”
“He was on the phone,” she says.
I roll my eyes. I swear he picks and chooses who to announce. However, looking more closely at my sister’s face, I’m glad he did let her come on through.
Picking up the pace, I put the files away and grab my purse from the drawer. I pull Saga into a hug as I get to the doorway. She sags into me, and I know something is wrong.
“Everything okay?” I ask.
She shakes her head, but no words come out. Wrapping my arm around her shoulders, I lead her out of my office. I hate seeing my big sister upset.
“Mike, I’ll be back in an hour. I’ll call if anything changes,” I say as we walk by his desk.
He waves and nods. I hold onto my sister and wait to pry into what’s going on. Afternoon drinks might be in order.
We make our way to my favorite bar and grill and are seated right away. I stare at Saga as she holds her gaze down on the menu before her. She looks lost for a moment. I can’t imagine what has her like this.
“I’m going to tell you this because you’re my sister. I’m not ready to say anything to anyone else because I’m not sure of the facts. I’m trying not to jump to conclusions, because if I’m wrong, Bishop will be devastated that I gave up on him.
“I’m not giving up. I … I just need to process what’s going on. Tabloids are one thing. This is something else.”
“Saga, what’s going on? You’re scaring me.”
“You remember the woman I was telling you about? The one the band brought in to work with Bishop on a few songs.”
“Yeah, what about her?”
“She approached me today while the band was warming up. She mentioned something Bishop and I haven’t discussed outside the two of us as if he’s been pillow talking with her. My first thought was to go off on Bishop, but something told me to calm down first, so I came to you,” she explains.
“Is there any way she could have found out about it any other way?”
She blows out a breath and knits her brows. Then she shakes her head. My heart sinks. My brother-in-law has always come off as such a good guy, and he loves my sister more than anything. I’m having a hard time thinking he could ever step out on her.
“I don’t think so. We haven’t told anyone, but we’ve been trying to have another baby, but it’s not happening as easily as having the boys. I’ve been a little depressed about it. Bishop says I shouldn’t worry so much. It will happen when it’s supposed to.”
She pauses and licks her lips. “Why would he share something like that with her of all people? How could he break my trust like that? I want to believe something else is going on, but …”
“Listen to me. Take a deep breath. I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for this. First, you need to talk to your husband. Then, we need that heifer fired and away from your life and family.
“Next, you and I need to go on a little spa vacation so you can be pampered. Once you relax and chill for a bit without running campaigns and keeping your husband’s social media going, you will be pregnant in no time.
“You talk to Bishop when you get home. I’ll handle booking our vacation. Maybe Isha and Sunny would like to come along, and we can make it a girls’ trip.”
“I’d like that.”
“Good, I’m sure Mom and Dad would love a weekend with their little munchkins. It’s all going to work out. You’ll see.”
She looks up into my eyes. “Thanks, Rem.”
“Anytime, Saga. Nobody is going to come between my favorite couple. You and Bishop belong together.”
“How are things going with Knight?”
I can’t help the smile that breaks across my face. “Things have been going great with Knight. I’ve been making progress with the yoga classes as well.”
“And the therapist? Have you started sessions yet?”
“We’ve talked on the phone a few times. I’m going to go into her office soon.”
“Good.”
“I’m going to have a few drinks. You going to join me?”
“Of course. I said I wanted to clear my head, didn’t I?”
“That you did. Let’s go with the jumbo margaritas then, shall we?”

Knight
I’min Reminisce’s law office in the reception area waiting for her to show up. I have some lamb marinating at the house for dinner and a bottle of her favorite wine chilling. I was hoping we could have a romantic dinner tonight.
I let Mike go home about an hour ago. There was no point in him waiting around here with me. Once Rem arrives, I’m sure she would let him go for the night anyway.
I hear the sound of the elevator chiming, and moments later the door opens, causing me to lift my head from my phone. My brother has been losing his shit all day wondering where his wife is. The family has a group text going for updates.
Someone’s going to lose their job today. Saga has her own security which she apparently ducked out on. Bishop sounded like his head was going to explode.
“Hey, you,” Rem slurs as she and Saga stumble into the office.
“Are you guys both drunk?”
“Well duh,” Saga sings.
“Those margaritas were so good though,” Rem says.
I pinch the bridge of my nose and shake my head. Mike told me Reminisce called to let him know she wouldn’t be back to the office until late. I had no idea the reason was because she was out getting shitfaced.
We all thought something might have happened to Saga. The last thing I was expecting was for her to stroll in here drunk off her ass with my girl. They burst into laughter as Saga leans into Rem and whispers something to her.
I shake my head at the two as they laugh their asses off at whatever they think is so damn funny. I pull my phone out to text Bishop and let him know I have Saga and I’m going to drop her home. I don’t know what is going on with them, but I wouldn’t feel right not getting her home safely. Saga walks over and pokes me in the chest.
“You better not be texting your brother. I’m not speaking to him right now, and I don’t want him knowing where I am,” she says drunkenly.
“Saga, sweetheart, your husband is worried sick about you. I’m just letting him know you’re safe.”
“Oh my God, he’s worried?” she says, truly looking concerned. Then she turns to face Rem. “Oh no, Rem. I didn’t want him to worry. What if I’m wrong? He already has so much on his shoulders with the album and our thing.
“I should go home. I think I’m ready to talk to him. I hope we can work things out. I love my husband. I would hate to have to kill him in his sleep.”
I lift a brow as the two burst into laughter. Clearly, I’m missing the inside joke. “Okay, ladies. Let me get you two home. Nobody’s killing anyone in their sleep.”
They continue to snicker as they fall into each other. I have to purse my lips to keep from laughing. Putting my phone away, I then usher them out of the office to head for my car.
The two are roasted and giggling like two teenagers. They’re cute, but annoying at the same time. Tripping over themselves, singing at the top of their lungs, and laughing like maniacs.
I have to wrangle them in as Saga tries to take off and Reminisce decides to follow. Bishop owes me big time after this one. This isn’t what I signed up for.
I’m happy to have the two in the car and strapped in so I can get them home. I head for my brother’s as he sends text after text with questions I can’t answer while I’m driving.
“Oh, we should listen to some music,” Rem coos and turns on the radio.
They begin to sing along to the song playing. I can’t help but smile. I’m going to have fun rubbing this in tomorrow. Soon, I’m left alone with my thoughts as the two fall fast asleep.
They must have had a lot to drink or they were putting the heavy stuff inside those margaritas. Reminisce usually holds her liquor much better than this. I’ll have to postpone our romantic dinner for another night.
When I pull into Bishop’s driveway, I find him pacing back and forth in front of the house. He looks like he’s ready to pull his hair out. It’s loose around his shoulders and looks like he’s been running his hands through it.
I pull up in front of the house, and I get ready to park to get out of the car and help him get Saga inside, but Bishop has the door ripped open to scoop his wife out before I can shift gears. I step out of the car, but he doesn’t even take a glance back.
“Thanks, I’ll call you in the morning,” he calls over his shoulder as he walks into the house with Saga in his arms.
“I guess I’m done here,” I mutter and climb back into the car.
“Your brother better not break my sister’s heart,” Rem mutters.
I look over at her, and her eyes are still closed. She groans and shifts around in her seat. I get the feeling she’s talking in her sleep.
“They have to work this out. I believe in love because of them. I want to love you because of them. If my big sister can do it, so can I. I can love you, Knight. I’m trying to love you,” she says bringing a smile to my face.
I lean across the seat and kiss her forehead. She snuggles deeper into the seat and sighs. Not the way I want her to tell me she loves me, but in this moment, I’d be lying if I said my heart wasn’t full.
“I want to love you too,” I say in her ear.
I stare at her for a while before turning the car on and heading to her place. I’m getting closer to what I want. I hope Bishop can fix whatever’s going on if it means I have a shot.
“Oh God, I’m going to have such a hangover,” she groans and throws an arm over her face.
“And I’ll be here to take care of you,” I say and pull off.
