Shaw’s New Chapter
Jordy Shaw got married but only wants to talk about libraries.
Jordy Shaw became the talk of the internet earlier this week after fans spotted the brand-new gold band on his ring finger, just ten weeks after the appearance of viral photos of his rumored-to-be boyfriend attending an Orcas game with a sign proclaiming to be the team’s newest fan.
The boyfriend, Rowan no previous surname name given, is not a fellow hockey player for a change and in fact isn’t even a hockey fan, and his only claim to internet fame is being spotted with or near Shaw in posted photos. (See gallery of photos here.)
When asked during a postpractice media scrum about the new jewelry, Shaw grinned and confirmed that he and his partner got married last week, but offered little by way of details when pressed. The ceremony was small and private, and everyone in their lives is happy for them, he said.
Shaw did offer up one detail about his new spouse, beyond his married name of Rowan Shaw, that is—they met at the library.
“Rowan’s a librarian, and he was working at the branch in Toronto where I brought my daughter. The two of them hit it off immediately.”
This announcement ended Shaw’s reminiscence about his new marriage and his husband.
“Did you know that libraries are an integral part of our society? They’re amazing places that bring so much more to communities than just books—though bringing books is a very important service.”
His passionate defense of public libraries drew in listeners and refocused the conversation, though the discussion did not read like a manipulation to distract so much as an enthusiastic interest.
“He’ll probably get the whole team talked into some sort of outreach or charitable campaign. I can’t wait,” Captain Ryan Wright agreed when asked about his thoughts on the benefits of public library systems. “Maybe another player will find a future spouse there to check out,” he added cheekily.
Though Rowan Shaw might be a husband of mystery, the couple’s mutual love of learning and community clearly isn’t.
