Epilogue

One Year Later

“Maddox, seriously? We’re going to be late for our reservation,” Ciara grumbled.

In true Maddox fashion, he ignored her complaint and pulled her further away from what she thought their destination was.

The past twelve months had been unbelievable. Taking a chance on Maddox had been the best decision she’d ever made. Every day he convinced her to open her heart a little more, and he gave her every bit of his in return.

What sealed the deal was that he loved her nieces and nephew unconditionally. Even Benny had warmed up to him. It didn’t hurt that Maddox loved to do all of the “manly” things that her nephew enjoyed.

Maddox also made carrying the load a lot easier. He’d jumped in with total commitment. The most recent move was him starting a new job in Philly and relocating closer to her and the kids.

She’d met his family and she’d introduced him to hers. His family was a lot larger and louder than hers but she wouldn’t change anything about them. Nor would Maddox. While he might have complained about having to help take care for his siblings growing up there was no denying that they had a close relationship. All of them had drawn her, Nadia, Benny and Rachel in and held them close.

Maddox always kept her on her toes. He’d recently surprised her by letting her know they would be returning to Nosy Be for their annual weekly vacation. The only difference is they would do it as a couple this time.

Her thoughts came to a jarring halt as she took in the scene before her. Candles lined the sand in the shape of a giant heart. A table sat nearby with a bucket and a bottle of champagne sticking out of it.

Somehow, her feet kept moving as she took it all in. Maddox got down on one knee once they were in the center of the heart.

“Yes!” she screamed as soon as she realized what he was about to do.

He laughed at her. “I believe you’re supposed to let me get the ring out and ask the question first.”

She sunk down to her knees in front of him. “I love you. I don’t need a fancy proposal. All I need is you. Every day you show me how lucky I am to have a man like you in my life. So my answer is yes. Now, give me my ring.”

Maddox laughed again as he pulled the box out of his pocket. “I love you, Ciara. Marry me.”

“Yes!” she screamed again.

Once, he placed the ring on her finger. She launched herself at him. Maddox was the best thing that had ever happened to her. She couldn’t wait to get started on the next chapter of their life.
