Epilogue

18 MONTHS LATER: SIENNA

When our lips touch, it is the happiest moment of my life.

Reece puts his hands on my waist, and I smile into his mouth, desperate to kiss him harder, deeper. But everyone is watching us, so we break away quickly, then grin at the faces of all of our friends and family.

Gramma has always said that she would be happy with me no matter what I do, no matter what I choose, if I want to marry or not. Whatever I wanted to do with my job, my life, she would have supported me happily. And she would have. I know this, but I am glad that she’s here to see my wedding day.

Reece takes my hand, and we walk down the aisle. Gramma is in floods of tears, smiling the widest I’ve ever seen her smile. Our daughter sits on her lap, not paying any attention to the world around her at all.

She’s only a year old, so there’s no way she’ll remember it, but I’m happy to have her here on my big day. We named her Sally after my mother. It felt right.

Reece blows her a kiss as we pass, and Sally doesn’t even notice. I giggle, squeezing his hand.

From the moment he got down on his knees in front of me at the hospital to this day, he has been the Reece that I fell in love with all those months ago. He doesn’t speak to any of his city friends anymore, and he’s stopped pretending that he has to be a person he doesn’t want to be.

When he took me out to Silver Lake, to the exact spot where we fell in love, that’s when he proved to me without a doubt that this was for real. It’s like he’s found something inside himself that had just been waiting to bloom.

I love him more with each passing day, and he tells me the same too.

And though we both work at Silverbell General, we hardly ever see each other there. Occasionally, I look after one of his patients, but he tries to stay on the surgery side of things as much as possible. That, and he’s busy with the administrative side of ownership.

He has a lot to do, and we figure it’s healthier for us if we aren’t constantly seeing each other all day, every day. It makes coming home to each other more special.

The novelty of him being here hasn’t worn off yet.

I’m not sure it ever will.

Giselle grins as she follows us out. “You guys are so cute,” she says, pressing her hands to her chest, miming swooning.

I never would have believed it when he first arrived, almost two years ago now, but he’s mine now.

All mine.

I glance down at the ring on my finger, then I look at Reece. His eyes are shining.

“Are you okay?” I whisper.

He nods. “Never better. You know I love you, right?”

“I think you’ve said it once or twice.”

“Only once or twice? Guess I have to say it’s seven or eight more times then. That way, you’ll remember.”

“I’m not planning to be forgetful.”

He shrugs. “I was going to prove to you how much I love you tonight.”

“Oh yeah,” I smirk, teasing. “Just tonight? So I’m going to be sitting quietly and unloved for all the rest of our honeymoon?”

He turns to face me. “I would never do that to you, my love.” He kisses me, then leans in to whisper into my ear, “How about making a sibling for Sally?”

I grab him to kiss him again — and say nothing. I don’t have to. My smile says it all. Small-town life in Silverbell is better than ever.
