Chapter Twenty-Three

Oleander

Ilook into the Fae’s big blue eyes, his curls plastered to his head. He could be a water, I think. The barracks of a rival family seem like the perfect place to hide.

My hand hovers, ready to poison him.

Several things happen right on top of each other.

I catch a gleam of a small blade in this Fae’s hand.

“They all died!” Lonan screams.

Lilac’s body slams into me, knocking me from on top of the guard and knocking the wind out of me.

My shoulder is wrenched violently as my body is lifted.

My chest stutters as I try to draw air in, as I try to scream. My other hand lifts and I hit at Vale’s claw angrily as my legs kick futilely.

No. No, he can’t take me away.

Lilac.

My lungs fill.

“LILAC! Lilac! Lilac!”
