Chapter Ten
Toxic
E den sent a text to Liv and Sophia, letting them know that she was safe, home, and that she was tired and needed to think. She knew sending a text like that would garner attention. In some way, Eden wanted the attention. Finding herself alone in her apartment once again did not sit well with her. Yet the images of the motorcycle club clubhouse felt as though they would haunt her for life.
She had already thrown up, which she diagnosed as a rush of adrenaline. Or the come down from the intense adrenaline high she had been handling all night and day from the second those gates shut behind her and she was trapped with the members of Sins of Fire Real Anarchy West.
An actual group of bikers! More than a group. They’re… they are something. Real. Scary. Powerful. Yet somehow important.
When Eden felt her stomach aching once more she walked to a window, with the intentions of opening it to get some fresh air. What she didn’t expect to see were the two bikers who escorted her home still sitting there.
Two massive motorcycles taking up one and a half parking spots.
She knew their names.
Drix and Dolph.
Drix stood tall, lean, a white T-shirt under his leather cut, arms with tattoos, looking like a dream. Dolph had the appearance of a bodybuilder. A massive chunk of muscle with a scowl on his face and black sunglasses.
“Really?” Eden whispered. “Did Priest tell them to stay?”
For a moment she thought maybe the gesture from Priest was sweet. Then she thought about the sight of seeing Priest fucking that woman. That random biker whore. And then the fact that Eden herself had been only seconds away from offering her mouth to Priest…
Heat flooded her body.
A wild thought attacked her.
What if I let Drix come up here and fuck me the way Priest fucked that woman?
At that exact moment, Drix looked up at Eden’s window. She yelped and jumped back, almost tripping.
“Fuck!” Eden cried out.
She hugged herself, ran to her bedroom and climbed into bed, then pulled the covers over her head to hide from the world. Her eyes shut and she didn’t care when they’d open again.
If there were bikers outside her apartment there to protect her, at least she could get some decent sleep.
Eden managed to keep the biker protection a secret for a few days. Drix and Dolph were everywhere she was. Watching her apartment. Following her anywhere she went.
Even when Eden worked an extra shift, they followed her to the hospital and spent the entire time there. At one point security had to get involved because Dolph used the men’s restroom and messed up one of the toilets. Not to mention the toxic smell that worked its way into the lobby. It was so strong that the receptionists wondered if there was some kind of gas leak in the building.
When security tried to kick Dolph out, Drix faked stomach pains, begging for help, saying he felt like his appendix was rupturing. That got security off their backs.
The story cycled throughout the entire hospital, right up to Eden, when a gossipy coworker named Willow told Eden the story. As soon as she finished talking, Eden got into Willow’s face and told her to keep her fucking mouth shut and go help someone. Willow stormed off, looking ready to cry.
“Wow, where did that come from?”
Eden looked back and saw one of the more veteran nurses nodding in approval.
“I’m not in the mood right now,” Eden said.
“Good for you,” the nurse said. “I’ll stay out of your way.”
She winked and walked away. Eden touched her own forehead, sighing. She felt bad. She felt annoyed.
Realizing she opened this can of worms by going to see Priest to begin with. Yet at the same time she really had no choice. What was the plan? Wait for Cody to really hurt her? Kidnap her? Kill her…?
Eden took comfort in the fact that Priest did send two guys to keep an eye on her.
She finished her shift and left the hospital to find Drix and Dolph waiting for her at her car. They were close enough to help if something were to happen but far enough away that they never spoke to one another.
When Eden arrived home, she showered, had a glass of wine, and then received the warning text from Liv.
WE ARE ON OUR WAY!
Eden smiled. She figured sooner than later she’d have to face Liv and Sophia. Sophia showed up. Alone.
“Where’s Liv?” Eden asked.
“Oh, I don’t know. She might be working on her taxes. Volunteering at an animal shelter. Trying to dry hump one of the bikers waiting outside your apartment.”
Eden jumped up. “No.”
“What the hell is going on? Why…”
Eden ignored Sophia and rushed outside to gather up Liv. She found her standing in between Drix and Dolph. The bikers sat on their motorcycles and Liv stroked one handlebar on each motorcycle. She tossed her hair side to side and back. Rocking her hips, almost as though she was dancing but there was no music playing.
“Olivia Dorothea,” Eden said, knowing how much Liv hated her middle name.
Liv turned and her eyes went wide.
“Inside,” Eden ordered like an angry, protective mother. “Right now.”
“I want to stay outside and play, Mom ,” Liv said.
“I’m not joking,” Eden growled through gritted teeth. “ NOW. ”
Liv stomped away from Drix and Dolph and pushed by Eden to go inside.
Eden pointed at the bikers. “Hands off!”
Drix and Dolph both started to chuckle. Eden chased Liv into the apartment, shut the door and locked it.
“You have no idea what you’re doing, Liv,” Eden yelled.
“And you do?” Liv asked. “You’re a biker expert?”
“Why are those two guys out there?” Sophia asked. “What is happening to you?”
Eden didn’t answer right away.
Liv put her hand into the air. “I can guess.”
“No, you can’t,” Eden said. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Oh, you’re talking about it,” Sophia said. “Those men out there are dangerous.”
“God, they’re so fucking hot,” Liv groaned. “I’d let both at the same time fuck me.”
“Olivia Dorothea!” Eden cried out.
“Sorry,” Liv said. “I didn’t say that. You didn’t hear that.”
“Eden, seriously though,” Sophia said in a soft voice.
Eden walked by her friends, plopped down on the couch and reached for her glass of wine. She stared forward, took a deep breath, and spilled the story. Not the entire story. Not the gritty details. But enough that both Liv and Sophia’s jaws were dropped.
Liv actually stole Eden’s wineglass and took a sip. She handed it to Sophia, who downed the rest of the wine.
“You spent the night at their clubhouse,” Liv said. “And you lived to tell the story. Wait. Did you sleep with him?”
“No,” Eden said with confidence. “Not even close.”
“So this is about Cody,” Sophia said. “And that’s the price for this protection?”
“Her ass,” Liv said.
“No,” Eden said.
“You’re in big trouble, Eden,” Sophia said. “This is serious stuff. These guys are for real, aren’t they? This isn’t some show.”
“I have no fucking choice!” Eden yelled at Sophia.
Sophia swallowed hard. She looked ready to cry. Everyone fell silent. Seconds ticked by.
“Can I just let one of them fuck me?” Liv asked, breaking the tension.
“ NO !” both Eden and Sophia yelled.
“I’m sorry for yelling,” Eden said. “But this is my business right now. This is something I have to handle. I’m terrified of what Cody will do next. I don’t want to live like this. This isn’t some fantasy for me. This is real. Being at that clubhouse was scary. It was real. It was nothing like a show. Okay?”
Liv moved closer to Eden and reached for her hand. “Serious question. Is Priest going to kill Cody?”
“I’m not sure,” Eden said.
Sophia gasped, coughed, and ran to the kitchen to throw up the wine she chugged.
Yeah, Eden thought, it’s real and it’s fucking scary, isn’t it?
