Chapter Sixteen
Pack a Bag, Don’t Forget Your Shoes
A bunch of bikers suddenly showed up to Eden’s apartment. The place she called home was now swarming with men in leather cuts, dirty jeans, black boots, and the smell of whiskey, cigarette smoke, and a woman’s cheap perfume.
Eden remained huddled up on the couch in an unfair position since she was completely naked from the waist down and she still wasn’t wearing a bra.
A couple of the bikers she recognized.
Linc. Slade.
A couple she did not recognize.
Behind the SOFRAW members appeared Nova and Mara. Both weren’t exactly thrilled to be pulled into this particular situation, but they were both understanding and knew that when the club needed their men, it was time to fall in line.
For Eden, all she saw were two strangers approaching her. Two very pretty women. One of which was pregnant.
“This is crazy, I know,” Nova said to Eden and then she introduced herself. “And the pregnant one is Mara. You can ask her about her life if you really want to get into crazy stuff.”
“What’s so crazy about my life?” Mara asked. “I was married to a member who turned rat so I started fucking another member and he got me pregnant.”
Eden let out a nervous laugh.
“Are you naked under that blanket?” Nova asked.
“Sort of,” Eden whispered.
“Priest,” Mara said, shaking her head. “You fell for his games, huh? No judgement here. These men have a power to them. You’d think for the way they look and even smell it would make us run like hell. I think secretly all women want someone who is rough and raw.”
“Congrats on the pregnancy,” Eden said, desperate to shift the conversation, which felt impossible to do considering her dead ex was in the other room.
Something bad was happening too. Priest found something out about Cody that angered him to the point of calling some of the bikers over.
“So you’re the nurse who saved Priest, huh?” Nova asked.
“Saved is a stretch,” Eden said. “I was just there. Monitoring him. That’s all.”
“Yeah, and I bet you took a peak at that cock of his and decided you wanted to try it,” Mara smiled. “Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.”
“Not me,” Nova said. “I’ve never seen it.”
“Well, that makes two of us right here who have seen it,” Mara said. “And only one who has fucked it.”
Eden’s face turned red-hot. The outlaws all walked out of the bedroom.
“We can take care of this,” Slade said. “Darrow will handle the phone and all that shit. We need to know how deep he was in.”
“He’s wearing the ink,” Monte said. “That’s deep enough. No offense Priest, but what the fuck? Some guy wants to smack around his old lady, why is that your problem?”
Eden curled her lip.
Well, fuck you, biker guy.
“I’ve had protection on her because of this guy,” Priest said.
“Why is that our issue? She’s not wearing your ink, brother.”
Priest swung a right fist and hit Monte in the jaw. Monte stumbled back. Eden sucked in a breath and grabbed for Nova’s hand.
She needed somebody right now. Anybody.
“This is how they talk to each other,” Nova whispered. “It’s fine.”
Slade stepped in, facing Monte. “We’re doing it like this. What’s done is done.”
Linc pushed by everyone and walked toward Eden. She wasn’t fully aware of how the power structure in the motorcycle club worked, but she saw the way Linc moved. She knew he was important.
The first thing Linc did was touch Nova’s face. Stroking her cheek. Eden saw the way Nova stared at Linc. She could practically hear Nova’s panties getting wet.
“What you did for Priest in the hospital,” Linc said to Eden. “We are forever grateful for. That’s your ex in there?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know about his affiliations?”
“I don’t know what that means,” Eden said. “We weren’t together very long. He was clingy and abusive. When I broke things off he refused to accept it. He threatened me over and over, until he attacked.”
“He attacked you? When?”
“The day Priest left the hospital. There was nothing I could do about it. No proof it was him. That’s why I showed up to Priest’s party. I never meant for this.”
“Yes, you did,” Monte called out.
“Next time I hit you, I’ll break your jaw,” Priest warned.
“Monte is right,” Linc said. “Only one reason you ask one of us for help.”
Eden felt her stomach flip and twist. She begged to not embarrass herself right now and throw up in front of a bunch of bikers.
Mara touched Eden’s right shoulder. “It’s okay. I told you who my ex was. An evil man who all but forced me to be with him. Then he turns his back on his club, leaving me stuck in the middle.”
Eden’s teeth chattered and she nodded. “Fine. Yes. I wanted Priest to kill him. Fuck him! Okay? He wasn’t going to stop. And look what happened. As soon as Priest told those two guys to stop following me, he showed up. He was going to kill me.”
Linc leaned down closer to Eden. “Did you know who he was?”
“I don’t know what that means. Who is he?”
“His tattoos. They mean anything to do?”
Eden shook her head.
“ VP , with all due respect, I need you to back off from her,” Priest said.
Linc looked back. “ With all due respect , is she wearing your ink?”
“Just his cum,” Monte called out.
Linc stood back up and turned away from Eden. That had been the most terrifying minute of Eden’s life.
And just hours ago she had been held at gunpoint by her psycho ex.
“Cyrus might just lose his mind over this one,” Slade said.
“Just another scumbag biker,” Linc said. “I’ll talk to him.”
“We need these guys on our side,” Priest said. “ Rattlers haven’t done shit to us. Have they?”
“They’re still rivals,” Monte said.
“Can’t be at war with everyone all at once,” Slade said.
“Give me a chance to make this guy disappear,” Darrow said. “I can create a thorough digital footprint for him. He got spooked by the life and took off.”
“You don’t think at some point they’re going to want to talk to people in his life, including his ex?” Slade asked.
“I’ll be waiting,” Priest said. “I’ll fucking kill everyone with my bare hands.”
“And there’s the problem,” Slade said.
“Priest, where are you with this nurse?” Linc asked. “Just fucking her or what?”
“That’s my business,” Priest said. “I could have buried this guy and said nothing. I’m getting Eden out of here. She rented a cabin. We’ll go there for the night. Nobody will know.”
“Priest, I have to ask you something,” Linc said. He pointed to Cody’s corpse. “I’ll call it bodily fluids . There’s stuff on this guy. Did you…”
“Do you want me to answer that, VP ?” Priest asked, gritting his teeth.
“Sick fuck,” Slade said. “Sick. Fuck.”
“Let’s get honest for a second here,” Monte said. “Priest, you want to throw punches at me, go for it, but I’ll always put this club first. That nurse out there. She knows a lot. A whole lot. Are we in trouble with this?”
“Trouble?” Priest asked.
“Are you fucking her? Are you going to ink her up? What is it? She looks ready to throw up out there. And here we are, all gathered around a dead body that one of our own caused. How far are we extending a branch of trust here?”
All eyes moved to Priest. Monte had a fair point. His previous comment deserved a punch to the jaw. This comment did not. Priest still balled his hands up but he didn’t throw any punches.
“I don’t have a fucking answer to that,” Priest said. “I made her a promise when I left the hospital and I kept to my promise. That’s all I can say.”
When Priest walked out of the bedroom, he locked eyes with Eden once again. Eden felt a surge of something attack her. It was more than lust. More than the recent memory of Priest and his aggressive hands and big yet amazing dick exploring her body.
Looking at Priest made her feel safe. Yet Priest himself was probably the deadliest person she’d ever met.
“Time to leave, doll,” Priest said. “Come pack up a bag or something. We’re going away for the night.”
Eden rose up from the couch without thinking twice. She kept the blanket wrapped around her body and walked with Priest back into her bedroom. The other guys from the motorcycle club were basically shielding Cody’s corpse from view. That was a good thing.
Eden grabbed a handful of clothes and of all things, Priest was the one who swiped a pair of shoes off the floor for her. Such a small gesture yet it had her heart racing. Then again, her heart had been racing from the second she opened the bathroom door and saw her crazy ex sitting on the edge of the bed with a gun.
“I’ll drive,” Priest whispered to her as he ushered her from the bedroom. “Get your keys.”
“What are they going to do?” Eden whispered.
“Not your concern. I said to fucking move.”
Priest gave Eden a slap to her ass, which made her gasp and jump. She looked to her right at Nova and Mara, who both just stared back at her. The entire thing felt ominous. She already knew her life would never be the same again.
To think that this all happened because of a shift assignment. If she hadn’t been working when Priest was at the hospital… Well, Eden would have been dead by now.
They left the apartment and while Priest hated the idea of traveling with four wheels instead of two, he did appreciate that Eden drove a big SUV. Three rows of comfortable seating, bucket seats for the driver and passenger, nice and high off the ground. A fancy dashboard with a large navigation screen to go along.
“They must pay you a fortune,” Priest said.
“I’m good at my job,” Eden said.
She tried to laugh but her throat locked up when she looked in the mirror and saw her apartment building. Everything began to play out in her head once more.
Priest reached over and touched her leg.
“Don’t do that, doll,” he said in a deep voice. “Whether it’s ten seconds gone by or ten years gone by, it’s all in the past now. You’re a great nurse but you’re not some nerd who can invent a time machine. There’s no going back and changing it.”
“Just what I need,” Eden whispered. “A pep talk from a murderous biker.”
“Yeah, I’m the guy who does the murdering. But what’s it say about you? You’re the one who set it all up.”
“Priest, please. I don’t want to throw up again.”
“Then move forward, doll. This is where we’re at. You’re part of something now.”
“Why did you call them there to see his body? You could have taken care of it yourself.”
“I planned on it,” Priest said. “Things took a complicated turn. That’s why Linc asked you what he did. Your ex is part of a rival crew.”
“What?”
“You didn’t know?”
“No. I swear. He was…”
Eden covered her mouth and shut her eyes. That meant the current man fucking her…? An outlaw biker. It meant the guy before that she was with…? An outlaw biker.
It meant Eden had a secret taste for bad boy bikers.
