Chapter 21
TWENTY-ONE
JUNIPER
I woke up that morning feeling calm and settled, a stark contrast to the fits of weeping I’d been in and out of all yesterday. That meant my heat was imminent. I always hit this strange calm period until the cramps started, and then it would hit fast.
The pack had gone out this morning, leaving Kit and me at home. He’d insisted on giving me a makeover, which was a good distraction from the nerves I was feeling about being with the pack. Kit seemed to think everything was peachy, but I wasn’t so sure. I was about to spend another heat with them, and this time as their extra. Their omega’s omega. My stomach flipped again, and I tried to distract myself by watching Kit wield the curling iron.
“How come you know how to use that thing and I don’t?” I grumbled as Kit produced another perfect ringlet.
“I learned it at Hawthorne Academy. They like to make sure omegas learned all the important stuff,” he said with a smile.
“Like how to make a shiv?” I asked, referencing Pack Darling Part 1 & 2. Seriously, that story had power. Probably even enough to inspire someone to write a 100,000 word double-omega-themed book in less than a month after reading it for the first time, though that was weirdly specific.
And wasn’t it a movie in this universe?
“Haha,” he replied sarcastically, and crouched in front of me, pulling apart the final curl.
“Okay, done.”
He’d done full makeup and hair this morning, and refused to tell me why. My skin was smooth and glowing, and he’d convinced me to try a bright red color for my lips. My eyes were perfectly shadowed.
“Kit, I don’t even have anything that’ll go with this,” I said, peering in the mirror at the impeccable makeup and the pajamas I was still wearing.
He grinned and grabbed a box out of the closet.
“Adrian asked me to help him pick it,” he said, settling on the bed as I looked down at the box. “Which worked out perfectly because then he had to get me a new outfit as well.”
I undid the fancy ribbon and lifted the lid. It was a navy blue dress, made out of a soft, light material. I was afraid it was going to be too fancy, but it was a nice kind of casual flowy that I could wear out.
I took off my pajamas and pulled it on. It was high-necked and crisply cut, the material just loose enough that my nipples weren’t super obvious. It had a sash-like waist before flowing to my knees, flaring out a little. And most importantly, it had pockets. Kit came up behind me, resting his head on my shoulder as we both stared.
“Perfect,” he said, kissing my cheek.
“Okay, are you going to tell me what all this is for?” I asked. “Or where the others are?”
“It’s a surprise,” he said.
* * *
It was the New Oxford Aquarium. I could feel my excitement bubbling up as we drove into the parking lot and Kit bounded over to open my door for me. I looked around, searching for the pack, but they weren’t here. I took Kit’s hand, and he walked me to the fountain at the front. Adrian was there, sitting on the bench, and he stood as we arrived, blushing a bit as he stared at my dress.
“Okay, I’ll see you later,” Kit said, pressing a kiss into my hand and gesturing me forward.
“Okay…?” I gave him one last glance as he stepped to the side.
“Hi,” said Adrian. “You look lovely.”
“Thanks.“ I stuck my hands in my pockets. “And, um, thanks for the dress.”
“More of a hit than my last gift?" he said, and I blinked at him. Oh shit.
I rummaged in my handbag and pulled out the small, glowing keychain.
“This?” I asked, feeling a little guilty as he looked at it, confused.
“Shit, Adrian, this was like the perfect gift,” I said, tucking it back into my bag. “It’s cute and cozy and peaceful and I love it so much. I loved it so much it really scared me when I thought I was leaving, and I’m so sorry I made you think I didn’t like it.”
I bit my lip, wondering if he’d be annoyed, but instead he looked relieved.
“Oh,” he replied, but there was a smile tugging on his face. “Does this mean that you’re okay with me holding your hand now, too?”
I blushed. He… wanted that?
“Yeah,” I said, snatching his hand before he could change his mind or tell me he was just joking.
“Okay.” He was now grinning ear to ear. “I got us tickets already. Shall we?”
He held my hand as we walked through the tropics, peering at the turtles and snakes. We went to the balcony overlooking a freshwater fish pool, and I kept blushing because he was just staring at me every time I looked at him.
“Thanks for not telling anyone. About my eyes,” I said as I watched a large carp brush the surface. “And—for diverting the others that morning. And I heard how you told the story, too. You made it seem like it was your fault, not that I crept up on you in the dark.”
“It was nothing,” he replied with a shrug, and stepped closer to me so our shoulders were touching.
He was so warm beside me and he smelled so good. I turned, looking up at his brown eyes. He hovered for a moment, then leaned down to give me a kiss, his hand slipping around my waist. He was gentle and sweet, and I also found myself blushing as we pulled apart.
“Oh,” I said, my cheeks burning. “You don’t have to…”
“I want to,” he said gently. “I want you, Juniper. I love seeing you fierce and confident, like you could handle anything. Like you’d take on the world. And I love seeing you like this, too, when you seem so peaceful and calm.”
He took my hand, making my stomach swoop.
“I want to come alongside you and give you anything you need, and I want to help you find more of these quiet moments, too. And I’d be honoured if you joined our pack—not because you love Kit, but because I want you here. I want to fall in love with you, too, Juniper. If you’ll have me.”
His face was bright red by the end, and I swallowed heavily as he finished.
“I want that, too,” I said, and pulled him down for another kiss, my heart swelling. I hadn’t expected this from him. He had Kit, and I did too, but to know that there was going to be a place in his heart for me made me so happy.
“Fucking finally,” said a voice from behind me. “Took you long enough dude. I know I promised I wouldn’t step in, but seriously?”
I turned around to see Ez leaning on a fake stone wall behind us. He kicked off and came over, taking my hand and tugging me down the corridor.
“Um, I’ll see you later, Juni,” said Adrian as I was taken away.
“It’s my turn, hot stuff.” Ez gave me a wink, and I chuckled.
“So wait, who’s going to be after you?” I asked.
“Um, ouch?" he said. “Don’t even think about that, sunshine. It’s just Ez and Juniper time right now.”
He was leading me down the hall to the deep sea section.
He stopped under a glowing display of jellyfish and looked me up and down, before helping me do a little twirl. I curtsied as I finished, and he let go of my hand to give me a little round of applause.
“I didn’t know you could get any more beautiful,” he said. “But you continue to surprise me.”
“Are you okay?” I asked, tapping him on the head. “You just said beautiful instead of hot or smokin’ or something.”
He pushed me back against the glass, and his forehead met mine, his hands resting on my hips.
“You’re sexy as hell, too,” he said in a low voice, before leaning in and nibbling my bottom lip. My hands tangled in his hair as I caught him in a kiss. He pressed closer, his body so warm compared to the cool glass behind me. His eager tongue met mine, and his hands were moving down my hips, following my curves. I broke away and swatted his hands from where he was groping my ass. A swirl of arousal had awoken between my legs, and for a second I wondered if it might trigger my heat, but I was in the clear. For now.
“There are kids here,” I said, glancing around in mortification. He smirked, but pulled back, taking my hand again.
“I just want it on the record,” he said as we walked in front of a tank of moon jellies. “That I was the first to say I loved you. It was the day after your heat, and Kit had just texted us to ask if we’d want to see you again, and I told them all that I knew I was in love with you.”
“Really?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Mhmm. You can ask ‘em,” he said smugly.
“Nothing to do with the fact I was your first heat?”
“Nope,” he said. “I think that was just like, fate. But we come and see you and you’re so like, cool and mature. And you seem prickly but then you totally melted when we were with you, and you told me your real name while you were gazing into my eyes.”
“Pretty sure that it was Vander I was looking at.”
“Whatever. Point is, I was 100% in. Oh, and Jhin told me to say?—”
He pulled a little strip of paper out of his pocket and squinted at it.
“Right.” His voice lowered as he imitated Jhin. “‘Ezra. Make sure she knows that you are not just interested in her because you are aroused by the idea of her and Kit together.’” He glanced at me. “Look, I’m not gonna lie. I’ve been dreaming of both of you sucking my dick together since you talked about it that one day, but seriously, Juniper?—”
His eyes met mine, and he actually stopped walking, taking both my hands.
“I think I’d be heartbroken if you left us. And you make me want to be all responsible and shit. Make you proud. Like, I want to make you the best grilled cheese sandwich ever, but like, the grilled cheese sandwich is actually our life.”
“I don’t know if that makes sense,” I said, and he waved his hand.
“Don’t think about it too hard. I didn’t. Point is, I’m yours, Juni, 100%. And I’m Kit’s, too, 100%, duh. But also yours.”
He flashed me his stunning smile, and I couldn’t help but smile back.
“So?" he said, wiggling his eyebrows. “Better speech than Adrian’s?”
“I’m not rating your speeches.” I snorted.
We wandered through the deep sea section, and at the end, he proudly took me to the Experience the Deep portion. I followed him down the narrow corridor, and then into one of the small, dark rooms that were underneath a giant tank. The floor was covered with cushions, so you could lie back and watch the various creatures glow and light up in the dark. I wondered what it would take to sneak in here at night with a few more pillows and blankets. Maybe the pack. Or just their scents.
Following his lead, I laid down on the cushioned floor to stare up at the beautiful sight overhead.
“We got this all to ourselves for ten minutes,” he said, snuggling into my side.
I was surprised when he actually just rested his head on my shoulder and gazed up at the dark water with me. His arm was around my neck, and he gave a happy little sigh as we lay there.
Eventually, though, his hand meandered down until his knuckle was brushing over my nipple, continuing until my breathing was shallow and heat was steadily pooling in my core. He kept doing that, sending shivers through me, the arousal building and building until I was panting.
This was so dangerous, this close to my heat, but I didn’t care, it felt too good. His lips brushed my neck, and then he was on top of me, his leg lodged firmly between my thighs and his hand slipping under my dress to palm my breast as our lips crashed together.
I heard him groan in his throat, and I was furiously grinding against his leg because it felt so fucking good and I needed more, needed him—I climaxed as he pinched my nipples between his fingers, sucking on his lower lip and riding it out.
The light flicked back on and he tugged my dress back down with a cheeky grin. I could only smile back, because I’d never doubted Ez. He was an open book—and not a dictionary, but a comic book with bright colors and very few words.
“My goodness, Miss Anders, how scandalous,” he whispered, nipping my ear. I smacked his shoulder. He tugged me up and pressed a kiss to my forehead. I took a breath, but the feelings started to fade, no cramping gripping my abdomen. I was really tempting fate though.
“I definitely win,” he said, smugly.
“Not a competition,” I reminded him as we left the room.
“But if it was, I’d win.”
I hesitated as I saw Vander slouched against the wall.
“V, dude, you’re gonna have a hard time topping that,” Ez said, winking at me. My face heated. I was never going to live this down.
Vander rolled his eyes, but his stony expression was only half-hearted.
“Dolphin show,” he said, and we walked outside. He led us up to the back, and he sat right against the wall on the concrete floor. I sat down next to him.
“There’s no one here,” I pointed out.
“Starts in 45,” he said with a shrug. “I think Ez ended when he did to screw me over. He kept going on about how I had an unfair advantage since I saved your life and all.”
I gave a little laugh, and he smiled.
“So what’s the deal today?” I said, hugging my knees. “Did Kit put you guys up to this?”
“Nah,” he said. “My idea actually.”
I snorted, then nudged him with my elbow.
“For real?” I asked, raising my eyebrow. “What, so you told everyone to tell me they like me?”
He turned to look at me, his white-blonde hair hanging over his face. He looked hesitant, almost shy.
“No, it’s not like that,” he sighed. “Juniper, you’re joining our pack, forever. I didn’t want you not to know where you stand with us. Honesty . That’s what I suggested. Whatever that means to each of us.” He nudged my foot with his. “Not fair to you otherwise.”
“Okay. Well, thanks.”
I glanced up at him, lacing my hands together. “So?”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, well, I’m not good at this.”
His hand found mine, his fingers lacing into them, and my heart ached for him.
He took a deep breath.
“Okay. If you’d asked me last year. Or even last month… I didn’t think there’d ever be anyone else for me. Like, Jhin was it. But… then I met you.”
He ran his fingers through his hair. “Kit, too, but that’s its own thing. Anyway, you were beautiful and angry and annoying. And I thought I hated you, but in the park when you launched yourself at those assholes—for a moment I pictured you… dead.” He paused, his ice-blue eyes meeting mine. “Even back then, I couldn’t bear to think that, because I knew you were special. A flash in the dark. Someone worth fighting for.”
I squeezed his hand, my throat feeling a bit tight.
“So yeah,” he mumbled, “I’m glad you’re staying, Cherry Bomb. I like being with you, and if you want, I’d like to try being with you.”
“I’m in,” I said, shooting him a grin.
“Oh, thank fuck,” he sighed, his shoulders relaxing.
“Don’t think this means I’m gonna go easy on you if we’re fighting,” I said.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he said, rolling his eyes.
A flash of pink caught my eye, and I looked up.
“Oh my god,” I said, grabbing Vander. “It’s girl Kit.”
She had brown skin, but with a cotton-candy puff of pink hair down her back. She had the same freckles and golden glasses, and she was almost skipping along, holding the hand of a tall male beside her.
“She’s even an omega!” I hissed, as I saw the pearly flash of a princess bond on her neck.
“That doesn’t look like Kit,” he said, shaking his head. “She’s like, thick-hot.”
“It’s the face, ” I said, pulling out my phone. “Help me get a picture?—”
“No way! I’m not helping you stalk a random person because they have pink hair!”
The omega disappeared from view, and I glared at Vander. He leaned forward, his hand coming up to cup my chin.
“Now I can tell you how sexy that glare is,” he said, leaning closer. I flushed, and his eyes flicked to my lips.
“You are intolerable,” I said before I kissed him.
We went and had lunch at the overpriced food stand, and I insisted he let me feed him the French fries. He took it well, with just an eye roll, and then I dragged him back to get front row seats for the show.
“We’re in the splash zone,” he pointed out.
“You can leave if you want,” I said airily, raising an eyebrow. “ I want to see the dolphins properly.”
He grumbled but gave me his jacket, so my dress didn’t get wet, which earned him a kiss. He did end up getting quite wet from the dolphins, and I apologised by pushing him into a corner behind the otter cage and furiously making out with him.
“You gonna take that off?” I asked, nodding at his wet shirt.
“I will if you do,” he said, tugging at my dress and I laughed. He eventually started moving me toward the cafe, his expression sobering.
“Jhin?” I asked nervously. He’d been avoiding me since the hospital, and when he was around, he’d focused on Kit or Vander. Vander rolled his eyes.
“He’s got all in his own head about this,” he said. “Barely slept last night.”
Oh. That didn’t really sound promising.
Jhin was waiting at one of the metal tables at the cafe, his back straight. Vander squeezed my hand and then nudged me forward. I crossed over and slipped into the chair opposite him.
“Hi,” I said, folding my hands on my lap and offering him a tentative smile.
“Juniper,” he replied, but he didn’t smile back, and my heart sank as he pulled out a stack of papers. He hadn’t met my eyes yet, but now he cleared his throat and looked up at me.
“I would like to start with an apology,” he said, resting his hands on the pile of documents between us. His intense, black eyes were boring into mine, and I couldn’t look away.
“I’m truly sorry, Juniper. I know I failed you and endangered the Safe House when I missed our appointment with the Aisha Foundation. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that the Safe House can continue to operate.”
I looked hesitantly down at the papers on the table. Oh. This wasn’t really what I was expecting.
“Is that even possible?” I said hesitantly. “I don’t have any money left to keep it running. I used it all for my scent match.” I mean, I had a lot of regrets about going to the Valentine Division, but hastening the Safe House’s impending demise was the biggest.
Kit had been heartbroken when I told him, though he’d been relieved when I admitted I didn’t actually want him to not work with me.
“Yes,” Jhin replied. “I’m looking into whether we can get your money back for that. Matching you with a pack that tried to dark bond you is bad press, even if it was technically legal.”
His mouth pressed into a thin line of disapproval before he continued.
“Kit helped me get the files for the budget and expenses. You mentioned his aunt managed to balance the business before, so I’ve been playing with the numbers, and I think we can make it work if I contribute some funds as well. I know you didn’t just want it to survive, but also be better. So, I’ve been preparing a plan for improvements with a bigger budget. You’ll have to work with me to make sure it’s what you want.”
“But we don’t have the Foundation’s support.”
“There are other ways we can try and raise funding—I’ve started some plans for that as well. It’s all here.” He patted the stack of papers. He looked at them for a second, then sighed. His eyes remained on the papers as he straightened them.
“The other thing I wanted to apologize for is—” His voice wavered as he cut off, his breathing shaky “—how I hurt you.” He swallowed, and I could see tears brimming in his eyes. I stiffened, blinking at him.
“From the start, I made decisions that caused you to suffer. I saw you, Juniper, a bright star coming into our lives. I admired you for your work at the Safe House, and how you were fierce enough to match Vander.
“The right thing to do would have been to let you go as soon as we matched Kit. As soon as you made your wishes clear. But I… couldn’t. During our first date, when Kit said he wanted to try to ask you again, I desperately wanted that. And that night, when he offered to host us—if it had just been him, I would have said no. I would have had the pack court him properly. But I selfishly wanted to see more of you, so I let us come.” He met my eyes briefly.
“As I got to know you, I found someone who understood what it was to lead. To take care of those that rely on us. I told myself that we were becoming friends, and continued to let us stay, ignoring the signs that you were suffering from our presence. So much so that you eventually cracked and wound up in danger. And even in that danger, I abandoned you at the mall to go to Vander. I was supposed to protect you, and I failed you when you needed me most.”
He dropped his head into his hands, still staring down at the papers, his face wet with tears.
“I can’t stop thinking about what could have gone wrong,” he added quietly. “How they could have got you, or killed Kit. I don’t know how to make that right, and I understand if you don’t trust me now.”
“Jhin,” I said softly, taking his hand. “We both thought Vander was dying, and I told you to go. If you hadn’t been there, I would have run to him myself, and I’m not strong enough to send an alpha flying.”
“But I still?—”
“Stop,” I said, much more firmly. “What would you tell Ez if he did the same thing? Or Vander? You did the best you could. We were all stressed and overwhelmed, and we can’t punish ourselves for that.”
He hesitantly looked up at me again, letting our eyes meet.
“Is this why you’ve been avoiding me?” I asked, and his face twisted into a guilty grimace.
“I just… didn’t know how to make it right,” he said.
“Okay, well next time, talk to me sooner, alright? I just thought that you—that maybe—you didn’t want me there,” I finished quietly, my voice breaking. He snatched up my other hand, his eyes wide.
“No! I never meant for you to feel that. I want you, Juniper. I…need you. I think I’ve needed you for a long time, and I’m so glad you’re here.”
“Good,” I said, forcing back a sniff. That was all of them. I got to have the whole pack, and Kit did, too, and it was so perfect.
Jhin stood, pulling me to my feet and tugging me close. He tilted my head up and leaned down. His lashes were still wet with his tears, making his eyes glitter as he gazed at me.
“May I kiss you, Juniper?” he asked, and I smiled.
“Yes,” I whispered, and his lips met mine in a new promise of love and safety. His hand was secure on my back, the other tipping my chin up as his soft hair brushed my face. As I leaned into him, it felt like he was surrounding me with his tall frame and his comforting blackberry and sage scent. I lost myself in this moment, until I felt him pulling away, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
“You’re so beautiful, Juniper,” he said, and this time I let the words settle deep within me, bringing a smile to my face.
“So, are we going through these documents?” I said, patting the pile of papers. He blinked at me.
“Actually, I was really hoping to see an octopus?" he asked hopefully.
* * *
It was evening, and Jhin took my arm in his as we walked across the plaza. Instead of going toward the exit, he steered us toward the aquarium’s super fancy restaurant. It had just opened in the last few months, around the time their oldest beluga had passed. Not that I kept track or anything.
“Wait, really?” I asked as we approached.
“Really.” He gave his name at the front, and we were led past the fountain and to the balcony at the back.
Kit was sitting by himself at a table, dressed in a navy silk shirt and dress pants. He jumped to his feet as we approached, banging into the table and almost spilling the water glasses. He straightened, tugging on his cuffs, and took my hand from Jhin’s.
“Hi,” he said, pressing a little kiss to it. I heard a whistle and turned to see Ez, who was sitting with the rest of the pack at a booth nearby. Vander smacked the back of his head and Adrian smiled, giving a small wave. Jhin slid into the table beside them, winding his arm around Vander, whose cheeks went a bit pink.
Kit pulled out my chair, and I sat down, straightening my dress carefully as he took his seat across from me. I started a bit as a waiter appeared from seemingly nowhere and asked if we wanted any drinks. I shook my head, not sure what to order, but Kit ordered both of us a glass of wine.
“Thanks,” I said as we were left alone again.
“Okay, so here’s a tip,” Kit said. “I know entrees sound like they should be an appetizer but they’re actually the main meal.”
I opened the menu and stood up abruptly when I saw the prices.
“ What the fuck ?” I hissed at Kit, and he laughed and tugged me down again.
“It’s okay, we’re all covering it. It’s not bad once you split it five ways.”
His hand curled around mine and he gave me his beautiful smile.
“Juniper, I’ve always dreamed of being able to take you to a fancy place like this, because you’ve always deserved it. And now the pack has made it possible, so don’t worry. Alright?”
I held his gaze for a moment, his smile and touch relaxing me as they always did.
“Okay,” I said finally, tentatively opening up the menu again.
“Why is it so big?” I asked, peering at Kit over the top of mine. He raised his eyebrows.
“Right?! But the words are like, so tiny.”
We both burst into a fit of giggles, and after that, all my nerves were gone. Kit helped me pick out what I wanted and then we both burst into laughter again when the food finally came out—a tiny portion on a massive plate.
There was a tiny dessert, too, and then Kit said he wanted to show me the view from the balcony.
We went and collected the pack, and then we all made our way outside. Ez was giving a very detailed account of what we’d done earlier to a bemused Adrian. Kit and I followed Jhin and Vander as they leaned on the stone railing, and I smiled as I watched Jhin press a kiss to Vander’s head.
It was dusk, and there were strings of lights along the pathways, glittering off the water in the various tanks and the pale walkways. Beyond the aquarium walls, there were paths of trees decorated with more lights. I leaned on Kit’s shoulder.
“This was the best day,” I said quietly, glancing at the others.
“Good,” he said, and tugged me to his chest. I felt a faint purr start within me, and Kit’s joined in as we gazed out at the view. Adrian and Ez joined us on the other side, the latter actually quiet for once.
“This is how it was supposed to go, Juni,” Kit said, pulling away and looking at me, a little sad. “My plan. I wasn’t supposed to ask you to join my pack in a coffee shop right after I scent matched. I always hoped you would find a pack. And when I was sure you loved them and they loved you, I would have taken you somewhere like this. And I would have been terrified, but I’d say ‘Juniper Anders, I fell in love with you the first day we met. You’re strong and smart, and beautiful and brave. You changed my life.’ And I’d have asked if you’d have me in your pack.”
I sniffed, trying to make my lip stop trembling.
“But you know, I think this is better in the end. Because now I get to speak for all of us.”
He pulled back, and I blinked at him when he sunk down onto one knee. I froze, and everyone was looking at Kit as he tugged a little box out of his pocket and opened it up, offering a ring. My breathing was shallow and I could hear my heartbeat pounding.
“Juniper, will you do us the honour of marrying us?” Kit asked, his voice steady.
I broke, tears pouring down my face as I nodded, trying not to spray snot everywhere and ruin this beautiful moment.
“ Yuss,” hissed Ez as Kit stood up and couldn’t even get the ring onto my finger, before Ez pulled everyone into a huge pack hug. Me and Kit were crammed in the center, and Jhin was sticking out the top. Vander was being held in by Ez, and the brothers were the ones holding us all together. I was laughing and definitely spraying snot, but Jhin came to the rescue with a handkerchief. This one was new and had juniper berries embroidered in the corner.
Vander eventually had to wrestle me out from Ez, lifting me up so I was sitting on the balcony rail, his warm hands holding me in place. Kit scrambled up beside me with Adrian’s help and slipped the ring onto my finger. It was a glittering ring made up of delicate vines that intertwined and formed into a small leaf, with five small blue stones decorating it.
It looked familiar somehow.
“Is this… Dee’s ring?” I asked, looking up at Kit. He nodded, swelling with pride.
“Went to grandmother’s to get it back—finally. And cut her off for good.”
“He’s being modest,” Vander said, ruffling his hair. “He tore up a cheque right in front of her face, and also managed to get in an excellent ‘ fuck you ’.”
Kit blushed.
“I recorded it actually,” Vander said with a shrug. “If you wanted to hear.”
Kit grabbed his arm.
“You recorded that? The whole thing?" he asked, eyes boring into Vander’s.
“Yeah,” said Vander. Kit bounced on the rail excitedly, causing Adrian to grab him in alarm.
“We got her!” Kit exclaimed. “Fuck, we got her on tape admitting she stole Dee’s stuff from the will!”
A wide grin settled on my face. This really was the best night ever.
And then I doubled over as the heat cramp hit me.
“Oh, shit,” I panted, gripping Vander tightly. “We need to get home. Now.”
