Chapter 28
Chapter Twenty-Eight
CARA
I am so getting my ass blistered for this stunt but it’s worth it. I didn’t tell anyone what I had planned. This was hit or miss. I didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up. I only have one last mission in this plan of mine. I have to get Thomas out of the picture to save my friend.
Thor thinks I haven’t been paying attention. I know he’s plotting some kind of a revenge. He won’t get to execute it. I understand that he might even be pissed at me for interfering, but I don’t care. I will not watch him rot behind bars.
Thomas foolishly thought the only information I had on him were the spreadsheets I showed him. For such a powerful man, he sure is stupid. I had so much shit on him it’s not even funny.
When Tech and the guys returned with the flash drives, I had already cooked up this little stunt. I had to be strategic. If I had let Sara find out, she would end up spilling the beans to Bear. It’s not intentional but Sara is a sucker to her Ol’ Man. The only reason I told her to cover for me is so no one would worry too much.
I also couldn’t let Tech know what was going on because he would rat me out for sure. No matter how close we’ve grown over the years, his loyalty will always be with the brotherhood and I respect that.
I can still hear the fear in Thomas’s voice when I called the morning we left Arizona. He practically begged and said he would do anything to make this go away. He fell right into my trap.
“Hello?” he answered.
“Thomas, how are you?” I smiled mischievously. I heard his intake of breath before he hissed.
“What the fuck do you want?!” he barked into the phone.
“Well, that’s not very nice,” I chided. “Check your email.”
I could tell the moment he had the email pulled up. “Please, what do you want? I’ll do anything, just don’t drag my sister into this.”
“As long as you do as I say, I’ll leave her out of it.”
I have no intentions of actually doing anything to Thor’s mother, but I know it would be the push Thomas needed to do as I asked.
If this information got out, not only would Thomas do time but so would his sister. Thomas has been forging documents and stealing from the charities they run. She would be held equally responsible in the end.
“Name your price,” he growled.
I laughed before saying, “It’s not money I want. I know you have connections. Don’t even bother trying to lie about it. I need someone released from prison and you’re just the man to get it done.”
If I’m being honest, I’m surprised he got it done so fast. Wyatt has been in jail for over a decade. In my eyes, he didn’t deserve to spend a single minute in prison for what he had done.
Wyatt is my brothers’ best friend. In a way, he’s like a brother from another mother for us. We were all close growing up. Frances went through a really bad rebellious phase and ended up at a college party. When she suspected she had been drugged, she called Wyatt. He went to pick her up just to find three college students raping her. He snapped and beat the hell of them.
One of them he beat into a coma, and he died three months later. The victim’s father was really close to the judge who was in charge of Wyatt’s trial. That judge wasn’t the only one playing dirty. My dad has been trying to get Wyatt out since the day he was sentenced. There were just way too many hands involved. My time with STF taught me that in order to take down one monster you needed a bigger one.
Thomas was the perfect candidate.
After the judge sentenced Wyatt to life, his parents turned their backs on him. They couldn’t have their murderer of a son tainting their image.
They kept Frances away but when she turned eighteen, she started visiting the prison. Her parents cut her off as well when they found out. Mom and Dad paid for her to go to college and set her up in an apartment. She basically lives like a monk. She works from home and only goes out to visit Wyatt. That night changed her life.
I make it to the airport, park my truck, and hop out. I check the time and see Wyatt’s plane should be landing right now. I take off in a light jog and make it to the terminal just as passengers start to exit. I stand there bouncing in place, waiting until I see him.
When he finally emerges, he searches the crowd until he sees me. He smiles and I can’t help but return it. I run to him, and he catches me in a hug.
“How the hell did you do this?” He laughs.
“That’s my secret.” I wink.
Looking Wyatt over, he’s completely changed from the boy I remember. He’s well over six feet tall, full beard, his black hair cut low, and he’s packed on the muscles. His arms are huge. I know they say there’s not much to do but pump iron in prison, but geez. Not to mention he’s covered in tattoos.
“Whatever you did, thank you. I really thought I would die in that place.”
“We weren’t going to let that happen, Wyatt. Honestly, Sara, Cam, Chris, and I talked about breaking you out a few times.” I giggle.
He shakes his head and laughs. “Well, come on. Let’s get out of here.”
I lead him to my truck, and he turns to me with a smirk. “Damn. Blade told me you had a badass truck, but this is…” He shakes his head with a whistle.
Smiling, I hop in the truck and Wyatt follows suit. Not even ten minutes on the road back to the clubhouse and Viper calls me for tenth time. Smiling, I answer the phone.
“Hey, babe!” I add some extra sweetness to my voice hoping to sooth him.
“Hellcat, care to explain why you told me you were going to Walmart and then went off the grid. And now there’s someone here that you failed to mention to anyone they were coming.”
“I wish I had time to explain all that, but my phone is just about to die. I’m on my way back to the clubhouse now. I’ll see you in a few.”
“Cara, don’t you dare hang up —”
I press the end button on my screen in my truck before he can say more.
I am so going to pay for this stunt.
My ass twitches thinking about the last time he spanked me for going rouge. While the majority of the time it turns me on that was not one of them. Not to mention, he edged me for over an hour. I’ve never felt murderous and horny all at the same time. Needless to say, I’ve been on good behavior since.
That is until now. I’m not telling him I blackmailed a mayor. A girl has to have her secrets. Honestly, he might just edge me for an entire week if he finds out I hid all this from him.
So, yeah, there’s no way in hell I’m telling him that Thomas had anything to do with this.
Wyatt chuckles and I turn to him. “Your Ol’ Man?”
“Yup. You know I have to keep him on his toes from time to time.”
For the rest of the drive, we catch up on small talk. He tells me about his time in prison and I tell him about my kids. When I hop out of the truck, Kev is standing by the entrance of the clubhouse shaking his head at me.
“Have you lost your mind?” he asks, flailing his arms.
“No, why?”
“You disappear for hours with no word and return with a man?”
“Oh my God. It’s nothing like that. Move out the way so I can face the jury.”
“Your funeral,” he says and shrugs. He moves out of the way, and I walk through the door. As soon as I enter the common room, everyone goes silent. My mom and dad are hugging Frances. When they notice how quiet it is, they look up.
Viper, on the other hand, stares at us furiously. His eyes are aimed at Wyatt. God, my man is so jealous and I love it. When he gets territorial over me, it does something to me. I can’t explain it. He takes a menacing step forward, but Frances’s cry has him freezing in place.
“Wyatt?” she shrieks placing a shaky hand over her mouth.
She’s across the room in seconds. She launches herself into his arms as he picks her up from the ground. I tear up watching their reunion. They hold on to each other as she sobs into her brother’s shoulder. I walk over to Viper and place my hands on his chest. He knows all about Wyatt.
My family swarms Wyatt with hugs. My brothers don’t cry but I can tell they’re choked up seeing their best friend.
“This is why I didn’t tell anyone where I was. I wanted to surprise everyone.”
My man looks at me with narrowed eyes and I bring my lips to his before he can start the interrogation. Call it a sucker move. I don’t care.
My brothers bring Wyatt over to meet Viper and they shake hands. Right as Viper opens his mouth to say something, Tiny yells out, “Thor, check this out!”
We turn around as he’s turning up the volume of television. A news anchor is standing in front of Thomas’s estate.
“Breaking news in Arizona. The mayor of Arizona has been murdered in his own home. At approximately six this morning, Mayor Shaw, along with a few of his security guards’ bodies were discovered by the maid. There are no details on the murder. The chief of police is begging if anyone has any information to please come forward.”
Tiny turns the television down and now all eyes are on me. Damn. Have I become this predictable?
Why the hell am I prime suspect number one?
I stand there defiantly for a few moments before Viper gives me a look that makes me shiver.
“Church!” he snaps.
Oh hell. I’m in deep shit now.
We take our seats at the table and Thor sits forward, eyes trained on me.
“Talk.” I turn to my Ol’ Man and I immediately know I have to fess up to something.
“I found a sex tape on the flash drive. The girl was clearly underaged. She also wasn’t sleeping with him willingly.”
“You mean that sick piece of shit filmed himself raping a teenager?” Thor growls out.
“Yup. And it just so happens that the girl is the niece of one those high-end criminals he works with. He blackmailed her and told her he would send her uncle away if she didn’t do what he wanted. Either Thomas really believed he was untouchable, or he was just plain stupid.”
“And that man is the one responsible for Thomas’s murder?” Viper asks.
“I’m certain of it.”
“Why wouldn’t you come to the table about this?” Viper growls in frustration.
“Because I would risk you all voting against it or having Thor take matters into his own hands.” I turn to Thor. “I know you were plotting. I had to put a stop to it. You were not going to rest until that man was dead. Now he is and you don’t have to be the one to go to prison for it.”
“How do you figure that? You said yourself he told his lawyers to come after us if anything happens.”
“Let them. We have cameras surrounding this place. That’s the only alibi we need.”
Viper sighs and shakes his head. “First, it was the stunt you pulled with Pyro and now this. This is my last and final warning to you and Sara. No more rouge plans or you two are done with club business. Do I make myself clear?”
I nod my head and keep my mouth shut. I honestly expected him to ban us from Church already. I know when to fold. Viper brings down the gavel and ends Church. Everyone leaves until I’m left alone with my fuming husband.
I try to walk past him, but he puts his hand on my stomach, stopping me. He pulls me flush against his body and looks down at me deviously. “I know there’s more to this story that you’re not telling me. You won’t come until I get the full truth out of you.” He presses his hard cock against my body causing me to shiver.
Fuck. Me.
