Appendix 3 Titles and Forms of Address

Emperor : Ruler of all twelve countries in the Lumerian Empire. The Emperor is elected by the ruling Arkasvim. They are appointed for life. Once an Emperor or Empress dies, the Kavim must elect a new ruler. The Emperor must renounce their Ka when anointed, but no Ka may produce an Emperor/Empress twice in a row.

Imperator : The head of the hemisphere. The Empire always has two Imperators, one for the Northern hemisphere, one for the South. The Imperator will also be the Arkasva of their country. They have jurisdiction over their hemisphere, and act as a voice and direct messenger between each Arkasva and the Emperor.

Arkasva (Ark-kas-va): Ruler of the country, literally translates as the “will of the highest soul.”

Arkasvim (Ark-kas-veem): Plural of Arkasva.

Heir Apparent : Title given to the eldest child or Heir of the Arkasva. The next in line to the Seat of Power or First from the Seat.

Arkturion (Ark-tor-ree-an): warlord for the country, general of their soturi/army.

Arkmage : The ruling mage of the country. Ethical disputes over the use of magic are brought to them. They lead the seven Watchers of the Light, and maintain the temple as well as the country’s collection of Valya scrolls. They are granted a stave which allows them to exert the power of ten mages and preside over important holidays, rituals, and ceremonies.

Chayatim (Kheye-ah-teem): Cloaked ones, vorakh who have been enslaved in the Palace to serve the Emperor and Lumerian elites.

Lady : Formal title for a female or female-identifying member of the nobility.

Lord : Formal title for a male or male-identifying member of the nobility.

Soturion : Soldier, magically enhanced warrior. A Lumerian who can transmute magic through their body. May be used as a form of address for a non-noble.

Turion : Commander, may lead legions of soturi. Must answer to their Arkturion.

Mage : A Lumerian who transmutes magic through spells. A stave is used to focus their magic.

Apprentice : A soturion or mage who has passed their first three years of training. As an apprentice, their time is divided between their own studies and teaching the novice to whom they are bound. This is done to strengthen the power of kashonim, and because of the Bamarian philosophy that teaching a subject is the best way to learn and master a subject.

Novice : A soturion or mage who is in the beginning of their learning to become an anointed mage or soturion.

Your Majesty : Formal address for the Emperor or Empress. Previously used for the Kings and Queens of Lumeria Matavia. It can also be used for the King and Queen of the Afeyan Sun and Moon Courts.

Your Highness : Formal address for Imperators. The term of address has also been adopted by the Afeyan Star Court.

Your Grace : Formal address for any member of the ruling Ka who is in line to the Seat of Power, including the Arkasva. A noble may only be addressed as “Your Grace” if they are in line to the Seat.
