Chapter 53 Sienna

Chapter 53

Sienna

Adam’s gone, and she doesn’t care.

She’s collapsed on the driveway, hyperventilating, wiping snot from her nose. Could the demise of their marriage be that swift? Who’s she kidding? She’s been feeling this way for a while. Suzy was just one in a long line of women. She’s finally had enough.

When Adam left the table, she wasn’t entirely sure he’d understood. When she heard his suitcase rolling down the hall, she followed him, running outside, getting in his face. She didn’t care who heard. Renée. Henry. Let them bear witness. She was blazing with fire. Let it rip through the forest.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a figure standing at the door, waiting. She has never loathed and needed a person more, and she yells at her best friend to go away. Picking herself up off the ground, she runs. She runs past Henry’s and Renée’s shocked faces, and she runs past Lucy. Lucy. Her person. She makes it through the open doorway, into the house, and down the stairs. It’s a maze of doors and hallways, and she runs and runs, believing the answers might appear. Deep in the house, she lands in front of the wine cellar, and before she knows it, she’s crossed the darkened hallway.
