CHAPTER NINETEEN
Weston
" C ome the fuck with us," Abel yells as he leans out the side of his dad's truck. "We're going to have dinner at Dad's. We haven't had family dinner in a bit, and I think you need it."
Shit, I do not feel like this, but it's going to be hard to get away from. They're right, we haven't hung out at dinner in a while, not just the group of us.
"Is it really family dinner if the girls aren't with us?" I question. "Why are you trying to guilt me into this?"
"Because you've been an asshole lately, and we need to know why your fucking wife is here," Boone says from the driver's seat. "So, come on, I have a little something to tell y'all, and I would like for everyone to be at a family dinner, even if the girls aren't there."
Boone never asks us for anything, and I'm starting to cave.
"We had family dinner before the ladies. We can have it without them once," Barrett argues.
"Fuck," I throw my gloves. "Okay, you guys are fucking annoying. You're not going to stop until I say I'm going with you."
"You love us, motherfucker." Barrett takes my hat off and throws it to Jasper. They laugh as he catches it, and throws it back.
This pisses me of. "Y'all, leave me the fuck alone. Seriously, I'm not in the mood."
"You never are," Abel grumbles.
They're right, this part of my personality went away when Melanie left. I've been able to let parts of it out slowly as I've healed, but I'm not the same person I was. Neither of us are, and I guess they miss it. Lord knows, I miss me.
With a resigned sigh, I hop into my truck, wedging mine between Barrett and Boone's. As a group we head toward Boone's. I'm not in the mood to be here, but I know I'll feel better once I've spent time with friends.
When we get to the house, I park, and head toward the front door with our group.
Boone claps his hand on my shoulder. "I know things have been rough for you, and you're used to handling all of this type of stuff by yourself. Your parents' have never been supportive. We are. Now's the time to lean on your friends, and that includes me."
"Thanks, I appreciate you."
We get inside, and he hurries to get food laid out.
Jasper, glances over the cup he's drinking out of, his gaze landing right on Nolan. "Heard a rumor about you the other day."
"Oh yeah? You know what they say about rumors."
I grin, looking between the two of them. "The crazier they are, the truer they are?"
Jasper chuckles. "Then the one I heard about him," he tilts his cup in Nolan's direction. "Is gonna be insane if it is true."
Nolan rocks back on his heels. "Then maybe you should tell me what it is."
"That you and your nanny are keeping company after quitting time."
This is something the entire town has been talking about for months. For the first time though, I notice that Nolan doesn't refute it. Instead, he raises his eyebrows. "You can believe whatever you want to."
All of us glance at him, but he doesn't shrink away.
Boone whistles from where he stands, a bottle of beer at his lips. "Way to steal my thunder, asshole."
"What kinda thunder?" Nolan questions.
For some reason I'm nervous as Boone stands in front of us. He sets his beer down, and rubs his hands together.
"I do have an announcement. Don't bother Alexis with this, but I wanted to be the one to tell y'all."
Abel grins as he crosses his arms and gazes at his dad. "Stop fucking around and just tell them."
Boone closes his eyes, exhales a breath, and speaks. "Alexis is pregnant. We're having a baby."
And that's when the entire kitchen erupts in shouts of congratulations.
