Epilogue

Lilli

Mercy’s laughter makes me smile as I study my skin. After the longest hour of my life, I now have a permanent mark to show the world my devotion to Wolf.

The loops and whorls of his thumbprint now rest on the pulse point on my wrist. Wolf tattooed my name across his heart the day we stood under the tent and promised to be together forever.

Mercy just started high school. She’s been living with Miriam and Duke and loving all over little Riley.

After everything went down, Wolf informed me of the sheriff’s death. Although part of me didn’t want to know when I asked him if he did it, I was relieved when he shook his head in disappointment.

Toni and my sisters stood up as my bridesmaids and we partied after, although far more PG than I think the guys would have liked out of respect for Mercy.

I’ve spoken to Daddy once since the incident last year. He quietly retired and continues to live in my childhood home.

Although he’s more than repentant, I haven’t found it in my heart to forgive. Maybe with more time…

Rachel still hasn’t surfaced. We can only assume that she skipped town and every night before I snuggle into Wolf’s arms, I pray that she’s okay.

I know I will see her again someday. Fate would be too cruel not to bring her back to us eventually.

In the meantime, Wolf and I have focused on building a new home amongst the trees next to his original cabin where we’re staying for now.

We haven’t spoken about our loss but sometimes after we’ve come together, especially when it’s sweet and slow and gentle, he’ll press his palm to my stomach.

Every time, I smile and hold him to me, praying that one day, we’ll have the family we deserve.

“Can I see?” Rose asks from the door.

Although she’s still achingly distant, I see her blooming slowly but surely.

She hasn’t spoken about what happened in that basement, but I think some things are better left unsaid.

Holding out my wrist, I grin, and she examines the tattoo before saying, “It’s perfect.”

Beyond her shoulder, Maddox appears, and I cock my head. He doesn’t say anything, just glances at the tattoo with a smile.

I’ve never outright asked him, but I know this devastatingly handsome MC brother did his best to protect me when I needed a friend.

I hope someday, he finds someone who will love him the way he deserves because Maddox is a man, any woman would be lucky to have.

“Stop ogling my woman,” Wolf growls, wrapping me up from behind and carrying me away.

Giggling, I lean my head back and say, “Caveman.”

His eyes light with fire and I shiver as he says, “You ain’t seen nothing yet, baby girl.”
