CHAPTER 19

Day Nine

ON SHIP

DOMINIC

Watching the doctor shove a needle in my girl’s ass cheek isn’t my idea of a good time. The only thing that should be going near her ass should be me.

When Katie lays her head down as the doctor moves from the room, I let her have her moment.

Katie must pass out almost instantly because when the doctor returns, I have to shake her awake.

“Katie.” I pause. “Katie, wake up, baby doll.”

Her eyes flutter open and a small smile plays on her lips.

“Hey you.” Her smile is droopy, and her eyes are cloudy.

“Hi, how are you feeling?” I frown.

I had no idea a shot would hit her this hard and this quick. I thought we would at least make it back to the room first.

“Why are you frowning?” she asks, poking my cheek. “Turn that frown upside down!”

“Looks like you’re in for a fun night.” The doctor chuckles.

Katie looks in his direction and smiles. “Doctor! You are the best. Ten out of ten, would recommend!”

The doctor laughs. “I’m glad you feel that way, Katie. Are you ready for Dominic to take you back to your room?”

“Hell yeah! I’m going to ride him like a cowgirl!” she says, swinging her arm over her head.

“How about you stop doing that, babe?” I say, grabbing her arm.

“Hey how did that get there?” she asks, looking at her arm like it’s offended her.

“All right, Katie, let’s get you up and into the wheelchair,” Nurse Becky says.

“Your rack is fantastic. I know you’re wearing scrubs, but you can still tell. It’s not fair.”

“Thank you.” Nurse Becky blushes.

“How about you keep that mouth closed until we get back to the room? We don’t need you upsetting anyone, sweetheart,” I tell her as I help her into the wheelchair.

“But Dom, why would you want me to keep my mouth shut? I thought you liked my mouth.”

“Holy fuck,” I groan, and the doctor laughs. “She warned me she says weird shit when she takes anything stronger than Tylenol. I didn’t believe her.”

“Lesson learned, my guy. Lesson learned,” he says, slapping my shoulder. “You have our number if you have any questions or concerns.”

I start to wheel Katie out of the medbay when she squeals. “Slow down! I don’t want to get a speeding ticket,” she yells, making some of the employees milling about look our way.

I smile awkwardly as we pass by them.

“How long until we get to our room?”

“Just a few minutes. Why, what’s up? Do you need something?” My concern outweighing my secondhand embarrassment for her.

She’s going to kill me tomorrow for this, and it’s not even my fault. Somehow, it’s always the man’s fault.

“I just want to get you naked.” She shrugs.

“I don’t think that will happen tonight, baby doll. You’re loopy. It wouldn’t be right.” I try and let her down easy.

I mean, my dick is saluting her and ready to go, but I’m a better man than that. There is no way I would let her do anything in the state that she’s in. Hell, I’m not sure how much of this she will remember tomorrow.

Thankfully, she changes the subject. “I’ve never been in a saxophone before.”

“What the…” I trail off. “Are you okay, Katie? Do we need to go back to the medbay?”

“Listen,” she says, pointing at the ceiling. “The sound in this saxophone is on point.”

I listen, really listen to the music and sure enough, the song has a saxophone in it, and I can’t help but shake my head, impressed.

“You are something else,” I mutter.

Even though I hate it, I take the elevator. It’s the only way to safely get Katie back to our room. Still, I pray the entire time that it doesn’t stop. Katie doesn’t even notice. She’s talking about how bees pollinate the world and how we need to save them.

She effortlessly moves through several random topics from kangaroos and their pouches to elephants and their trunks that look like they could be cocks the entire way back to the room. I try to withhold my laughter, but it’s hard.

When we make it back to our room, Katie looks around wide eyed.

“Whoa.”

“Are you feeling okay?” I ask as I come to squat in front of her.

“Did I time travel?”

“No,” I drawl. “Why?”

“We just got back here so fast, man.” She shakes her head as she moves to stand.

I stand, stepping back, and hold out a hand for her. Katie places her hand in mine. She stands and kind of throws herself to the side and onto the bed.

Katie giggles. “Ravish me…Javier.”

I burst out laughing, remembering that the hero in the book she had been reading was Javier.

“How about we get you to bed instead?”

“Fine, you party pooper you,” she gripes as she rolls onto her side and curls into a ball.

It takes me several minutes of keeping her awake to get her changed into sleep clothes, but when I finally do, she huffs at me that if I’m not going to fuck her, then I need to let her sleep.

It takes just a few minutes before Katie’s snores sound throughout the cabin, and I laugh.

Pressing a kiss to her forehead, I whisper that I’ll be right back. After setting the wheelchair out in the hallway, I call our steward and inform him that he can take it.

Then I take a quick shower before changing.

When I finally climb into bed with Katie, she moves toward me as if, even in her sleep, she needs me. It makes my chest puff out.

I want to be the one she needs.

Then she grumbles something in her sleep.

“Stupid spiders. Always getting in my way. I’m going to burn them all. Burn this entire forest down if I have to. Then no more spiders.”

I’m shaking with laughter, trying not to wake her.

One thing is for sure, life with Katie would always be interesting.

KATIE

Sleeping should have come easily with the shot they gave me, but after an hour of lying in bed, I find myself waking up.

Not for long. Only long enough to be aware that I’m in my room with Dominic wrapped around me, but enough to fuck with my head.

The first time, I felt so disoriented that I started struggling in Dominic’s hold. The only reason I finally calm is because he whispers soft words into my ear, lulling me back to a secure place.

The next time, I could have sworn I heard someone breaking into our room. This time, I jump out of bed and start smacking Dominic, only he isn’t in bed. He isn’t anywhere in the room.

I try to search for him, but he’s nowhere to be found. I consider going to the door, but I’m afraid.

Instead, I curl up into a ball under the blanket and hope whoever is trying to get me can’t see me under here.

I must drift off again because the next time I come to, it’s dark in the room and someone is in bed next to me.

“Ah. Get away from me, you murder rapist.” I attempt to karate chop the stranger.

All that does is make the man groan.

“Katie, it’s me. Dominic. Please stop hitting me. I swear I love your hands on me, but not when they are causing me physical pain.”

His voice should calm me, but instead, it surprises me. Don’t I hate Dominic? I jerk my knee, which must hit him somewhere unpleasant because his voice squeaks, and then I feel him move.

Then the past few days filter back to me.

I don’t hate Dominic. I like him. I might even love him. No, not love. I like him. He’s cute. He makes me feel good. He’s funny. Yeah. I like him.

“Did you say you loved me?” I ask, unsure if I heard his statement right.

Or did he say he loved when I touched him? I don’t remember.

His tone is laced with pain as he pulls me closer to him. “Do you want me to love you?”

“I don’t know. Is that what you said, or did you say something about love? My mind is foggy. I feel like I can’t grasp my thoughts.”

“I gathered that when you thought I was a murder rapist. Maybe we should have this conversation tomorrow when you feel better.” Dominic guides my head so it’s lying on his chest.

“What happened to me? It was the drugs, wasn’t it? I told you not to give me drugs,” I mumble.

“Go back to sleep, baby doll. You’ll feel better tomorrow. Your hives are already gone.” His hand is running through my hair, making me sleepy.

“How would you know?” I ask.

“I’ve been keeping an eye on them. I even reapplied the ointment while you slept. Don’t worry. I’m taking really good care of you. Your health and safety is my utmost important priority.”

My mind is trying to process his words. “You mean that, don’t you?”

“Of course I do. I’d never let anything bad happen to you. You mean more to me than you realize.” I feel his lips against my hair.

Turning, I pout my lips out, asking for a kiss.

“Kiss me, Dom,” I demand in the dark.

He laughs, feeling for my face before pressing his lips to mine.

When he goes to move away, I shake my head, pressing harder.

He lets me for a few moments, moving his lips against mine. When I slip my tongue into his mouth, he tries to stop me, but I growl.

He tears away from me, his breathing labored. “We can’t. Not while you are like this. Tomorrow, I will do whatever you want. Eat your pussy until I can’t breathe. Fuck you until you see stars. Anything in the entire world. Tomorrow though. When you are sober and not under the influence of drugs.”

I groan. “Why do you have to be so logical? It’s hot as hell and only makes me want to tear off your clothes even more because you are being so respectful and caring. Go back to being the arrogant asshole. I didn’t want to fuck him as much.”

“But you wanted to fuck him?” His teasing tone only makes me want to smack him.

“Hush. You know you were fuckable even when you were a complete dickwad. Don’t make me say it.”

“All right. I won’t.” After a moment of silence, he whispers. “Katie?”

“Hmm,” I mumble, feeling sleep attempting to claim me again.

I want to hear what he has to say though. So I try my best to stay awake.

When his whispered words finally come, I’m not sure if he actually said them or if I made them up. I’ve been wanting to hear them for a couple days now, so maybe it’s all in my head.

Still, I cling to those words.

“I always wanted you, and I always will.”
