Chapter 27

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

TRAVIS “RED” CONNOR

I chuckled as I watched from my perch the safety attempts from Mr. Steven Smith’s security team.

They were thorough. I changed my location twice before I settled on this one.

This would be my final job in New York before I made my getaway.

Falling for Erica and then being shunned by her was unexpected.

The blood in my veins grew hot as I thought back to that night a few days ago.

She played me for a fool, letting me believe she would choose me instead of that idiot Wright.

There was no way I would let him have her.

That stab to her side was meant for her to die slowly and painfully and give her time to think about how wrong her decision to love Wright was.

Then eventually, be stricken by the fear of dying.

“She should’ve chosen me, then she would be alive.”

I took Wright for granted, not thinking he would reach out to Smith and find information on me.

I’d taken precautions to be alerted when someone searched my name.

All roads led back to Steven Smith. I’d hit pay dirt when I got the call from Collins, wanting revenge for his father being in jail.

And since he was putting his nose in where it didn’t belong, I was only too happy to accept the contract.

Two million dollars was a lot of money for one man, but this kill would be oh so worth it.

I placed my rifle beside me, getting comfortable, waiting for the right moment.

I had a good three hours before the sun came up.

If I couldn’t get Smith by then, I had time.

Connecting my scope to my rifle, I scanned the area.

The woman I glimpsed earlier had to be the head of security I heard so much about from Tyler Collins.

She was pretty and looked to be a handful, just like Erica.

It was a shame I’d probably have to kill her, too.

She was a means to an end. The end stopping with Steven Smith being dead and me being two million dollars richer.

I hunkered down, scope ready, waiting for my target.
