She'd found out my father was out and that I knew. I'd never seen her so mad at me in my life.
Grandma walked over to him, her voice calm as always. "Honey, what's the matter?"
Wiley glanced around, then said, "I need to speak with you and Wyatt in the back. Now!" Without waiting for a response, he started heading toward the back room.
Grandma and I exchanged a quick look before following him. As we walked, she asked, "Is everything okay?"
Wiley didn't answer right away. Instead, when we got to the back, he started pacing, muttering under his breath. I watched him for a second before speaking up. "Wiley, calm down and tell us what's the matter."
He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "So, I'm out shoppin' for the soil for your grandma, right?" he began, glancing at me.
I nodded. "Yeah, and?"
"As I'm shoppin', I'm not payin' attention," Wiley continued. "Y'all know how I get when I shop. But the point is, I turn a corner and bump into someone, right?"
Grandma's patience was wearing thin. "Wiley, get on with it, will ya?"
He stopped pacing, looking straight at us now. "I looked up after bumpin' into the person, and guess who it was I saw? It was goddamn Beau Buckley in the flesh."
The moment he said those words, my heart dropped to my stomach. I hadn't told Grandma or Wiley that Beau was out of prison. I'd hoped he'd have listened to me and left Texas, but now, it was clear he hadn't.
Grandma gasped, clutching her chest like she couldn't breathe. "H-how could he be out right now? They only gave him seventeen years for takin' my sweet daughter's life!" she whispered, her voice trembling.
She stumbled back, and Wiley and I rushed to catch her. "Let's sit you down, Grandma," I said, guiding her to a chair.
Once she was settled, Wiley shook his head, still in disbelief. "I couldn't believe my own eyes when I saw that motherfucker walkin' freely."
Grandma shook her head, tears forming in her eyes. "I can't believe he's out. How can he be out?"
I stood there, frozen, not knowing what to say or do. Grandma's gaze lifted to me, and she asked, "How are you so calm when we just received this news, Wyatt? I'd expect you to be losin' your shit!"
I stared at the ground, unable to meet her eyes. I didn't want to admit I already knew. That was when Wiley stepped closer, squinting at me. "Wait a minute." His eyes narrowed. "Well, I'll be damned. You already knew, didn't you?"
Caught, I finally looked up. "I knew," I admitted softly. "I saw him at the hospital talkin' to Milia months ago."
Grandma's face twisted with shock and anger as she stood up. "Buckie, and you didn't bother to tell me?"
"I didn't want you to worry," I said quickly. "I thought he'd leave like I told him to."
She shook her head, her voice filled with disappointment. "I can't believe you didn't tell me this."
"Grandma, I'm sorry," I pleaded. "Please don't be upset."
"I can't even look at you right now," she said, turning away from me, making my heart ache.
As she started to walk off, Wiley gave me one last look, shaking his head before following her out. I stood there alone, the weight of my secret came crashing down on me.
"No, Buckie, you kept somethin' from me that shouldn't have been kept! You knew he was out for almost a damn year, and you didn't mention it to me, not once!" Grandma shouted, her voice quivering with anger and hurt. Her words hit me like a punch to the gut.
"Grandma, please stop bein' mad at me. I never meant to keep it away from you. I just know how you get when you're worried," I tried to explain, my voice soft and pleading.
She slammed her hand on the table, making me jump. "Boy, you need to leave this shop right now before I say somethin' that'll hurt your feelin's! I love you to death, but Wyatt, I am so mad at you right now, I don't even want to look at you!"
I sighed, feeling the weight of her disappointment heavy on my chest. "Grandma, I'm sorry," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
She shook her head, her eyes still full of anger. "Go home, Wyatt. I'll call you tonight."
With that, she turned away, leaving me standing there, feeling more defeated than I'd ever felt.
I knew I'd messed up, but I just didn't know how to make it right.
My grandma has never gotten so upset with me that she stopped speaking to me as a whole.
I hate this. I hated not speaking to my sweet grandma.
I shook my head, trying to shake off the feeling as I walked out of the shop. The fresh air hit me as I stepped outside, but it didn't do much to lift the heaviness in my heart. I trudged over to my truck, feeling like I was carrying the world on my shoulders.
As I reached for the door handle, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw a text from Milia.
A small smile tugged at the corners of my mouth, the first one all day.
Milia always had a way of cheering me up, and right now, she was the only thing that could.
I climbed into the truck, feeling a little lighter, knowing I'd have something good to look forward to, even if just for a little while.

"Wait, so she found out about your father and she's been giving you the cold shoulder ever since?" Milia asked as we strolled through the gardens, her hand locked in mine. The evening air was cool, the sun setting just beyond the trees, giving the flowers a warm glow.
I nodded, my shoulders sagging in defeat.
"Yeah, she hasn't spoken to me in days," I admitted, shaking my head.
"Milia, I just don't know what to do. I mean, my grandma's old; she could croak any day now, and here she is not speakin' to me over something I didn't tell her before 'cause I didn't want her to worry. "
I could feel the stress creeping in, the weight of her silence crushing me more each day.
Milia squeezed my hand, her voice soft but firm.
"Wyatt, listen. You might've lost a mother, but she lost her daughter.
Her baby girl. The little girl she gave life to and watched grow up.
She outlived her daughter, all because the man who was supposed to love and protect her instead took her life.
He went to jail for it, but now he's free.
And you, as her grandson, should've told her. No matter what."
Her words cut deep, sinking into me. I sighed, realizing she was right. "I just can't deal with my grandma hating me right now. I mean, she's all the family I got left, honestly. Once she's gone, I'll be alone."
Milia stopped walking and turned to face me, taking both my hands in hers. "Hey," she said, her voice gentle. "You have me. I'm still gonna be here."
I looked at her, a small smile creeping onto my face despite the heaviness in my heart.
She then placed a hand on my cheek, her touch warm and reassuring.
"Also, your grandma doesn't hate you, so don't say that.
She's just upset with you right now, rightfully so.
But give her time to process. She'll come around soon.
I mean, she has to. You're all she's got too, aside from Wiley. "
Her words settled my nerves, and I felt the tension easing out of my shoulders. "Thank you for saying that," I murmured, genuinely grateful for her.
Milia smiled, rising on her tiptoes to kiss me softly. I stared at her afterward, taking in her new hairβblack with blonde streaks, layered curls framming her face just right. She was wearing the hat I got her for Christmas, the one that matched mine.
"Is there anything I can do to help with your stress?" she asked, her eyes filled with concern.
I grinned, my mood lifting a little more. "I mean..." I trailed off, the playful tone in my voice clear.
Milia glanced around, her eyes landing on the empty barn nearby. A smirk tugged at her lips as she bit her bottom lip. "Come on, cowboy," she whispered, her voice low and teasing. "I'm about to suck you dry."
She grabbed my hand, pulling me toward the barn with a mischievous gleam in her eye. As soon as we got inside, she pushed me up against the wall, her lips crashing into mine in a heated kiss.
I pulled her closer into me, holding her waist as she ripped my jean jacket off, letting it hit the floor.
Milia pulled back, looking at me with a huge grin on her face. "I'll make you feel better," she whispered before she pecked my lips one last time, falling to her knees.
She unzipped my pants, pulling them down as they hit the floor along with my boxers. I looked down at Milia, her eyes full of lust as she took all of me inside of her mouth.
Always a pretty sight.
She pushed her head closer, forcing me into the back of throat. "Shit baby." I groaned, trying to run my hands through her hair, but she smashed my hand away.
She removed her lips from my dick, looking up at me with an angry look. "Do not touch my fucking hair or I will stop. Do you understand?" Milia asked, making me laugh at her dominance.
"Yes ma'am." I replied, throwing my hands up in surrender. I placed my hands on both of my sides as Milia took me back into her mouth, immediately picking up her speed with no warning.
"Oh fuck, Milia." I whispered, throwing my head back as she moved her head around in ways she'd never done before.
Has she been practicing?
I felt her hands move to my balls before he took them in her hand, rubbing them. "What the fuck, Milia?" I moaned loudly, never feeling a feeling as good as that one.
"You like that?" She whispered, her voice low and teasing.
I nodded, "Y-yes."
Milia then lifted my dick before placing my balls into her mouth and as she sucked on them, and I could feel my legs ready to give out on me any second.
What was she doing to me?
Why did it feel so fucking good?
The drenched my dick in her saliva before she slid me out of her mouth, looking back up at me.
She began stroking my dick with both of her hands at a fast pace, and I could feel my eyes rolling to the back of my head.
She was trying to take my fucking soul away from my body.
"M-milia!" I stammered, feeling my knees starting to betray me. "You can't handle it, cowboy?" Milia asked, giggling at the sight of me struggling to handle her.
"F-fuck you Milia." I growled, and she picked her speed up even more. I felt my cum shooting out, as I groaned against the wall, feeling my whole body shaking.
Milia giggled before she pulled my boxers and pants back up. She then stood up, staring at me with a mischievous smile. I stared back at her breathlessly, watching her smile grow as she bit her lip.
"You're welcome." She winked at me before exiting the barn as if nothing had happened.
I couldn't help but laugh at her. Milia had shown me so many surprises this past year, and honestly? I loved everything single one of them.
