29. Dustin
Chapter 29
Dustin
“This is what you needed my help with?” I say.
“Yes! I need to find out who H is. It’s killing me and she won’t tell me!” Violet says.
“Who is H?”
“That’s what I’m trying to figure out!”
“Let's go across the street and ask her.”
“You don’t think I already tried that?”
“Well, I don’t know.”
“It didn’t work, but we can try again, let's go.”
“You’re a hoot!” Darcy says while looking in my direction.
“Don’t say that to him; it will go to his head and make his ego bigger than it already is.” Violet scoffs.
“Oh dear, he is, don’t deny what we both already know.”
“Yes dear. I am a hoot,” I say to Violet. She just grumbles something under her breath.
“So, we came to find out who H is. Can you tell us?” Violet asks with pleading eyes.
“He’s just a friend, no one special.”
“You are such a liar! I thought we made a deal once I told you about Dustin, you would tell me about your secret love.”
“I said maybe, not yes.”
“Oh, come on please tell us. I’m dying to know.”
“If you want, I’ll tell you a story about when I was younger.”
“Please tell us,” Violet says.
“When I was freshly graduated and twenty, I was so fed up with this small town that I left. I thought that I needed to travel the world to experience life. I hitchhiked to Woodstock all by myself, I met a few friends along the way. The experience was out of this world. It was so peaceful, full of music, friends, and love. The weather wasn’t ideal though. Now remember, this was in the seventies when everyone had long hair, fringe everything, tie-dye. You should have seen me—I was a picture of nostalgia. I never saw so many people in one place in my life. I met H there. And that’s all you’re getting!”
“Oh come on! Who is he?” Violet begs, desperation in her tone.
“Look what time it is.” She taps a non-existent watch on her arm. “It’s time for dinner. I’ll have to tell you next time.” She averts her gaze to the nurse strolling in the door with a dinner tray.
“I told you she wouldn’t give it up.” Violet drops her shoulders. “But at least it was a good day, and she remembered who I was. Also, we did get another clue at least.”
“We tried, but now we will have to go straight to the source.”
“That’s what I was dreading.”
